This Is The Area Of Solar Panels It Would Take To Power The World, Europe, And Germany. quote: This image, which has gone viral on Tumblr, comes from “Eco-balance of a Solar Electricity Transmission from North Africa to Europe”, a diploma thesis by Nadine May at the Techniucal University of Braunschweig. http://www.dlr.de/tt/Portaldata/41/Resources /dokumente/institut/system/projects/Ecobalance_of_a_Solar_Electricity_Transmission.pdf As the thesis shows, the area required for the panels is far from the only consideration. For example, there are the environmental impacts of overhead lines, underground cables, and submarine cables. In the thesis, May writes: These considerations only serve to point at the large potential of this energy resource and technology respectively. It should not give the impression [that this is] the only option for the expansion of renewable energies. However, she concludes: The general statement can be formulated that, from an ecological point of view, nothing is opposed to the expansion of solar thermal energy in North Africa and a transmission of the generated solar electricity to Europe.

interesting! I keep reading it`s the thing of our future but the future keeps slipping by. The cost of solar panals for a general household is quite cost prohibitive. ------------------ Christian, Jew, Muslim, Shaman, Zoroastrian, stone, ground, mountain, river, each has a secret way of being with the Mystery, unique and not to be judged. I saw the report... Thank you Lexxi! Very interesting. Want to give you a compliment here... I love the "art" of your post. Your posts are often a feast for the eyes. (Complimenting you on that, in addition to the interesting topics and depth of the info you provide). I clicked the link and loved reading through the pdf. The scientific manual's construction, formatting, and organization was a perfect treat... ! *slurp* ahhh!!!! IP: Logged | |
