Indeed dogs use the very same insulin and syringes as humans. I would never have suggested a dog med for hubby . Anyhow, yay!! ------------------ We need to listen to our own song, and share it with others, but not force it on them. Our songs are different. Goodness Lexxi, I did know that some pharma stuff has dual uses, but did not consider insulin more anti biotics and DMSO!What is worse is I have copies of books (one is Do it yourself medicine) less then 4 feet away from atm. Jeffers supply wholesale veterinary supply A couple of places listed, on caution is make sure the dosage is proper as some are meant for 400 pd or larger animals and not joe or mary average. I wish I had noticed that you posted that. I only saw your threads about the dog and NOT humans needing cheap insulin.

I use Jeffers and Fosters and Smith for cat vaccinations. The rabies vaccination is like $10 for 10 cats; so $1 per cat. However the veterinarians here want $80.00 for one cat and $800.00 for 10 cats to have a rabies shot.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Insane price gouging! So I get the cheap stuff and do mine then try and do strays and all with the remaining rabies vaccination vial.IP: Logged |

What a huge load off your mind Lexx! and I am pretty sure for your guy as well.I learn so much on this site. Who knew dogs and humans can share the same insulin>?? and, it is over-the-counter. link below-->
quote: You probably know that there are two types of drugs at the moment: those that require a doctor’s prescription and those that don’t. The latter are assumed to be safe enough for patients to treat themselves without a doctor’s guidance. What the FDA is proposing now is that a third class be created, allowing those drugs that would normally require an Rx to be sold OTC under the condition of “safe use.” That term could mean a pharmacist assessing whether a patient might need or can use a particular medication, and in certain cases the FDA might require a doctor’s visit after a patient obtains a refill or small initial amount of the medication. To those of us in the Diabetes Community, one of the big questions comes down to what this might mean for access to insulin, which is mostly a prescription-required medication despite some older-generation insulin still being offered OTC.

Definitely a BIG BIG BIG load off of us! Yeah who would have known that human insulin could be used on dogs too! juniperb posted about giving it to her dog but that was some time ago and it never connected in my memory that she was using human insulin. The doctors, the hospital, and the diabetes management caseworkers and others in the medical community were clueless too. I wonder if it works on cats too? Thank you for the link also.
