This article is from the NYT but it includes contribution to the idea from a NY Post (writer from the conservative end) who is equally dismayed by the polarized press.

It makes some good points. Things are getting much more tailored to our individual tastes. The way of the future is niche markets to capitalize on such individualization (which, in turn, isn't so much individualization as it is finding a tribe to belong to).

Unfortunately a large part of the audience is suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. They have been warned about the mainstream media, and I have been onto THEIR twist since the 60s, but they don't seem to realize that agreeing to be isolated(from what the rest of the world is seeing/saying) is agreeing to being indoctrinated and worse.

That is why it is SO important to check out all the different voices and not let anyone dictate truth to us.

Our News Is Gerrymandered, Too.

love that title.

The Hunters full moon on 10.18 @ 7:38 ET has Mars opposing Neptune, almost exact.

Pluto /Uranus are near exact in their ongoing square as well. The personal, the private are on the show floor. We have picked at the scab, now it is time to do what is right. But, 'right' for whom??

is everyone in the equation, or just self.

Interestingly this moon/eclipse makes a tsquare and the US chart's pluto fills it out. I believe it is also on obama's saturn...

Edit...tho several writeups by people I respect are calling it a t square.i just cast it.on astro. And jupiter is 6 degrees out, pretty wide square really! Wotchu think?

Of course some people can read a story written about the Bush administration's negligence and take it as evidence that Obama is to blame...

Don't gaslight yourselves might be a better suggestion

Yeah, the Marxist Messiah O'Bomber, Hairy Reid and Nancy Pee-Lousy are the officers of Gaslighters Anonymous!

Their lies are legion.

Did you see the story posted here today, jwhop, about the 274 soldiers dumped in a landfill? Did you read it? Or the conclusion by the poster that it is just snother reason to impeach Obama?

The fact that the story is about something that happened under Gw, and stopped years ago, fazes this poster not one bit. Any facts will do if you interpret them as supporting your "side".

The OP includes ALL media. You don't seem to have noticed that your faves do it too. The poster of tgat story either has compketely hoodwinked themselves or thinks we can't see names and dates.

I have all but given up talking to you since you see everything as a boxing match. Surprise me, go on!

Why are you bringing this story up to me? I haven't commented on the story one way or the other.

There are plenty of reasons to impeach the Marxist Messiah...which I have already covered and if O'Bomber defaults on our debt obligations which are $20-30B per month while the tax revenues to the government run about $220B per month...then that will be one more reason to impeach the little Marxist twit.

I brought it up because it shows how far some will go to obscure the truth, and they are not all democrats.

The thread is not about impeaching obama but distorted media and how people can avoid being misled. That is what I am interested in, not scoreboards in "red" snd "blue".

The low info voter is real enough, but he is not in one corner of the spectrum. How csn we keep our republic if the people are being misled as to facts?

My quarrel with you is not about which side.is better but about surrendering the process of this country to "my side right or wrong" tactics. If I have to rape a child to get my way, I'll throw the match every time.

I just don't see that.as necessary. Let's get some integrity in our political body and our country can say it's "the greatest" again

Read the article, jwhop. Pretty much all media ... That is why I listen/read different kinds. It helps one see when someone is "selling" a point of view.

Meanwhile the "majority" is a mixed bag neither right nor left.

The majority of what?

If you're talking about the majority of political activists posing as journalists..then, you're just flat wrong. Compared to the majority of Americans, the so called news media are so far left their left feet are hanging off the edge of the earth.

If you're talking about the majority of Americans...then, you're just flat wrong. 60% of Americans self identify as conservative and have for decades in poll after poll after poll.

You seem to have missed more recent polls. The majority of Americans are conservative in some ways and progressive in others. The heavily conservative are in a minority as are the heavily progressive. Wasn't that poll posted here yet? I thought I'd seen it.

Wrong!

Gallup poll: Conservatives outnumber liberals
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0112/71385.html

Wrong!

D3. When thinking about politics and government, do you consider yourself to be... (READ LIST, ROTATE TOP TO BOTTOM, BOTTOM TO TOP)
Very conservative ..........20%
Somewhat conservative ......39%

MODERATE (DNR) ...............2%

Somewhat liberal ............24%
Very liberal ................12%

UNSURE/REFUSED (DNR) ........................3%
http://www.tarrance.com/polls/

I make this long standing poll to be 59% Conservative and 36% liberal. It's been around 60%....59-63% Conservative for decades.

Notice "Very liberal"..ie., Progressives at only 12%. The Marxists, Socialists, Progressives are way down on the political preference chart.

Self identification is so misleading...for instance while I identify as "somewhat" conservative AND liberal you, from what you see of me here, call me far left.

Of course most people are to your left so I don't identify with your label. Neither di most of the people you woukd call leftists.

Most people are, like myself, somewhat both. Somewhat means moderate...ie center spectrum.

Of course if you only ever talk extremism to people who defy extremism, your picture will be satisfyingly skewed to your perspective...

Right, can't trust people to decide for themselves what their political belief system is.

Let the leftist, Marxist, Socialist, Progressive nitwits decide what the folks prefer and they can then tell us what we think.

hahaha, do you usual suspects have any idea just how absurd you sound?

Americans are about 60% Conservative...in Battleground poll after poll going back decades.

And no, you usual suspects don't get to decide/define what's conservative and what's progressive.

Jwhop, don't be plainly stupid, ok?

Obviously, people self-identify under parameters where "conservative" doesn't necessarily equate to "Republican." If that were the case, we wouldn't have Democrats in the office of the Presidency, nor would they be the majority in the Senate. Cat wasn't deciding or defining what's conservative, but pointing out that "conservative" may not mean the same thing to ALL people universally.

Furthermore, we've long known that there are more registered Democrats than there are Conservatives, and that some registered independents won't vote according to party lines.

Here's Pew's latest, as of 2012:

You have to stop harboring these fantasies.
