I am of the opinion it is a double edged sword. It saves time to hit the button but by doing so, the person who wrote it can not edit it, ever, if the thread is closed. I feel it is being over used ie every post being quoted and there is no recourse if one desires to edit it for whatever reason. Sometimes I want to share something and have the option to edit it once the person has acknowledged it. Or just to correct awful spelling, punctuation etc. Just curious if anyone else is getting weary of being quoted with no recourse. ------------------ Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. ~Rumi~

Its OK kind of, but it screws up when one is quoting a person who is quoting. I do not need it as I can do quotes without it. If a person does not want quoted their requests should be honored.IP: Logged |

Thanks for replying lexx This quote is one I know was just a wrong key hit and you being the conscientious person you are, would edit and correct it . But now you can`t. Just a little annoying issue I am having. ------------------ Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. ~Rumi~ IP: Logged |

I edit out the person's name, and try to remember not to quote anything too personal, most of the time, because I know I like to edit things out (as does everyone else know this, by now ). Every so often, I forget to edit out the name - sorry if I've done that to anyone who wanted to edit. IP: Logged |

Delilah The quoting has become more frequent, yes. I prefer not to suggest motive but I see exactly what you are saying. ------------------ Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. ~Rumi~ IP: Logged |

I fixed it. Yes, with the partial blindness in both eyes, even together it is hard to avoid typos. I cannot see easily to hunt and peck. Thank you for pointing out my error so I could fix it.However yes, I hate being quoted in forums where I am not able to fix errors when I am quoted. I imagine others hate that too. IP: Logged |

I quote when I do charts as it is an easy reference to have the info there. Also, if you quote, others know to whom you are referring if more people have posted in between. I like it. People should do what teasel does and tell people not to quote them imo ------------------ Passion, Lust, Desire. Check out my journal http://www.mychristianpsychic.com/

I know I quote a lot but it seems as if I am talking back to that person as if I am directing them, in a polite way, such as you would look in someone's eyes when you talk.I see it as a form of respect for what the person said, to address it directly. I know that you, teasel, Lexx and T don't like it, so I will try to remember that ------------------ Passion, Lust, Desire. Check out my journal http://www.mychristianpsychic.com/

Thanks for trying Ami.And funny, maybe because I was always used to how the Quote function worked for seven or so years (where one manually typed it in if they wanted to quote), I always felt it was more polite to address a response to someone using their name, as you would when you write someone a letter, or email. And frame the response that way. But I guess you are used to things this way and I see how it makes sense to you to do it that way. If you ever want to respond to me, you can do so by starting with my username and a comma. I think you know how to quote specific sentences too. It's really simple. So if there is something you wanted to specifically address, you could quote that portion of it and not the entire post. IP: Logged |

I'll admit I don't like seeing entire post, pictures included, repeated over and over again in a thread. Especially when all that comes after it is a smiley face or thumbsup. One could just write the person's name, a comma and then the smilie. It saves from people having to scroll down through repeats of entire posts, pictures and all. Know what I'm saying? IP: Logged |

Addressing them, simply with their name first and then going on to respond to their post, would be just as polite as quoting the entire post first. It seems more personable that way to me anyway. Actually moreso than quoting them imo. The name with a comma first seems even more "polite".It would not be confusing to do it that way either, because the person would see their name and a response following it and remember what they said before. They would not have to read their full post to know you were talking to them or what you were talking about if you responded to what they said. IP: Logged |

Also, remember, there is the scrollable box underneath this Reply box that you can always check and even flip pages in. So if you wanted to see something in a particular chart or respnose, while replying, you could simply scroll down to it, while the Reply box is still open.If down the road, someone ever wanted to delete their birthchart, it might be nice if they didnt have it quoted ten times in the thread elsewhere. Which brings me to a question...If someone quotes someone else, who decides they want to delete their post, can they contact a Mod to delete all the repeated posts? And will it be honored and the request granted without question or fuss? IP: Logged |

No it does not. And the answer should be that the quoted post can be deleted upon request. No questions asked.IP: Logged |

I've always tried to respect their wishes, though I do find it a pet peeve when someone posts and then deletes it all, especially as a habit. When I've quoted, if I see they've deleted what I quoted I try to do the same (sometimes deleting my response, especially if it won't make sense anymore).

Whew thanks for the insights! I agree a picture quoted and posted over and over is disruptive, at least to my train of thought. ------------------ Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. ~Rumi~ IP: Logged |
