i'm not being a defeatist at all i'm saying you're ******** about fires in another country no one here can do anything about while likely simultaneously living a lifestyle that contributes to the issue you're afraid of

i'm telling you there are things you could actually be doing instead of telling everyone else to say "why yes this fire is serious" as if that fixes anything

that's not defeatist at all, as a matter of fact i'm telling you that you have power over your decisions and can consciously make choices that are better for the environment and not support practices that harm it with your wallet

that's the exact opposite of defeatist

saying if you're concerned about global warming you can do something other than talk about a rain forest that you can't do anything about and that you can instead focus on the things you can do is acknowledging that you have power over things

my point is you choose to talk about a fire while likely simultaneously supporting the things you feel are worsening the issue you're concerned about

i could say "that fire is terrible we should do something" but when there's nothing to do then it doesn't really make sense to dwell on it does it?

i hope you car pool (at the very least), never use plastic, are very mindful of the companies you buy everything from and their practices, are making investments in green energy and working on turning your own stuff over to that (get any solar panels lately?) etc and so on

Well, they do happen all the time. Just stating the obvious, here. The only thing that makes these wildfires more news-worthy than any other wildfire is the sensationalism surrounding them.

And yeah, there's literally nothing that anybody can do about these fires. The only people who can do something about it, either won't contribute or will not accept the help (i.e. the government of the countries affected). So what's the point? Worry about making your own surroundings better, rather than what may or may not happen because of wildfires somewhere half a world away from you.
