This is the most important issue going on , environmental destruction, and we see how much attention its getting here.

A small experiment but a litmus for the species, we are DUMB and trashing the planet and have no interest in slowing down...any moron can see this happening, and yes it will take the GOVERNMENT to help save us.

Government is only bad if the government is bad. The people have to be responsible for keeping goverment good.

Capitalism isn't going to save the earth, UNLESS government makes saving the earth economically rewarding, this is why a blend of capitalism and mild governmental control of markets is the answer. We need incentives to spare the environment and promote green energy.

We need BOTH government and free (ish) markets.

The issue at hand isn't republican vs democrat, its trash the earth and melt and die vs survive.

Even if you deny climate change the destruction of the amazon is going to huge effects independently on the climate nonetheless

More 'Fake News' from the brain dead media and their pals in the eco-fools movement.

Delingpole: Amazon Fires – A Big, Fat Nothingburger of a #FakeNews Scare Story
James Delingpole
26 Aug 2019

All this week, the mainstream media have been trying to scare you with heartrending tales of burning Amazonia — a conflagration the like of which we have never seen before. Supposedly…....

"Here is the truth about the Amazon fires:

The fires are mainly on agricultural land – not virgin rain forest…"...

Ryan Maue
✔ @RyanMaue
Turns out the Amazon Rain Forest fires aren't exactly as advertised.

Read for yourself: fires are mainly in agricultural areas as farmers prepare their land for planting. The land was cleared in the past.

PORTO VELHO, Brazil (AP) — The Group
of Seven nations on Monday pledged tens of millions of dollars to help fight raging wildfires in the Amazon and protect its rainforest, even as Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro accused rich countries of treating the region like a “colony.”

oof. The white privilege! Spirit of Colonialism lives on.

tbh I haven't kept up on this. I reached my limit on rainforest destruction stories back when Sting was parading around that Amazonian chief with the wooden lip disc. Does he still do that? Has he moved on to something else? I don't even know. He probably has. You will, too.

Let the Brazilians work on this. They know more than you.

End of the discussion.
Fake news lapped up like mother's milk by gullible leftists.

Of course, leftists didn't want to talk about Kalifornia...which almost burned down to bare earth due to leftist mismanagement of Kalifornia forests.

The California fires are due to hotter summer temps. They’re accidentally they’re not intentional burns to make space for ag land. Totally separate issue

The earth belongs to all of us

We alll have to share the same air and water

We are all humans.

We are stewards of the earth , and maybe more if we can get our act together and take care of our mother and each other

Daft.

Are you sure the Amazon isn't burning because of 'white privilege' or 'toxic masculinity'?

The earth is greener now than at any time since satellites have been photographing earth from space.

Living up to your reputation of being WRONG BR.

Good idea for you and other leftists to put a cork in your 'Chicken Little' imitations.

Earth is greener today than it was 20 years ago thanks to 'human activity,' NASA study shows
Paulina Dedaj

A new findings from NASA revealed that the planet has seen an overall increase in greening over the last 20 years, due mainly in part to “ambitious tree planting programs.”

The research published on Feb. 11 found that the greening of earth over the course of the last two decades has shown an overall increase by 5 percent, equal to more than two million square miles of extra green leaf area per year compared to the early 2000s.

Amazon Fires: How Hollywood Celebrities Are Spreading Misinformation on Social Media
AFP
27 Aug 2019

Rio de Janeiro (AFP) ¡V Many high-profile figures seeking to denounce the fires in the Amazon from Madonna and Cristiano Ronaldo to Leonardo DiCaprio and Emmanuel Macron have unwittingly ended up misleading millions on social media, either sharing photographs of the region that are years old or images taken in other parts of the world.

Official figures show nearly 73,000 forest fires were recorded in Brazil in the first eight months of the year, the highest number for any year since 2013. Most were in the Amazon.

Our house is on fire. Literally. The Amazon, the lung of our planet which produces 20 percent of our oxygen is burning,¡¨ France's President Emmanuel Macron said on Twitter, posting a photograph of a burning forest (1) accompanied by the hashtag #ActForTheAmazon.

It is an international crisis. Members of the G7, let's talk in two days about this emergency, Macron said ahead of a planned summit this weekend in Biarritz.

But the photograph used by the French leader does not show this year's fires. A reverse image search showed that it was taken by the American photojournalist Loren McIntyre, known for his work for National Geographic.

Although the image search tool does not reveal when exactly the photograph was taken, McIntyre died in 2003, meaning the image is at least 16 years old.

(1) http://perma.cc/D93C-AYL7

Chile's president, Sebastian Pinera, also ended up tweeting a misleading image to issue a warning about the fires, using a photograph (2) by Reuters journalist Nacho Doce from 2013.

(2) http://perma.cc/6D8D-39L8

Leonardo DiCaprio shared two pictures that proved to be inaccurate the first (3) was the same one shared by Macron while the second (4) was shot in the Peruvian city of Puerto Maldonado in 2016.

Peru is not currently affected by the fires, though authorities are on alert.

(3) http://perma.cc/Z24S-L6PM

(4) http://perma.cc/P2CG-ZHA9

Actor and rapper Jaden Smith, son of superstar Will Smith, posted a dramatic image (5) on Instagram that shows a vast forest on fire as huge columns of smoke rise from it. But the photo, which has garnered more than 1.5 million likes, dates back to 1989.

(5) http://perma.cc/CZD3-6PZZ

Argentine actress and singer Martina Stoessel also shared an old photo (6) with a Twitter post saying, How sad to see this. That picture was shot by Getty Images photographer Mario Toma in 2014.

(6) http://perma.cc/3YLS-H8SG

F1 driver Lewis Hamilton (7) and Brazil soccer captain Dani Alves (8) also posted one of the most widely shared misleading images the picture taken by photographer McIntyre before 2003.

(7) http://perma.cc/S5UF-GTTB

(8) http://perma.cc/F67M-TTZU

Meanwhile tennis star Novak Djokovic (9) shared the 1989 photo posted by Smith.

(9) http://perma.cc/SCS9-KPEW

Portuguese soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo sounded the alarm on Instagram, alerting his 180 million followers that the Amazon Rainforest produces more than 20% of the world's oxygen and its been burning for the past 3 weeks. But the photo (10) accompanying his message was taken on March 29, 2013 by Lauro Alves, from the Brazilian agency RBS, in the non-Amazonian state of Rio Grande do Sul.

(10) http://perma.cc/5H4H-GKTB

Barca striker Luis Suarez also posted an old photo (11) dating back to 2015 and shot by journalist Nacho Doce.

(11) http://perma.cc/3TVF-4TSR

Puerto Rican pop star Ricky Martin (13) and Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello (14) also shared the McIntyre photo tweeted by Macron, DiCaprio and Alves.

(13) http://perma.cc/2L2Y-58KL

(14) http://perma.cc/LVH8-CCW2

US superstar Madonna posted the same 1989 image (15) shared by Smith and Djokovic, writing on Instagram: President Bolsonaro please change your policies and help not only your country but the entire planet. No economic development is more important than protecting this land.

We need to WAKE -UP!! she wrote.

@BlueRoamer

jwhop is right about the pictures being shared being ******** , just saying

it's still bad that it's on fire but it isn't the end of world and a lot of people are spreading false info about it

it's not as dramatic as you're making it out to be, but your concern for the world around you is nice and all that and of course massive fires in a forest are never a good thing

massive fires have their place in the world though
