This is a pretty good example of how they look💓💓💓💓😎

http://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:FireFlies_short_video.webm

http://www.northeastohioboomer.com/blogger/fireflies-summer-night-magic/

I have been observing their comings and goings almost every year of my 67 years of life to date.💓😎
Started watching them seriously when I was 4 years old in the Spring of 1959 at age 4/1/2
and started documenting their returns and leavings of their yearly seasons here in
Northeastern Ohio.
So have been documented it all here and even went to other states to see them:
the first documentation was June 21st. 1959,
even though I had observed them as early as
June 1957, now 65 years to date with last night giving me an absolutely wonderful treat especially since I have cancers and this may well be my last firefly/lightning bug season to enjoy.
They have usually returned for their annual season on June 21st. and go back into hibernation oddly the day after Labor Day here in my area of the world, which is the day after the first Monday in September.
Last evening at 9:00 PM they showed up a day early‼️💓😎
If this could be my last season to live to see them then that was an absolutely wonderful early return of them bringing their annual flashing beautiful magic back here to watch each evening and most of the night.💓😎
I was so afraid based on what doctors have said that I would not be here to see them this year.👽
I do not know whether I will last their full season but I sure hope I will be able to enjoy many more years of their comings and goings and magical fairy light shows💓😎🧚‍♂️🧚‍♀️Also another precious treat earlier than I have known was on June 9th. The glow worms or the wingless females were glowing deep in the weeds and tall grass and in leaf and wood natural mulch.
🐛💓

Last year was an odd year with them not showing up until June 23rd. and leaving two days earlier than usual, not making it to Labor Day.😞👽

In 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 they arrived on a new schedule being 10 days earlier than the years and decades before.
They came on June 11th. 😎💓
Then this year they gave me a real treat by returning a day earlier on June 10th.😎💓
1957 to 2016 their return was usually June 21st.

I was surprised to learn that not everyone here at LL has witnessed the magnificent shows of these amazing creatures.
I shall try to find some videos of them and post.💓😎

By the way........
I almost moved to other states and even to another country. Ireland for example and upon discovering they do not have fireflies in those places,
aside from other logistics and financial and health concerns;
I could not bring myself to move anywhere that does not have fireflies/lightning bugs.
These beautiful little beings are far too integral and deeply ingrained in my heart and soul to let me leave to where they did not exist.

Actually fireflies/lightning bugs are related to the
very ugly and loud obnoxious June Bug.
I suppose folks call them June Bugs in error mainly because they come in June there 😉
quote:

Fireflies, or lightning bugs, are beetles (same order as June bugs: Coleoptera) from the family Lampyridae.
quote:
Melolonthinae is a subfamily of the scarab beetles (family Scarabaeidae).
It is a very diverse group; distributed over most of the world, it contains over 11,000 species in over 750 genera. Some authors include the scarab subfamilies Euchirinae and Pachypodinae as tribes in the Melolonthinae.
June Bugs which are a Type of
scarab beetle are from the
Superfamily:
Scarabaeoidea
and the
Family:
Scarabaeidae

Both beetles, Fireflies and June Bugs are from the order
Coleoptera
but NOT from the same families.

Whilst the firefly is lovely the June bug is rather gross and not a light emitting creature.
It is also attracted to lights and becomes quite bothersome on porches etcetera unlike the firefly which avoids porch lights etcetera.

We used to catch them in jars with holes poked in the top of the lids and let them out after a few hours.

My mama opossum came to eat animal crackers this night💞😎
Fireflies in wild abundance too😎💞
So despite bad times medically and bad news
from many doctors,
at least I had reasons to smile some after dark😎💞
Planning on that miracle or several miracles
so that I will live to watch the fireflies and opossums for many more Summers to come
and more😎💞🌄🌈🥵

There were more lovely visitors last night😎
The huge mosquito hawks a very big breed of dragon fly were zipping fast all over
dipping and diving eating bad bugs😎
They are huge and sound like they make is a long zip zip sound😎
Lots of moths too and of course fireflies.
A giant toad has been hanging out near my bedroom window too😎💖
Pardon any typos.

Oh my😄
that is not even close
to all of what shows up
out in my small view😎😄😳
Very strange that I had like ved far
out in the sticks most of my life before
moving here to the city edge,
and never even came close to seeing
so much diversity and wildlife abundances😳👽
Maybe it is because nature is out of
balance in the votes with people feeding
vermin and even not vermin creatures intentionally or accidentally like that he trash pandas and groundhogs.
The squirrels and deer and chipmunks become problematic because they do not fear humans being around all them all the time,
and the low rate of predators to
prey causes the trouble makers to become overpopulated and that causes trouble
for all both human and animals alike😢👽
Humans in cities kill predators too
often who help to maintain healthy
ecological balances in the country
to a degree.
We do get bears often too but usually the y just pass through and cause no trouble.
That tash pandas are somewhat guilty as are stray or pet dogs illegally let run free at night flipping trash cans over gives
the bears an easy feast on nights
before trash pickup.

For some reason the past week there has
been more skunks than usual and odd albino
ones too😳
Love skunks until they spray because a trash panda(coon) runs up and slaps them in
the face and the skunk fires off a spray of stench as
the trash panda being a big smartash
runs away before the skunk can turn its
back to spray the obnoxious trouble maker in the face.
Yeah that is one of the trash pandas'
new games here👽
They even ran up to my cat sleeping on
the lawn furniture and stood up and looked right at me and slapped the poor cat
like three times on her head and and then stared at me a moment and sauntered off
like he was king🤬
It would not be so bad but coons here do carry rabies and another disease that can cause blindness and nerve damage to humans👽😢
I have been infected by them with that too many times🤬
Antibiotics cures it but it can as it
has cause serious and permanent damage😢🤬

I still love nature but when it invades my
world too much and hurts my pets and destroys food I grow for me to eat and destroys my property and costs me thousands of dollars
in property and vehicle damages,
then yeah they become vermin in
my oint of view👽🤬

Please pardon any typos.

Oh yeah huge praying mantises have
arrived and katydids and singing
thrips and more at night💖😎

Over 20 showed up last evening to
my surprise and joy❤️❤️❤️
very very very unusual
as they usually leave to go hibernate
after showing op on Labor Day
evenings😳👽
I have been keeping a close
watch on their comings and goings
for over 63yearscto date almost😎❤️

I also counted over 23 sounds of
various night singing clicking
etcetera insects and amphibians
and add at least several more sounds
for owls and bats and their sounds
last evening and night😎❤️

Beautiful😎❤️

feeling like I am on death's door😳
Weedng and putting down weed barriers
so next Summer I will be able to just
plant and wait for the results🥰😎
Hopefully I can find a way to put up a groundhog barrier and or a kind of
greenhouse around at least the
tomatoes and cucumbers etcetera 😎
Wish garden supplies were not so
damn expensive😳👽😢
Every year ,I buy at least one new
garden tool😎
A few days ago I bought a
nice sturdy short shovel which
I use from sitting down in a chair and
or sitting or even lying down on
the ground😎🥰
Still see quote a few butterflies
and months even though the fireflies
have gone into hibernation😎
The toads are still hopping about
at night and love to sit by

this evening was utterly unexpected
and wonderful🥰😎💞
I posted this on other threads
but wanted to re-post wherever
I mentioned them before😎💞🥰

I am deliriously overjoyed this
late Sunday evening September 18th.💓😁🥰😎💞
I have been tracking fireflies
for about 63 of my near 68 years
to date😎🥰
I have never known them to not be in hibernation this late👽😳
They are usually in hibernation the
day after Labor Day 😳
They made a lovely appearance 💞🥰😎
surprisingly to my utter delight on
Saturday September 10th.about 9:00PM
or so😎💞🥰
That is days after the day after Labor Day 😳👽😎
Then this evening about 8:45PM.
On this Sunday September 18th.👽😳
or so🥰💞😎
They made another very very 👽🥰
unexpected reappearance and were
zooming and swirling and diving
towards me repeatedly🥰😎💞
I thought I would not see them
again
until Summer 2023👽😢
Now I must survive these cancers 👽
which I am fighting with all the
willpower that I can muster
so that I will definitely be able
for sure to live to enjoy another
Summer of fireflies in 2023🥰😎💞♾️❤️
I really needed this wonderful🥰
thing that feels like very good 💞🥰
luck and a definite life giving ♾️💓💞
extension omen for me💞😎🥰💓❤️♾️
Thank you beloved magical fireflies❤️💓🥰💞😎
