I think you're wrong katatonic. Most of the rich interviewed by that reporter probably don't pay any "income taxes"...just like Warren Buffet. It's easy to be for something that you're not going to pay....since your earnings come from Capital Gains. IP: Logged |

well i know some of them and they EARN money! do you think george lucas is living off capital gains? he works like a dog...granted at exactly what he chooses to do; then there are several internet magnates who are constantly creating and upgrading their products. it might not seem like "work" to a farmer or builder, but that is a matter of perspective.now, lucas pays quite a lot of PROPERTY tax, though the california rate is pretty low ... he also pays his employees very well and covers them with great benefits. because he believes what goes around comes around. yes they probably have capital gains income too. as do many poorer people. but the point is at least half about fairness, in the sense that "donating" to the govt is erratic and dependent on the wishes of the individual. you see, jwhop, even a poor person who pays no income tax spends a HUGE portion of his income on sales tax, etc etc. this is why it is NOT unfair for the millionaires to pay higher INCOME tax percentages, because their expenditures amount to so much LESS of their income than do a poorer person's. unfortunately there are plenty of millionaires who do NOT believe what goes around comes around. they sit on their money and watch it grow, but they are still EARNING on that growing money and if they make a million a year doing it they should pay MORE than 15%. it is, after all, INCOME.
