Lexx's recent thread incited me to post this.

Child protective services are overwhelmed to be sure....

But what about the seniors?

Since there was a "cap" placed on the amount a nursing home can be sued for negligence nobody gets anywhere and the legal/healthsystem knows this.

We get so, so, SO many patiets from a particular nursing home, which is horrible, but it is, quite unfortunately representative of nursing homes in general.

Wanna talk about abuse?

Football size bed sores, down to the very bone, which lead to infection, which leads to sepsis, which leads to death...

And they know they cant be sued so they dont care!!!

My golly, we had a patient, Maria. Had a stroke during open heart surgery, was placed in a nursing home, one of the baddest ones...

She was tiny, any of us were able to turn her all by ourselves and there was NO excuse for the terrible bed sores that killed her, NO excuse.

She would be hospitalized time after time, come in dirty, unkempt and uncared for.

It is sick!

We want to call APS when recieve patients as such, but we know there will be no retribution.

Now, call in CPS and here they come...even if the parents were not at fault.

Geezzzzz......

Ugggg!

Something needs to be done, and I dont know what, but all we can do for now is mind our own...care for ours and be-ware....be VERY Aware!

t~

Actually, CPS ignores a lot. I witnessed one case that was absurd, gave no help at all to someone in real trouble, she could've been dead and they didn't act (just sent a deputy out there after like 6 weeks of constant calls who spoke to the father for like one minute and left without even seeing the girl).

hippichick! (I just read this before heading to bed .... gotta go to sleep)

This is from my post in 'insulin' thread
http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum25/HTML/004082.html

quote:
hmmmm..... CYA? should be a punishable crime if someone does that... I hope they make that into a LAW in the future! It could be written similar to the "Good Samaritan Rule"-- If you CYA and don't help the person in crisis, then you are LIABLE for physical harm, mental cruelty, and emotional suffering!!

(doc) THE GOOD SAMARITAN LAW across Europe, (by the Dan Legal Network) (pdf 20pgs Large font!) http://www.daneurope.org/c/document_library/get_file?uuid=c09228f3 -a745-480b-9549-d9fc8bbbd535&groupId=10103

The people who work in those places should be arrested for not reporting or for perpetrating!

Thanks hippichick for bringing this to our awareness once more

Thank you hippichick!

My father was in a rehab center towards the end of his life that sounds like the wretched place you described. He contracted MRSA there, and the nurses were totally nonchalant about it, saying most patients got the same, and there was nothing to stop it. (And they were dumb enough to tell this to the patient's family?)

I wanted to make a poster and tape it to their front door: WARNING~ MRSA is rampant here and nurses do not care!

Faith, so sorry you experienced that!

The nurses didn't CARE... because there was NO CONSEQUENCE to them! They supported and affirmed and validated what was happening in this place of industry, by 1) working for them, and 2) knowingly exposing vulnerable people to DEATHLY bacterium!!!!!

The chutzpah to flagrantly TELL the families involved could be coming out of a kind of self-sabotaging guiltiness-- even outrage and helplessness for them!?

CYA??? In the future, I HOPE future-employees are held in responsibility and liability! A "wage-accepting employee" represents a CONDONING of the wares, services, and conditions they labor in!

They OWN (on some level) the consequences of lives essentially murdered, maimed, or 'killed', by fact that they did NOTHING to stop their "owners" (they are enslaved by those who pay wages)! Employees indirectly CONDONE the conditions that make for the FATAL mistakes!...

I hope reform comes quickly!

{{{hugs}}} and Love for you hippichick... This saying of mine is not AT "you"... I don't mean to point any finger at "you" because you work conscientiously in an area of this kind of field! -- I know that WITH ALL YOUR HEART, you do CARE with your uttermost-being about your patients, about people here at LL, and about finding ways to improve and change things in this industry! You set a FINE example here to your co-workers and peers, BY the fact that you started this thread!! (I feel proud to be associated here with you...)

You ARE bringing more awareness, you ARE pealing back the 'death' in the situation, by revealing the 'impossible-seeming' plight of sensitive care-takers (who need their employment to feed & shelter themselves) YET are also "victim" to the 'shortages' of care, and protections for employees; there need to be monies made available to bring improvement to structures and procedures, and to provide strong oversight-people.

Those USA "obstructionistic politicians" ONLY care about MONEY, and all the "attention" and glamorizing they soak themselves in!! Power-control intoxicated individuals who want to see their faces in Fame and "publicity" --- OBVIOUSLY, NOT "aware" of biological sentient survival of our species, or of all global earthly living forms!!

wooooh!! these astrological transits today are hot-hot juicy!! to me...

My deepest Love and honor to ALL!!--- I am blessed being in your 'aqua'intance-ship!

(Have 'aliens' in my Aquarius 3rd house! )

NOTE for (humorous) Consideration: Is there legislative discussion about 'pathway to citizenship' for these space-immigrants to Earth? Hmmm?
