If you know who Alex Keaton is then I give you credit for being cool (or old like I am).

My 10 year old son just told me that he listens to Mark Levine... he said it's so funny when he calls Obama likers "morons" and that Saturn is closing down because of Obama. He asked me why anyone voted for Obama, stated he would have voted for McCain and wanted to know what was so wrong with George W. Bush.

Now.... I don't care what political views he chooses as long as they are well thought out and not pushed on him but he's about to turn ELEVEN years old!! I'm in my 30's and I STILL don't care about politics! It gives me a headache. I listen to political shows *sometimes* as long as I can tolerate them but never when he's home or in the car.

OH and this conversation was completely unsolicited!

And he thought it was HYSTERICAL when I did an impersonation of Levine saying "YER A MORON!"

I have no idea how he's into this stuff.

I think you should ask how he got interested. The views may have been pushed on him.

I've never met a 10-year-old interested in political candidates save when it had been pushed on him or her (though maybe unintentionally, such as seeing someone they admire say such things & then parroting it passionately). Sometimes they seem to genuinely care about an issue, but if that were the case this time, I imagine he'd have brought it up; instead he focused on the candidates and in my experience that's just weird.

Oh, and I'm curious what your 10-year-old would say if asked:

"Why would you have voted for McCain?"

"And what's so wrong with Obama?"

Would you please ask & then share here?

So why do you think you would have voted for McCain?

"Uh.. I dunno but I decided I would have voted for McCain but it's too late."

Why do you feel that way about Obama?

"Well, I don't really listen to his speeches because I'd rather play with my cars. But most of the people hate Obama."

Like who?

"Like Mark Levin. He hates Obama. And most of the people, too."

Anyone you know?

"Well, my dad hates Obama."

I guess that answers it. Though when I left his dad a few years ago, he was a very liberal democrat that hated Bush - so for him to do a complete 180 and start listening to Mark Levin - that's a stretch.

My boyfriend is a Republican but we just don't talk politics. I'm Independent because I think they are all crooks.

Ty. That sounds about what I'd expect.

And I'm glad it's just that rather than he was being indoctrinated in school (as happens once in a blue moon even to children his age, sometimes with bullying & shaming by a teacher) or spending way too much time with someone obsessed over political parties and/or candidates (as obsession in politics usually means righteousness, which means anger, and constant righteousness/anger isn't good for kids to be around, or at least is a poor role model).

It's unfortunate that many adults who vote are also about as knowledgeable as your 10-year-old...

That's hilarious! And I'm noticing younger and younger people getting into politics. I don't know if it's a school thing or a technology thing but it's always amusing. Mostly it's the environmentalist agenda I hear getting passed around but I'm amazed it's the conservative side that's getting support from your son.

They are all crooks. Independents ftw!
