Going to be a bumper crop year. The mulberry is weeping under so many berries. Seeing lots of fawns now and plenty of twins. Last evening I was weeding a patch of sweet peas and obedient plants and I looked over, about 10 ft away, and saw a painted turtle vigorously digging a hole in the lawn. Startled, it didn`t register at first it was a turtle, I let a squawk out and Phoenix came running to investigate. . Watching, she finished digging her hole , laid her eggs and moseyed off. We have been puzzled over the years by the empty rubbery shells found on the lawn and couldn`t fathom a turtle wandering this far from the lake/swamps to lay her eggs. I saw the proof and am totally amazed. It would be nice if you can catch a few pics of the baby turtles. Oh yes, told you on another thread that you taught me a new word: moseying but the thread was glitching and posts poofed, so I wasn't sure if you saw it. Wondered what animal does this mosey thing. Temperature, humidity, rainfall, and other factors influence incubation. Generally, land turtle incubation ranges from 45-90 days" Now, how darn general is that? I`d have to pitch a tent & hang out there. LOL re mosey. There are signs in June along the lake shoes saying "turtle seasonal crossing" but they find it sport I guess.
