Eh.. personally it doesn't matter either way. The 25th is my brother's birthday and we celebrate that.

I usually wish them the same back and smile and continue on. No need to get offended at someone being nice, even if they wished you something stemming from their own religion or in their own words. It's the thought behind it that counts. Hope that made sense. I'm really tired right now. lol

It's this narrow-mindedness that gives religious people a bad name. I applaud Regardes for chiming in to say that as a Christian herself she is not like that. People who know what Xmas* is about don't become hateful for a stooooopid reason. *Juni, I love you but "Xmas" is not a compound noun. Only "Christ-" is abbreviated so "-mas" remains as is; it doesn't mean a thing in its own. Anongrl10 (in her linguist hat ) IP: Logged |

You might find this interesting, about how fundies "defending Merry Christmas" made so much profit that they pushed it even harder: http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2006/decemberweb-only/151-23.0.html It says they might move to Easter next. Within a year of this article a town that had changed its Easter celebration a few years ago without complaint suddenly had a firestorm of complaints. I seriously doubt it's a coincidence. It's scary how easy people can be whipped up into a fury of political correctness (whatever their favorite flavor of PC it happens to be), and even worse (like think of the Satanic Panics of the 80s, early 90s, which is downright terrifying). I say Merry Christmas, without thinking. If someone wished me a Happy hanukkah, I would not be offended, even though it isn't something that I celebrate. I get it, but I'm tired of it all. And I'm tired of Christmas getting picked on: other holiday decorations are allowed, but no nativity displayed in most places, for the christians? why can't there be something for everyone, and have all of these people who are so religious and moralistic, just, oh, I don't know, live and let live, and BE NICE. I see nativity scenes at churches and some homes. I believe the only places that can't display those are those featured by the government (like city hall) as it's considered a promotion of religion (so either the government has to promote all of them or none of them, and the latter is simpler). And I live in California. IP: Logged |

i had actually discovered today that a coworker of mine says the same thing back whenever he gets wished merry christmas, cuz he doesnt celebrate christmas ------------------ I once saw a sign that said "sin is death" but if "all deaths are suicide (linda goodman)" and suicide is sin, then shouldnt "death is sin" be more appropriate? when organic is used to describe food then you know we have come to a dark age in history IP: Logged |

hey Nicki i've been reading those silly posts all over Facebook since the beginning of the season, the truth is why should i care if someone wishes me happy holidays, merry Christmas, or happy discount season (the most celebrated event in the bunch for shopaholics like myself )personally im not a Christian but i have tons of Christian friends who i great every Christmas (and other holidays of course) one by one and yes i would wish them a Merry Christmas and not just happy holidays, but thats me i dont think any of them would mind if someone just says happy holidays instead.. if you want to live successfully and happily in a culturally diverse country you have to be willing to take it all with a grain of salt, i mean come on its really silly to make such a great deal out of this issue.. when someone wishes me a Merry Christmas im content, i dont correct them and go "ohh but i dont celebrate it thank you very much" I’d be like “thank you same to you..” where I live everyone celebrates every single holiday regardless to what religion it belongs..

I actually hate all the hullabaloo about "christmas", "easter", and the like."Christmas" is just another product to me. Propaganda. Control. Manipulation. I participate wholly for my children, and to see family, as we don't often come together. It's like valentines day - pi$$ing on eachother all year, then saying "I love you" on valentines day - boke. A day is a day. Every day is an opportunity to love, appreciate and respect your family, friends, children, god, gods, whatever. I see no point in days for these things. If you are truly "inside something with your soul" (thank you Rumi), you will live it, breathe it, love it, nurture it, respect it, every single day, if even only by feeling gratitude in private. I'm watching the X-Factor finale, and they are saying Merry Christmas a lot and singing traditional Christmas songs. Not a single Season's Greetings. No winner yet, but I'm cheering for Chris Rene.IP: Logged |

I just realized on the way home, that in amongst the songs they keep playing over and over on the radio, I hadn't once heard Silent Night, The First Noel, We Three Kings, or anything like that. Not once. So I'm looking for them on here, right now. That actually bugged me, that it seemed the songs were being ignored in favour of yet another version of Winter Wonderland, or It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87q5dmW6zDg Happy Christmas/Holidays to you all. I haven't being paying attention to the radio, but stores like Safeway have been piping in songs like "Come Let Us Adore Him."I haven't heard any version of Winter Wonderland, but I suppose such a song would fall flat in Southern California. IP: Logged |
