If you are looking for a budget friendly chocolate maker for valentines,
other than the mass market Whitman's etc I discovered a maker crafting
good chocolates called Elmer's

Elmer's has been making chocolates since 1855. They are sold in many drugstores,
and Wally-World. Some grocery chains carry them as well [safeway, harris teeter]
they are worth looking for.

On the other side of the spectrum most premium chocolate makers charge $21+ a pound.

See's have been in the biz since 1921. They are a CA company based in L.A. If you want the best, try See's. They are located as kiosk retail in many shopping malls now.

Fannie May is another, but I haven't had their candy for years. I remember their crunchy
nut butter toffee as Divine.

I would love to hear of other chocolate discoveries made by intrepid chocoholics.

Well my boyfriend (being an Aquarius) is far from romantic so I'm not expecting anything on V day - that way I won't be disappointed. He just doesn't get it!

Good stuff Node

Londongirl, I`m sure he gets the love part of it. But he , as said ,an Aquarian, does not get the mass medias idea of Valentines Day.

An I love you is a gift from the heart and keeps the heart warm for a long time.
A box of chocolates keeps the tummy warm for a few hours.

Being an Aquarius myself I'm not exactly in favour of over the top romantic gestures but something / anything would be nice

It doesn't help that he's so contrary. He acts like he doesn't care about me - then he introduces me to his mother and son!

Oh well... I shall try not to over analyse things and just let it be

Happy Valentines Day!

It's a very important day to me. I pretty much go all out. More so than any other day of the year, except my wedding anniversary.

Happy Valentines Day to everyone, who celebrates

I'm quite new to this holiday, and most of my adult life, I was single during this holiday. But I'd spend it with my friend. We had a friends-only Val's Day. Funny thing is, when she first got into a relationship, she said Valentines Day was "weird", because she wasn't with me

That's my story. If you have no one to spend with, you are not missing on anything anyway haha It's just another commercial holiday. Every day should be filled with romance and passion.

Just in case... I'm baking surprise "romantic" cookies for my man to take to work tomorrow

Node, some honey hops choc for you:

Honey Hops

If you hate that idea (wouldn't blame you, it's an acquired taste) try

The Cure

These guys ship all over the country. Their chocolates are expensive but exquisite. http://www.ctsweetremedies.com

I second See's. Unbelievably delicious. Glad to have a choc day come only once a year or I'll be broke all the time!

Just how many chocolate-covered hearts do we shove down our pie-holes each Valentine’s Day? According to Nielsen, Americans will purchase around 58 million pounds of chocolate during the days leading up to the 14th (a small fraction of the reported 3 billion pounds per year), and we shell out somewhere around $345 million to satisfy our Valentine’s sweet tooth.
