lexx, my mother lived 3000 miles away. while they never got close she and my daughter did have a relationship which added to both their lives. now my daughter is 6000 miles from most of her family (in england) but she and her father have grown closer since the first baby she had, and my grandson adores his grandfather and though he rarely sees them feels "related" to all his english kin...

just saying, you can have your life and your family when you are a grandparent. it won't be a daily thing but that's okay!

congrats - especially on the reopening of communications with your son!
