Was reading AARP's rules for over 50 and I am breaking most of their old folk's rules of how to dress, act, live, love, who to love.......gods! What is it with the act your age bullshite??????????????
Ewwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I gross out young and old because I do things that make me not a proper over 50 year old......
WELL I DO NOT CARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am just being myself not some fraking stereotype of what others expect!
I love, live, laugh, dress, do as I desire and age has nothing to do with it!
Age is a state of mind
So change your mind;
especially as to what you think over 50 year old folks should be like!
I will be 57 on November 3rd.,
and I am not done learning, living, loving, and it is not denial of being older......
but since when does one have to embrace becoming the stereotypical idea of what folks think an over 50 year old person should be like?
I so wanted to puke reading the rules for over age 50, the do and do not do things.
OK
rant over for now.

edit: you know, this question crosses my mind a lot...how does any particular age act???

I once saw a sign that said "sin is death" but if "all deaths are suicide (linda goodman)" and suicide is sin, then shouldnt "death is sin" be more appropriate?

when organic is used to describe food then you know we have come to a dark age in history

No you do not look like a granny!
I will be 57 in November.
I have a 30 year old son and he has a 7 month old son.
So yeah, technically that makes me a granny.
However, that does not make me old!
Geeez, an 18 year old could give birth and their child at 18 do so, and there you have it, a 36 year old granny! Not old at all!
Sadly some "grannies" are as young as like 32 or so, and great grannies as young as 46.
My long time boyfriend is younger than my son.
Two of my exes, each 15 years younger than me.
A fellow my age tried to pursue me this year and frankly totally p!ssed me off when he said;
"Act your age, you are a grandma now!
Take me not some kid younger than your son.
There must be something wrong with him to want an old lady like you. So be with me because I am your age and can understand you".
I was like,
"Frake off you stupid old coot!".
Men my age often have very twisted ideas how to impress me.
Give me a young intelligent and compassionate man over a dried up old git my age who talks about sex but its usually all talk. And rarely can carry on an intelligent conversation or desires to keep learning and growing.
And geeez......what is it with such over 50s, both men and women, cutting down younger people, talking like they are all wise and superior to younger folks?
Age is not automatically the key to wisdom nor maturity.
So many men my age are in arrested emotional/social development of like age 12.
And often the women are mousey old doormats
married to these old before their time fellows.
Oh for sure, not all over age 50 folks are such stick in the muds waiting to die;
but a lot are.

You and your husband are some of the few "young minded" folks over 50!
Keep on being so!
Yes, even though I am disabled I too often do things on my own. However any adjustments are due to having become disabled at age 33,
NOT because I am soon to be age 57!

Society gives conflicting ideas of what each age should act like.
The young are supposed to look young but act all mature.
The older are supposed to "act their age" but look young......and botox and surgery their way to such.
Gods I hate such utter insanity.
Just be yourselves! Frake the age issue!

I will get some newer pictures soon!
This is from last October, but I still am the same......except I look happier nowadays usually!
{Still want to lose another 100 pounds though.
Working on it! Lost some 140 pounds already.
However, the weight issues are disability not age related!}

Not sure why they picked age 50.
Often it is geared towards rich folks who can retire young.
I do not see it being of much of any use to poor folks.
Some prescription drug plans and dental/vision insurance offers might be OK.

My hair some 5 years ago when I weighed 100 pounds more.
It is about a foot shorter now.

My mum is turning 60 this year, my Dad is already over 60; their friends are about their own age, with one befriended couple being over 80. The 80plus couple just bought a caravan and are travelling all over Europe all the time.

my parents are like they always were; I cannot really see a difference to when they were in their 40`s (except for some more ailments, but they rarely complain).

I don`t know maybe they do act their age, maybe not. I am totally uncertain how they SHOULD act to act their age.

They are still going out, still (maybe even more so) discuss and argue about political and philosophical things, still will start to suddenly dance with each other in the livingroom when a nice song is being played in the radio.

So I really don`t know. Who makes these rules?

And Lexx that older fellow that was pursuing you sounded really stupid. Did he really think he would impress you with saying something likek this?
Insults and educational advice is very rarely the way to win a personīs heart I think.

My great grandparents and grandparents, and my parents were cool like that.
My friend when she was 69 to 74 years old had a young lover age 19 to 24. That ended only because he was killed in a motorcycle accident. A year before she passed away, at age 84, she was taken on a wild trip by plane with a group of gay young men to Florida and had her ocean experience and the clubs and more! She was a super cool lady!
And all that in spite of being wheelchair bound for 70 years since age 14 from Polio!
I hung around with some very cool old folks when I was a kid and teen. One fellow age 102 was so much fun and it was very hard to accept he was 102. His attitude was to me in many ways so 20 something!

Yes, despite body woes, many older folks do indeed just be themselves! Your parents sound cool!
Society makes the rules. Stick in the muds make the rules.
They look in their mirrors and accept that the older person in that mirror is who they are. Society also labels them as old. However that is not who they have to be inside. Aside from ailments/disabilities,(which can happen even to the young)
why should one feel different just because the body looks older?

Well he was a boyfriend from 43 years ago. We reconnected and it was interesting catching up.......but oh my god what an old coot he had become! I was quite shocked! Only two years older than me and looks very mangy old old and actually tries to look older because he is a great grandfather and that's what such should be like in his opinion.
I talked about things I like and he said;
"that stuff is for kids, not a grandma".
I was like huh? Since when does music have an age restriction, or body piercings, or fun clothing/accessories?
And insulting me because I have had two husbands 15 years younger and now seriously involved with a man 1/2 my age;
by saying crap like;
"See! The two younger ones did not work did they? The one 1/2 your age won't either. It's time for you to act your age and be with me instead of trying to recapture your youth!"
I was like huh?
I never let my youth be lost!
Geeez!
He even made remarks like;
"you are a grandma, you can't expect to keep up with a young lover sexually".
Arrggghh!
What a jerk!
I was like bet me and lose you old fart!
Just because your libido is dead does not mean mine is! If anything its more ravenous than when I was younger!
Its some younger people too;
like my son,
who thinks I should "grow up" and be like a "real" a granny too.
Like wtf does that mean?
Seems he thinks I am too old for romance and LOL, sex.
And wearing ripped jeans and t-shirts as I do, is not right for one my age.
I think lots of folks do get weirded out at the thought of their parents still being sexually active.
Oh the guy from 43 years ago, also said he was a better choice for me than a younger man because we are both disabled and take some of the same meds so he would understand me better.
What kind of basis for a relationship is that?
He also asked me how could I and my younger boyfriend possibly have anything in common or be able to have deep conversations.
I totally lost it!
The conversations with my bf are most often the best I have had in my life to date!
I see absolutely no problem there!
A 20 something can indeed be more intelligent and wise than a 50 something! Especially a 50 something who has stopped bothering to learn or experience new things.

OK.....
rant over for now!
