Tales of Brave Ulysses
(Cream)

Well you thought the leaden winter would bring you down forever
But you rode upon a steamer to the violence of the sun

And the colors of the sea blind your eyes with trembling mermaids
And you touch the distant beaches with tales of brave Ulysses
How his naked ears were tortured by the sirens sweetly singing
Sparkling waves are calling you to touch her white laced lips

You see your girl's brown body dancing through the turquoise
And her footprints make you follow where the sky loves the sea
And when your fingers find her, she drowns you in her body
Carving deep blue ripples in the tissues of your mind

The tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers
You want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter

Her name is Aphrodite and she rides a crimson shell
You know you cannot leave her for you touched the distant sands
With tales of brave Ulysses, how his naked ears were tortured
By the sirens sweetly singing

The tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers
You want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter

Atlantis
(Donovan)

The continent of Atlantis was an island
Which lay before the great flood
In the area we now call the Atlantic Ocean

So great an area of land that from her western shores
Those beautiful sailors journeyed to the south
And the North Americas with ease
In their ships with painted sails

To them East Africa was a neighbor
Across a short strait of sea miles
The great Egyptian age is but a remnant of the Atlantian culture
The antediluvian kings colonized the world
All the Gods who play in the mythological dramas
In all legends from all lands were from far Atlantis

Knowing her fate, Atlantis sent out ships
To all corners of the Earth, on board were the
Twelve, 'The poet, the physician, the farmer, the scientist
The magician and the other so-called Gods of our legends'

Though Gods they were
And as the elders of our time choose to remain blind
Let us rejoice and let us sing
And dance and ring in the new
Hail Atlantis

Way down below the ocean where I wanna be, she may be
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be, she may be
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be, she may be

(My Antediluvian Love)

I find it interesting that I discovered this album in a Time Warp Bookstore yesterday, and purchased it alongside Gooberz...

People are into their Rush, man.

"The Fountain of Lamneth"
(Rush)

I. In the Valley

I am born;
I am me.
I am new.
I am free.

Look at me;
I am young.
Sight unseen;
Life unsung.

My eyes have just been opened,
And they're open very wide.
Images around me
Don't identify inside.

Just one blur I recognize,
The one that soothes and feeds.
My way of life is easy,
And as simple are my needs.

Yet my eyes are drawn toward
The mountain in the east.
Fascinates and captivates;
Gives my heart no peace.

The mountain holds the sunrise
In the prison of the night,
Till bursting forth from rocky chains,
The valley floods with light.

Living one long sunrise,
For to me all things are new.
I've never watched the sky grow
Pale, or strolled through fields of dew.

I do not know of dust to dust.
I live from breath to breath.
I live to climb that mountain
To the Fountain of Lamneth.

II. Didacts and Narpets

Listen!

III. No One At the Bridge

Crying back to consciousness,
The coldness grips my skin.
The sky is pitching violently,
And drawn by shrieking winds.

Seaspray blurs my vision.
Waves roll by so fast.
Save my ship of freedom.
I'm lashed, helpless, to the mast.

Remembering when first I held
The wheel in my own hands,
I took the helm so eagerly
And sailed for distant lands.

But now the sea's too heavy.
And I just don't understand,
Why must my crew desert me
When I need a guiding hand?

Call out for direction
And there's no one there to steer.
Shout out for salvation
But there's no one there to hear.

Cry out supplication
For the maelstrom is near.
Scream out desperation
But no one cares to hear.

IV. Panacea

The whiteness of confusion
Is unfolding from my mind.
I stare around in wonder.
Have I left my life behind.

I catch the scent of ambergris
And turn my head, surprised.
My gaze is caught and held and I
Am helpless, mesmerized.

Panacea, liquid grace.
Oh, let me touch your gentle face.
Enchantment falls arond me
And I know I cannot leave.

Here's a meaning for my life,
A shelter from the storm.
Pacify my troubles with
Her body, soft and warm.

Naked in our unity,
A smile for ev'ry tear.
Gentle hands that promise me
Comfort through the years.

Yet I know I must be gone
Before the light of dawn.

Panacea, passion pure.
I can't resist your gentle lure.
My heart will lie beside you,
And my wandering body grieve.

V. Bacchus Plateau

Another endless day.
Silhouettes of grey.
Another glass of wine.
Drink with eyes that shine.

To days
Without that chill at morning.
Long nights,
Time out of mind.

Draw another goblet
From the cask of forty-three.
Crimson, misty mem'ry,
Hazy glimpse of me.

Give me back my wonder.
I've something more to give.
I guess it doesn't matter.
There's not much more to,
Not much more to live.

Another foggy dawn.
The mountain almost gone.
Another doubtful fear.
The road is not so clear.

My soul
Grows ever weary,
And the end
Is ever near.

VI. The Fountain

Look the mist is rising,
And the sun is peaking through.
See the steps grow lighter
As I reach their final few.

Hear the dancing waters;
I must be drawing near.
Feel, my heart is pounding
With embattled hope and fear.

The key, the end, the answer,
Stripped of their disguise.
Still it's al confusion,
And tears spring to my eyes.

Though I've reached a signpost;
It's really not the end.
Like old Sol behind the mountain,
I'll be coming up again.

Now at last I fall before
The Fountain of Lamneth.
I thought I would be singing,
But I'm tired, out of breath.

Many journeys end here,
But the secret's told the same.
Life is just the candle,
And a dream must give it flame.

I'm in motion.
I am still.
I am crying.
I am still.
I'm together.
I'm apart.
I'm forever
At the start.
Still, I am.

Cup of Wonder
(Jethro Tull)

May I make my fond excuses for the lateness of the hour,
but we accept your invitation, and we bring you Beltane's flower.
For the May Day is the great day, sung along the old straight track.
And those who ancient lines did lay will heed the song that calls them back.

Pass the word and pass the lady, pass the plate to all who hunger.
Pass the wit of ancient wisdom, pass the cup of crimson wonder.

Ask the green man where he comes from, ask the cup that fills with red.
Ask the old grey standing stones that show the sun its way to bed.
Question all as to their ways, and learn the secrets that they hold.
Walk the lines of nature's palm crossed with silver and with gold.

Pass the cup and pass the lady, pass the plate to all who hunger.
Pass the wit of ancient wisdom, pass the cup of crimson wonder.

Join in black December's sadness, lie in August's welcome corn.
Stir the cup that's ever-filling with the blood of all that's born.
But the May Day is the great day, sung along the old straight track.
And those who ancient lines did lay will heed this song that calls them back.

Pass the word and pass the lady, pass the plate to all who hunger.
Pass the wit of ancient wisdom, pass the cup of crimson wonder.

"Christabel"
(Robert Earl Keen)

It's been seven long days and seven hard nights
In a sixty-two Chevy with broke taillights
An eastbound man in a westbound lane
A dishwater blonde about sixteen
Was standing on the shoulder with a ribbon in her hair
Her hand on her hip and her thumb in the air
And I pulled off the road and as she grabbed for the door
I knew the wind was cold 'cuz I'd seen it all before

And I was scared

Things ain't never what they seem
When you find yourself livin' in your own dream

Now the moonlight peeked in and out behind the clouds
Now and again on this godless child
And the radio was scramblin', cracklin' in the air
The ribbon she wore looked old in her hair
And I saw the moonlight sliver dead down on her face
I knew it was true she was in the wrong place
In the wrong time, in the wrong tale
I knew when I'd asked her she'd hiss,

"Christabel"

Things ain't never what they seem
When you find yourself livin' in your own dream

She was after the man who'd left her alone
With no father beside her and love longtime gone
And the snake deep inside her a hiss in her head
The rest that had been her was dying or dead
And she'd a taste for young women with pearly white skin
She spat on the floor when she spoke of the man who made her like this
Who had written her tale
This medieval maid they call

Christabel

Things ain't never what they seem
When you find yourself livin' in your own dream

Then she breathed out the story of her lover to be
A knight'n shining armor on a silvery steed
Who longed to be worthy so he sought the crusade
While she waited, breath bated, in linen brocade
But a pair of black eyes wove 'round her a spell
The snake they call Lydia seduced Christabel
And she cuddled her tender and she poisoned her soul
She stole her young body and made it her own

Things ain't never what they seem
When you find yourself livin' in your own dream

Now the knight would love Lydia in Christabel's arms
And Lydia would have it should he ever return
But Lydia was left with the story undone
No silvery steed no castle no throne
Half woman half serpent entwined in a spell
A barge black and fancy this medieval tale
And she faded at dawn the bird and the beast
Deep in the dreams of those bound for the east

Like me

Things ain't never what they seem
When you find yourself livin' in your own dream

Things ain't never what they seem...

"Who Do You Think You're Fooling?"
(Greg Brown)

Ah who do ya, who do ya, who do ya think you're foolin Who do ya, who do ya, who do ya, who do ya, who do ya Who do ya think you're foolin Ah who do ya, who do ya, who do ya, who do ya, who do ya Who do ya think you're foolin

I wouldn't miss her at all
if she ran away
With some other fella
had a real good time,
never wrote or called

I wouldn't miss her at all,
I'd be doin fine
I'd get myself a great big
bottle of wine, have a party

I wouldn't miss her at all,
I'd be doin fine
If she ran away from me
I wouldn't miss her at all,
no I wouldn't, never would

A little voice in my head said

who do ya, ah who do ya, who do ya think you're foolin Ah who do ya, who do ya, who do ya, who do ya, who do ya Who do ya think you're foolin

Sunflower
over by the garden wall
You're gonna bloom
through the spring
and the summer and the fall

Ain't no jaybird gonna fly down,
pick the seeds out of your face
Leave you a sad brown skeleton
when the fall rains come down

No you're gonna shine,
ah you're gonna shine,
you're gonna shine
sunflower, shine all the time,
shine

A little voice in its head said

who do ya, ah who do ya, who do ya think you're foolin Ah who do ya, who do ya, who do ya, who do ya, who do ya Who do ya think you're foolin

Ain't gonna blow it up,
ain't gonna mess it up
There ain't no little babies
gonna be born have a real hard time
for the color of their skin
Where they were born, why they were born Ain't gonna blow it up, ain't gonna mess it up

People want to love one another,
be kind to one another,
dance with one another
Don't ya know that the people
want to love one another,
don't want to hate one another
People want to love one another,
be kind to one another
People want to love one another,
don't wanna hate one another
Ain't gonna blow it up,
ain't gonna mess it up no

A little voice in everybody's head said

who do ya, ah who do ya, who do ya think you're foolin Ah who do ya, who do ya, who do ya, who do ya, who do ya Who do ya think you're foolin Ah now who do ya, who do ya, who do ya, who do ya, who do ya Who do ya think you're foolin
