Under the new Affordable Care Act that went into effect on October 1, the questions you will be getting from your doctors are going to be a lot more personal – and a lot less private.

According to multiple reports, the new regulations require doctors to ask very invasive questions about the frequency, partners, and intimate details of their patients’ sexual activity. And they will be asking these questions of all patients, including your teenaged children.

According to a report in the New York Post, these questions will be asked “whether it’s the dermatologist or the cardiologist and no matter if the questions are unrelated to why you’re seeking medical help.”

To add to the concern, while the questions will be extremely personal, they will not be private. That’s because doctors are also being pressured to put your answers – and the rest of your medical records – into an online medical database. Doctors who refuse will be giving up some significant federally funded incentives now, and may face fines or other punitive financial consequences by 2015.

The government claims the database provisions are to provide quicker and more accurate medical service wherever you happen to be when you need care. But Goldwater Institute attorney Christina Sandefur warns, “Once you’ve shared your information with a private third party, the Supreme Court has ruled that is fair game for the government,” according to a report at Watchdog.org. This means the government can legally access any data you share with your doctor that goes into this database system.

It is bad enough that you will have to field these challenges to your privacy and dignity, but your teenagers will be getting the same treatment – even when you are not in the room to help defend them.

ParentalRights.org would encourage you to talk to your children about these invasive questions, and decide in advance how much information you are comfortable with them sharing. Questions on everything from sexual behavior to drug use will be asked. (Thanks to successful efforts from the National Rifle Association, questions about gun ownership have been removed. All other “social history” questions remain fair game.)

Betsy McCaughey at the Post recommends, “Patients need to defend their own privacy by refusing to answer the intrusive social history questions. If you need to confide something pertaining to your treatment, ask your doctor about keeping two sets of books so that your secret stays in the office. Doctors take the Hippocratic Oath seriously and won’t be offended.”

Impact of the Parental Rights Amendment

Unfortunately, the proposed Parental Rights Amendment will not reverse the government’s push for intrusive information from you and your child’s personal lives. However, it will preserve the right of parents to direct the care of their children. So, while it cannot prevent doctors from asking such probing and medically unrelated questions, the PRA can ensure that you, the parent, still get the final decision not only in whether you answer those questions, but in any treatment decisions that follow.

Please, take the necessary steps to protect your family from this new provision. Choose your doctors wisely; talk to your children in advance about how they should answer questions that the doctor and government have no business asking; and support the Parental Rights Amendment to safeguard your role as medical decision-maker in the life of your child.

As parents, we need to draw our line in the sand now, while we still have sand left to stand on.

By accident one day, a "page" was stapled to a group of papers I was to carry down to the blood lab for a simple check on my thyroid levels.

OMG!!! I just "happened" to "see" the page before I handed it over to the technician.

I was blown away. The 'personal contents' of GREAT CONFIDENTIALITY were published as a list that the simple phlebotomist got for just my blood draw!

And there were MANY MANY 'errors' there.... wrong dates, ages, wrong diagnoses.

Maybe a year ago, I was in a nearby doctor's office waiting for the physician. I overheard two interns discussing that they had JUST MISTAKENLY sent "wrong info" to patient records. ... It was 'easy' to make a HUGE mistake---- The interns said they have to be more careful because INFORMATION IN THE BASIC RECORD "cannot" be Changed! They had done this to an elderly woman (was my take on it).... And I REALLY don't think they "told" on themselves to "flag" the MISTAKE.

This MISTAKE the two male interns made could perhaps COMPROMISE the woman's safety... and even cost her her Life if the information is 'wrong' enough.

I've had MISTAKES in my own record.... I cannot be given certain drugs or I have bad reactions. I was admitted from E.R. INTO the hospital for 'tests'.... MRI was showing bright spots (firing of electrical activity) that were abnormal. My whole body was like 'chattering'...... They were thinking seizures, or multiple-sclerosis, or brain tumor! NOOOOOOOO ah! They DIDN't READ my "corrected note" at back of the record that I cannot TAKE that drug!!! I trusted them.... OMG!!!! I suffered harshly! My teeth chattered uncontrollably.

I am scared of doctors anyway.... and they make decisions based on WRONG information!

THEY ARE MAKING TOO MANY MISTAKES on the BASE RECORD of patients, then REFUSING to "correct" the mistake!

You are right Obama's colour doesn't - or shouldn't - matter. But Congress intransigence is fueled by the support of the many people who DO care that there is a "f*cking monkey in the whitehouse". And don't tell me they aren't there.

Like those who think the Affordable Care Act is just fine but Obamacare is the devil's handiwork. This whole presidency has been undermined by feeding people's racial and political fears, appealing to the emotions not the rational, practical possibilities.

It's "disappointing" for Tourists, Veterans, etc, not to be able to 'visit' national parks or memorials.

But it's Life-Threatening when the Vulnerable GET NO VOICE.... I have been activistic. I have WARNED my Senator, called my US House Reps...... But they won't respond ~~ even if their STAFFERS think it's an astute worthy observation with foresight for the consequences. no.

I supported these 'men' and canvassed for votes for them. When THEY want something they expect ME to work for them.....

But when I have had a near DEATH/LIFE situation going on, and they "dropped the ball" on my situation, then covered it up, and FAILED to 'take responsibility' for their "errors"... It leaves me LOOKING at Raw Reality of "what" these legislatures are made out of. They have failed to even apologize for the error, much less make-amends.

I have the Power to Vote. Having been STAUNCH supporters of these........ I NOW fume at the indignity of their failure to act.

Medicare will pay for eye doctor ONLY. I have to pay the doctor EXTRA for my measurements he takes (like, $35 bucks zooooowwww~! I told the last eye doc I saw in 2005/6 that HE can't take any 'measurement' off MY body UNLESS he gives me a COPY--- which he said he wouldn't, so I WALKED OUT! ..... WHY let the DOCTOR get PAID for HIMSELF, when it does me NO BENEFIT at all??? hell-oooooo?

(I may be having retina' detachment problems..... like crescent moons flashing at night.... no effy doctors because of the little t-partying QUITTERS!!!!!! )

Back in 2001 was the last pair of eyeglasses I was able to pay for.... cost +$800.00 !!!! I don't even GET that much in my monthly check!! And I pay $400 monthly for copay insurance (that DOESN'T 'count') I SHUDDER to think what a correct pair of eyeglasses with new lenses would COST ME now!!!...

The Government had told me back in mid 2000s that I will ALWAYS proportionately just-miss qualifying for MANY various programs QUOTE: BECAUSE WE HAVE TO DRAW THE LINE, SOME-WHERE!!! I "missed" by their $2.00 ~~~ "tough love" ! I was THEIR "Collateral Damage" person.....

So, I am actually I am 'legally blind' right now. Driver's license says I can't drive after sundown, and can only drive in local neighborhood.... But I donated my car ($5-bill) to a young man with his own consulting business. He had begun doing VERY well.... and traveled by bus system. My beautiful Mercury Marquis Boroughm gave him 'the look' for the classy success that he deserved.
(That was before moving in 2001-- )

I can't afford eyeglasses... Medicare doesn't 'cover' the MOST EXPENSIVE PART of "seeing" .... I wouldn't be able to drive a car right now, even if I HAD one!

Let's SEE "OBAMA CARE" about THAT ONE.... for me!! He doesn't answer, pugh!!
