another interesting piece Stay safe East Coast knowflakes http://ecocentric.blogs.time.com/2011/08/26/so-youre-about-to-get-hit-by-a-hurricane/?xid=rss-topstories&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+time%2Ftopstorie s+%28TIME%3A+Top+Stories%29&utm_content=Google+Feedfetcher As you decide whether or not you need to evacuate, put together a Go Bag for each member of your household—a pre-prepared packet you can grab and go at a moment's notice. It should include copies of all important documents—passports and proof of address—preferably in a waterproof container. Keep extra sets of your keys, $50 to $100 in cash and your credit cards, a flashlight, a first aid kit and bottled water. And this is especially important—make sure you have any medication you need, enough to last several days if you can't make it back to a pharmacy, along with detailed information about your dosages and your doctor's contact information. Think of it this way—if something happens to you, your Go Bag should be able to speak for you.
Make sure you have emergency supplies on hand—enough imperishable food and water to last for a few days, should things get bad. How much? The government suggests that you have at least 1 gallon daily per person, for three to seven days. That doesn't necessarily mean you have to go out and buy that much bottled water. If you're like me, you have far too many half empty plastic bottles strewn around your house. Fill them up from the tap before the storm hits.

One of the downsides of working in healthcare: your Employers are pretty much allowed to put you under house arrest during these times. Will be destroying my vertebrae via a crappy hospital bed tonight while everyone's boarded up at home with margaritas. IP: Logged |

bunch of power surges, but so far no serious damage------------------ I once saw a sign that said "sin is death" but if "all deaths are suicide (linda goodman)" and suicide is sin, then shouldnt "death is sin" be more appropriate? when organic is used to describe food then you know we have come to a dark age in history IP: Logged |

My brother lives in the Lower East Side. He's being safe and heading out to upstate Pennsylvania tonight with his 4 year old daughter. Now that he's a dad he has to be all responsible and stuff. His Facebook updates made me chuckle: "Good bye New York City it was fun while it lasted. Bloomy announced the first mandatory evacuation in history for all residents in zone A, I'm in zone B. Mass transit will be shut down tomorrow... Peace!" "I have a 4yo to protect. I'm not worried about the hurricane, I'm worried about the millions of dipshits that will freak if power goes out, floods happen, MTA goes down and whatever else might happen. I'm going into the woods! Lol" "Tomorrow won't be bad at all, Sunday will. If I didn't have a kid I would be in Times Square with a life jacket and sparklers. Good luck ladies." IP: Logged |

So glad to see the storm downgraded and much less damage than predicted. Any personal updates or takes on the storm vs the media`s scare tactics and overstatements? ------------------ Submit to Love without thinking, as the sun rose this morning recklessly, extinguishing our star-candled minds. Yeah I'm glad too juni. I've heard of a death or two in my city because people were driving around and got into accidents etc. Nothing big happened at my place though, thankfully. I had to go out a few times with my dog because the strong wind scared her so much she wouldn't go out alone lol. All I got was soaked, alls good. ------------------ "Just like moons and like suns, With the certainty of tides, Just like hopes springing high, Still I'll rise." — Maya Angelou IP: Logged |
