This was also posted at LindaLand Central 2,
but it should be here also even though their is not as much traffic here.

http://www.northeastohioboomer.com/blogger/fireflies-summer-night-magic/

I have been observing their comings and goings almost every year of my 67 years of life to date.💓😎
Started watching them seriously when I was 4 years old in the Spring of 1959 at age 4/1/2
and started documenting their returns and leavings of their yearly seasons here in
Northeastern Ohio.
So have been documented it all here and even went to other states to see them:
the first documentation was June 21st. 1959,
even though I had observed them as early as
June 1957, now 65 years to date with last night giving me an absolutely wonderful treat especially since I have cancers and this may well be my last firefly/lightning bug season to enjoy.
They have usually returned for their annual season on June 21st. and go back into hibernation oddly the day after Labor Day here in my area of the world, which is the day after the first Monday in September.
Last evening at 9:00 PM they showed up a day early‼️💓😎
If this could be my last season to live to see them then that was an absolutely wonderful early return of them bringing their annual flashing beautiful magic back here to watch each evening and most of the night.💓😎
I was so afraid based on what doctors have said that I would not be here to see them this year.👽
I do not know whether I will last their full season but I sure hope I will be able to enjoy many more years of their comings and goings and magical fairy light shows💓😎🧚‍♂️🧚‍♀️Also another precious treat earlier than I have known was on June 9th. The glow worms or the wingless females were glowing deep in the weeds and tall grass and in leaf and wood natural mulch.
🐛💓

Last year was an odd year with them not showing up until June 23rd. and leaving two days earlier than usual, not making it to Labor Day.😞👽

In 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 they arrived on a new schedule being 10 days earlier than the years and decades before.
They came on June 11th. 😎💓
Then this year they gave me a real treat by returning a day earlier on June 10th.😎💓
1957 to 2016 their return was usually June 21st.

I was surprised to learn that not everyone here at LL has witnessed the magnificent shows of these amazing creatures.
I shall try to find some videos of them and post.💓😎

By the way........
I almost moved to other states and even to another country. Ireland for example and upon discovering they do not have fireflies in those places,
aside from other logistics and financial and health concerns;
I could not bring myself to move anywhere that does not have fireflies/lightning bugs.
These beautiful little beings are far too integral and deeply ingrained in my heart and soul to let me leave to where they did not exist.
My small pleasures in life include these beautiful creatures and also my other favorites I often watch from my sickbed.
They help give me reasons to keep on living.
Sounds crazy you might say?
Well anyone in my condition would understand.
I love fireflies. Oppossums, Ravens. Crows.
Hawks, mourning doves. Toads. Frogs. Some rats, bats, snakes non venomous, skinks and other garden lizards, butterflies, moths, cicadas all types which are by the way not locusts which folks mistakenly think they are because of their size and loud sounds.
Link to cicada information:

Love too dragon flies. Mosquito Hawks (a very large glorious insect that eats mosquitoes and is so late it actually sounds loud when it dips and dives eating on the fly so to speak.
Turtles, skunks. cranes, All owls, horned. Screech. Barn, white you name it!😎💓
Cats cats cats of course💓💕💞
Chickadees, goldfinches, bluebirds, oreoles,
and so many more creatures!💓😎🦋🦉🦇🦅🦃🐦
Here is one experience I had with an alligator as a child.
Reposted from other forum.
I have swam with stingrays💖
I have sat by an alligator whilst waiting for the school bus in Georgia as a child
and he would make cute little snorting sounds and smile and wag his head at me because he knew....
I would bring him breakfast like
Egg salad sandwiches
Tuna fish sandwiches and such😎
He would sometimes be waiting for me when the bus brought me home💕
He was just a little 4 foot long little fellow💕
The drainage ditch was huge and he would
swim or walk it back and forth betwixt the
creek which led to his home on the Okeefenokee Swamp 😎

Going to post here a few more of my posts from elsewhere and or links to them because they are all animal related and should be grouped here🦉🐦🦅🦋🐛🐞

When I was like 4 to 8 years old we had a pet owl. A Mynah bird and a Raven.💖

I used to sneak and ride a Clydesdale horse in my birthday suit through the woods.
I was 13 years old or so.
No one saw me as it was late and except for a full moon no easy way to see what I was doing.

Most are very nice and at least very interesting.
So many things I could tell but would not know where to start or what to tell aside from mentions here at LL.
I learned things about insects most would find disgusting;
things like some maggots can clean wounds and prevent gangrene.
Some can be used to drain boils and or stop blood clots.
Must be very careful when it comes to insects though because some cure and some invade the body and can kill.👽
Nature is so wonderfully fascinating💓😎
There is a carp feeding station at a reservoir dam spillway and there hundreds
of huge fish, like 10 ,pounds and up😳
One big old guy had weird huge lips and made strange whistling burping sounds and we came to call him
Mick Jagger 💓😎
Mick lived a long time or had relatives with the same big Mick jagger lips😎
Mick was a real trip and would hop up for slices of bread so high that he looked like he was standing up on the other fish crowding under him and he appeared to be actually standing on them on his big tail doing a Mick Jagger shimmy gyrating dance with his lips open wide in joy at the food coming down😎💓

Yesterday there were so many fireflies/lightning bugs out
my bedroom window as I lay there😎💞
Amazing displays as I tried to count
them but they were flashing and
zooming and going wild at
the tune of over 200 flashes a minute😎😎😎💞
They went on for about 3 hours before
tapering off 😎💞
but they continued all night😎💞💞
There were all the the colors too😎💚💙🧡💛💚
Amazingly beautifully magnificent 😎💞
No idea why they are so abundant
this year😳😎 but oh so happy about
there being so many😎💞💚
They must be beyond describing in
the woods😎💞💚
as my view is only a view of about a
55x50 feet area seen out my bedroom window.😎
They even came out like crazy during a heavy rainstorm😎😳💚

Any day now the wonderful fireflies
and lightning bugs
will go into hibernation until
around June 2023
💙😢💙
I shall miss them💙😢
Hoping that I survive these cancers that
I am fighting👽😢
and that I will still be alive and
in body
to see them on their return to
light up the darkness in
June 2023😎❤️

I posted this on other threads
but wanted to re-post wherever
I mentioned them before😎💞🥰

I am deliriously overjoyed this
late Sunday evening September 18th.💓😁🥰😎💞
I have been tracking fireflies
for about 63 of my near 68 years
to date😎🥰
I have never known them to not be in hibernation this late👽😳
They are usually in hibernation the
day after Labor Day 😳
They made a lovely appearance 💞🥰😎
surprisingly to my utter delight on
Saturday September 10th.about 9:00PM
or so😎💞🥰
That is days after the day after Labor Day 😳👽😎
Then this evening about 8:45PM.
On this Sunday September 18th.👽😳
or so🥰💞😎
They made another very very 👽🥰
unexpected reappearance and were
zooming and swirling and diving
towards me repeatedly🥰😎💞
I thought I would not see them
again
until Summer 2023👽😢
Now I must survive these cancers 👽
which I am fighting with all the
willpower that I can muster
so that I will definitely be able
for sure to live to enjoy another
Summer of fireflies in 2023🥰😎💞♾️❤️
I really needed this wonderful🥰
thing that feels like very good 💞🥰
luck and a definite life giving ♾️💓💞
extension omen for me💞😎🥰💓❤️♾️
Thank you beloved magical fireflies❤️💓🥰💞😎
