For any and all who follow "Generational Astrology brought to you by the Planet Pluto."This is the current crop of High School Graduates that we are looking at, and the Transformation that they presage: quote: Pluto in Sagittarius:Sagittarius is a sign of religion, law, philosophy, higher education and travel. Pluto entered Sagittarius around the year 2000, marking a period of spiritual regeneration at the beginning of the Aquarian age. At this time there will be a fundamental understanding of deeper spiritual values among all people. Religions as they are known at present will be completely transformed. There will be one world religion based on man's direct intuitive communion with the One Creator. New spiritual leaders will arise to teach the fundamental laws governing all life in the universe. The new world religion will combine all the highest expressions of the great religions of the past, with a more comprehensive scientific understanding of the underlying forces of life." Now I get to figure out how I'm going to pay for all that Hahahaha. Just kidding. The college is amazingly generous, cutting fees for everyone by at least half just from the endowment. Basically, any family pulling below $80K has their kids go totally free. At $150K income, the family contributes only 10% of income to fees ($15K a year isn't too bad for $150K of income), and the tuition is less than most state colleges (for a nine month academic year). For me, they say "no more than your state college" before merit scholarships. Basically, the merit scholarships are the remaining factor. Therefore, the brilliant kids still go to college without paying anything. My kid isn't *that* brilliant hahaha. Music school ain't cutting anybody a break. Fees are outrageous. Like I have always said, unfortunately music continues to be the domain of the wealthy, and that is highly unfair. Don't congratulate me! I did nothing except hope that my kid is more successful than I am. IP: Logged |

Randall, My kid is one of these 992. Early decision odds are much better, but the quality of the applicant pool is also much, much higher. http://alumni.harvard.edu/stories/992-admitted-under-early-action 100% of students graduate debt free. The university *prohibits* (well, morally speaking) its graduates to have college debt. 20% of families don't pay anything for college. They build the kids to succeed. That's the difference: not the academics. You can get a great education at most places. Few bother to ensure success for their graduates at this painstaking level. Use the calculator on this page. For a family of four in Georgia with one kid in college, with an annual income of $80K and $10K of assets (simulating an average middle class family), the family pays $8,600 a year. This includes tuition plus room & board plus all incidentals, and there are scholarships for books too. http://college.harvard.edu/financial-aid In comparison, the University of Georgia, the public university, charges $20,600 a year for tuition and room & board before financial aid. Assumuing 50% aid (which is generous, given that a lot of the aid are loans while the aid at Harvard are grants/gifts), Harvard is still cheaper than the University of Georgia. http://osfa.uga.edu/cost.html Ken Griffin, the founder of Citadel, the hedge fund, just gave $150MM to help fund the financial aid. Ken is a pretty young guy himself, class of 1989. http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2014/02/19/hedge-fun d-manager-griffin-to-donate-150-million-to-harvard/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0 From Homeless to Harvard. Both of these ladies were taken on, sheltered by university, and set on paths to success.
I'm pretty sure you know the story about Dawn Loggins from North Carolina. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9-a1tiT66E http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liTZlYpkdoo From New York, there's Liz Murray. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6OSBi-wVgE Dawn Loggins: "Your situation doesn't define you."
