Jeez AG. Watching Good Morning America they gave Ca`s weather report. You good folks are sweltering . We have a high of 72 today and I won`t gripe now!

Yeah, BB might finally be interesting again this season!

I was able to watch a little bit of BB this morning. My favorite right now is Nick, the understated. He gives off the most Capricornian vibe, and Caps do well on that show.

So, one of my headless sunflowers is trying to adapt. It is actually growing, so I'll be curious to see whether it can overcome that obstacle of having the top of the stalk removed.

That one pumpkin that's so big, just keeps getting bigger. I think it's looking to branch out in new directions now. I wonder when the female flowers are going to start showing up. I think two of the front yard pumpkins have nice spaces in which to grow. They look like they're going to fill out some empty spots in the landscaping. I had to release a sunflower from one of the pumpkin's tendrils this morning.

It has been super hot. I see my Bay Area friends complaining about the heat, but they've gotta be cooler than where I am. I think it was 104 last night when I went out to fetch dinner. It was still uncomfortably hot outside last night before going to bed. I think it was in the upper 80's.

Got home from late breakfast, and the pumpkins are wilting. I gave them some more water. Hopefully, they will come through this alright. I'm used to this sort of thing from the runt. This is the first time I've seen it in the big one.

I`m always a little slow to pick a favorite but quick to dislike a player. I think the only time we were at odds on a player was evil dick. I think there`s more behind McCrea ,the pizza boy, than we know right now.

I certainly hope your pumpkin wilt was from water needs.

I purposely put sunflowers in the pumpkin/squash patch for a place to run and climb. It keeps them off the lawn and makes the stalk & garden look more interesting.

What a stellar day to usher out June. 75 degrees , sunny and a wonderful breeze carrying the scent of the lake. No rain lately but the cool nights bring on a heavy dew that the plant life sucks up and thrives on.

My bucket list for summer is looking bleak (ex. Westminister Chimes purchase ) but I feel really good about what I have accomplished. Onward to July and the glories ahead.

The heat continues. My biggest pumpkin is still wilted despite extra water. I hope it survives. The others in the front yard look alright, and the side yard ones look happy and alert.

One of the headless sunflowers did grow a new stalk! I'm so glad to see it adapt like that.

Regarding putting the pumpkins with the sunflowers, can my young sunflowers withstand the pumpkin's clinging? It just seemed too fragile to me for that to be happening.

I agree with you on McCrea. Not sure what's up with him exactly. It was funny that no one believed he was a pizza boy.

I thought the people left hanging at the end were so stupid. I was upset that Nick was amongst them. You don't want to start the show with a target on your back. I thought the third person up might be the HoH, but I like the angle they took. That really is an interesting way of handling it. I wonder if America will be smart enough to pick up on who's being the best player. I would have been Judd probably. I would have jumped down quickly and voluntarily.

I think my big pumpkin plant may be recovering today. I'm starting to see its limbs stand up. They look like a series of snakes as the bottom parts of the leaf and flower stalks stand up while their extremities still sag over. I wish I could open every leaf manually, and that they'd stay, but they won't. Hopefully, they'll start to open up on their own now that the life seems to be coursing through again.

There's a wild parakeet here that visits our backyard feeder:

One of my pumpkin or squash plants recovered after I moved it. It was all standing to attention earlier on. I need to be up during the day! All day. I also need to spray something on my plants: something keeps eating them. *We're* supposed to be doing that.

I'm so disappointed. I had high hopes for the garden this year, and I haven't been able to do what I wanted to do. I shouldn't have spent the money on flowers, either. what a waste. Dad said they're trying to raise the homeowner's insurance on him by $350 a month!! we're barely eating as it is! I give up. I just - ugh. I'll keep that to another thread.

My cilantro, broccoli, and cauliflower all bolted last week. Peppers aren't doing as well as I thought, and one cucumber plant didn't survive the transplant. Others have blooms on them, so I hope they start to produce soon. I finally planted some winter squash, but i don't know if it's going to do anything in time.

Nick, hopefully, will not let his youth and impetuosity get the best of him. I find all the females annoying so far and that disappoints me.. Judd took the right move and removed any target early on. I also think he is not the goof he`s portraying. I`m gonna watch him.

Good to hear your pumpkin is recovering. Bacterial Wilt of vine crops is nasty and contageous disease. Here we have a super problem with Cucurbit wilt.

A parakeet in ones` feeder. I would go put my glass`s on if I saw such Neat ,but how does it winter there?

I`m sorry teasel .

I`m an unintentional murderess.

Two of my sun flower volunteer transplants collapsed and gasped their last breath.

I thought they would look dramatic tucked behind my Heliopsis (false sunflower) and promply forgot they were back there and....

I watered then anyhow as last rites and will pluck them out this a.m. .

I feel awful.

Actually, the little sprites perked up. Amazing.
I ment to say earlier in my BB post I think McCrea made a mistake not putting David & Elissa up.. He is a physical threat and the thought of listening to him for weeks would be soooo annoying. Elissa is too much of a reminder of Rachel.

Hopefully, America will choose Nick for MVP and he will put him up and he will leave. That also would take some blood from McCrea`s nom. McCrea wins POV and they are home free..

July brings us the need for rain. I had to drag my hoses all over last evening to cool roots down. We`ve had a steady breeze, almost windy and high 70`s.

I only have a 4 in. well and a deep water table so I can`t run water for hours and hours to keep all supplied and happy. I fill my barrels with lake water and meter it out. With no rain predicted, I may have to start hauling.

In addition, I planted some more Squaw Grass (Plume Grass)I dug up at an old farm. I love the 12-18 ft soar of her plumes and the screening effect it gives (depends on conditions). My old piece really looks regal behind the pond.
I have a passion for ornamental grass`s and use them in every variety as compliment pieces and as focal points. The plumes make great decorative additions to Autumn boquets.

Well, BB got there w/out my plan but Elissa & David are it.

Just watched last night's. Nick still seems solid. I think his proposition to McCrea was right on. Initially, I was surprised that McCrea used the power of veto, but then he really did navigate the first HoH pretty well. People were pleased with Alissa's going up, and the Moving Company can still pick off their target. Overall, McCrea did a pretty good job of keeping his popularity in tact.

His winning of the POV was surprising, too. So much for throwing it. Potroasts was hilarious, because I suspected it might be considered two words. Alissa doesn't seem as annoying as Rachel, but both of their voices are super annoying.

Surfer dude seems so dumb it's hard to imagine that we're members of the same species.

I still don't know what's up with my big semi-wilted pumpkin plant. I thought maybe I had over-watered or something. It's still as green as can be. It's interesting how it's most recently grown extremities seem to have thicker, lighter-green-colored stalks.

Some of my sunflowers and watermelons are also being weirdly droopy. They look like they'll live, but I don't know what's going on. I'm glad that I have multiples of everything, so if some don't make it, others will or should.

I have blossoms all over my plants, but only tomatoes growing, and one pepper plant. Something continues to eat my kale, but the lettuce is okay - I'm just wondering how to grow those big bunches that you find in the store. mine are small.

I need to figure out what to do with my strawberry plant. It grew a grand total of three strawberries this year.

July 5th already. From here, the summer counts down quickly for me.
July is our (typically) warmest month. All grows in leaps and bounds for fall harvest.
August is always warm but the nights are chilling and and things seem to take a rest before harvest.

Pumpkins & all vines running amok in the sunflowers. I have to watch the cukes for wilt. But all seems to be thriving and healthy.

Roses are on, mid summer buds ready to pop. I have the newer cone flower (Echinacea purpurea, pink double delight) I`m anxious to see it. I have it between my climbing yellow roses and Chicago Peace Rose.

Sigh, I`m a happy camper.

Hey, I know I`m in here jabbering to myself but I consider self good company

My squash are set, onions super looking, tomatos fruited ,broccoli & cabbage heads on. All in all , for the late start, it is doing wonderful. Lettus and kale have made yummy salads.

My sunflowers jumped up in the heat. Most are about 2 ft or taller now. They are setting buds early so it will be a fine show.

Fruit trees are loaded and I am concerned about the heavy laden branchs of the old plum tree. I seriously don`t want to select pick that tree to lighten the load.... picking green fruit that is stubborn is a pain in the rump. Maybe at midnight when it cools down.

I collected a big cucumber this morning. I ate the previous one last night (it was really good), so it's good timing.

My big pumpkin continues to confound. I just have to take a wait-and-see approach. It's still green, but it doesn't seem to be doing great. The nearby watermelons and sunflowers share it's odd wilt. They're also green and wilty.

My eucalyptus is coming back. I see sprouts of new growth all over the tree. I think the pot was drying out too much. It's responding well to getting watered a little every day. The dwarf orange isn't showing me anything. I think it needed water, too, but it's not growing anything.

My side yard stuff is doing well overall. All four of the pumpkin plants look healthy. One of them looks very very good! It has huge leaves. Two watermelon plants are growing. I wonder if they were planted too late, though I'm sure it will be hot here well into fall. The flowers look good overall. It's strange the variation in how they grow. Two that came up at the same time, one looks like it's struggling, while the one that sprouted slightly later is doing fantastic. I don't know what the difference in their conditions could be.

Just keep an eye on them .. Find out what wilt disease is prevalent in your area and treat accordingly.

My pumpkin, and squash plants seem to be doing well - and I finally have cucumbers trying to grow. One squash-type plant isn't doing so well, but it's in a less sunny area - the raised bed should have been moved.

I still need to make up a spray to put on the plants that are getting eaten - there are slugs all over them at times (I saw them the other morning). Do peppers grow better in the shade? I've noticed that mine are growing, even though they're getting covered by tomato and pumpkin leaves.

My dwarf orange sprouted some new leaves! I haven't lost it. I'm so glad. I don't know how long it will take to repopulate itself. Nor do I know how much water is best. It didn't react as quickly as the eucalyptus.

Two of my front yard pumpkins don't seem to be in great shape. Same as before I guess...along with those watermelon and sunflowers. This sounds like it:

A second disease is Bacterial Wilt. This disease is evident by a wilting and browning of the leaves. Sometimes the leaves will firm up at the end of the day, only to repeat itself the next morning, and get worse each time. This can sometimes be confused, with wilting due to lack of water or high temperatures. Wilting from lack of water results from either a literal lack of water in the soil or the vine ends not getting enough water as the fruit is sucking up all the nutrients. The acid test for bacterial wilt is to take one leaf and cut it an inch or so from the vine. If the sap that drains out is yellow and stringy, you have confirmed the presence of Bacterial Wilt disease.

There is no known cure ,and the plant will certainly die. The best course of action, is to remove the diseased plant. http://www.pumpkinnook.com/howto/disease.htm

I guess I should do the test, and find out whether it's got that. The leaves at the end of the big one's vine look perky. The runt of the front yard wilts daily now. It looks alright in the morning, but by the afternoon it's all limpy.

My side yard pumpkins look good. The biggest one was growing beautifully...straight up. It finally eased over to the side, and is growing towards the air conditioner.

My sunflowers are getting bigger now. A few are maybe 2' tall. I can't wait to see flowers.

I went to see if Big Brother is on tonight, and I saw the option for picking the MVP. Nick's not in the group, so I guess he got evicted. I'm intrigued to find out what happened. Candace is pretty sharp for suspecting the alliance. It's not real clear who are the good players still. Helen's got potential. Elissa, while being a horrible visual reminder of her sister, is much more likeable than her sister.

teasel. peppers will grow in the shade but not as big or uniform as in full sun.

Good old soap and water to wash the leaves off is a quick fix.

I haven`t picked a fave yet but leaning toward Helen or Candance. I like Andy but he don`t have the stuff to win.

Bacterial wilt is everywhere. Especially so in the more humid climes. If you suspect it, make sure you clean the area well after disposing of the plant.
