We protect our garden spiders, and even our wolf spiders (if we can, but it can be difficult because they are ground dwelling like the hobo spiders). It's the spiders that cause huge, necrotic wounds here that I try to exterminate as much as possible. Thankfully, most areas of the country don't have to deal with those types. Unless you live in the South and have brown recluses to deal with. But the other fellows are good in my book. I'm naturally very fond of spiders, due to the fact that they do take care of other annoying pests, and they mostly just mind their own business. It's the hobo spiders that are legitimately dangerous up here. But if you live somewhere like the Midwest, I wouldn't pay much mind to your garden spiders. I think that California is safe as well. I got bitten by a brown recluse. I tried to deal with it naturally for 4 days and then went to the hospital. It was inside a pair of lounging pants in my laundry room that I put on in a hurry to drive my children to school. It bit my knee. Thank God, it did not bite higher or that would have been super embarrassing I have a little scar but nothing huge. ------------------ Want To Ask Any Question About Bible Prophecy? Go For it. OH, and for the snakes, bees and any other toxic stings or bites, plantain is nearly always available and at hand. It's really amazing to me that every problem has an immediate solution, if we pay closer attention to the little things. You just chew the leaf and put it on. Once we were hiking the Battle Creek Canyon and ran across a nest of bees. My son took the brunt and we had to use moss, because there was no plantain at hand. My Aunt used tobacco in the same way, it draws. IP: Logged |

Gaahhh! My husband was also bit by a hobo spider (slightly less toxic than the brown recluse, but not by much), and he just let the wound sit there and fester until it went away. Had we known each other at the time, I wouldn't have allowed that, haha. It was on his arm, and the abscess swelled so much that he couldn't even bend his arm beyond about the point that a person with a cast can bend theirs. Because our house sat vacant for at least a year while we waited for the short-sale to go through (for the life of me, I cannot understand why they call it that), we had a veritable hobo spider cave in our shed that I had to diligently clear out (in my Bill Murray suit from Ghost Busters). I think I've at least thinned out the population significantly, although I do feel some guilt about it. But I generally use food grade Diatomaceous Earth for such things, and try to keep it away from the bees. IP: Logged |

Ellyn, where do you get those? I often see golden seal sold in tablets as supplements, and myrrh sold in EO form, but I've never seen either come in powder form or anything, and I wouldn't know what they look like in natural form. Do you use the powder and make a paste from it? Also, when I think of plantains, I think of this?

Pennyroyal is good as well, but has precautions. http://oneproductatatime.com/2012/10/18/goldenseal-myrrh/ IP: Logged |
