"Is this post sexist?" to answer your question, i think its all about perception..if we were still living like the way people used to back in the 40's then the world wouldnt be like it is now with so many women in the position as boss and owner...i also think, to answer another part of the question, that housemaking is a split job, if you'v seen "Grown Ups" Chris Rock has a role as the "house dad" and his wife is the one with a job and now a days the idea of "gender" alone is becoming more and more sketchy ------------------ the better the chase, the better the reward IP: Logged |

The reason I ask is that in an apocolyptic catastrophe, wouldn't men take on a food gathering role, while women handle the children, laundry by hand, etc.? Saw it on the zombie show, and it made me ponder. IP: Logged |

Yeah, what's an half an inch? It's actually an ideal height. That way, you can stand on your tippytoes when you kiss your guy.IP: Logged |

No. I think the basic "hardwiring" of what was said in the first post, was correct. But, to apply those terms to a society that's obviously evolved in different ways, and demanded other and new assigned roles, would be foolish and restrictive. Our society has evolved to the point where men do not want to be hunters and gatherers, women don't want to be restrained at home, everyone wants more options... I would even go as far to say that trying to rely on the old biological standards is a recipe for disaster. Hardwiring is one thing to explain instincts and desires. But, adaptability ensures survival! IP: Logged |

I wouldn't be surprised if one day, in the near future, society evolves into more of an extremely individualistic nature - where men and women DEMAND independence from one another, at the start, and child raising is done under dramatically different terms.Like a science fiction novel where the "government" raises children. And men and women are liberated from each other. IP: Logged |

That's sad, NG. It can be amazing.Of course, I do agree with you PS, but in some type of global calamity, I think the men will literally hunt for food and defend their camps, while women cook, launder, and care for the children. I'm not saying that these restrictive roles are commonplace now--or that they are becoming so (quite the opposite), but they are default mechanisms perhaps. IP: Logged |

Make use of the time you have. Cuddling doesn't require a lot of preparation or planning. IP: Logged |

Are women more biologically suited for domesticated tasks? Yes, in a way i think so. Practically if that gives the best outcome of doing the job, why discuss it. If women are better at some things than man, why change it. Altough i'm not a feminist, i believe in equal rights. I like it when man are man and woman are woman. Are women more inclined for nesting? Are men naturally hunters and gatherers? Well, that's a bith primair. I think that the job of a woman holding a family must not be overlooked. It takes time and energy. Husband and wife are in this together, they have to be cooperate and work as good team in a family with children. So the man has to do things to. I always think it's kindda a business. If there's a burglar downstairs, of course the man is going to look.... Is this post sexist? No IP: Logged |

Cuddling is natural. Our primate cousins do it by instinct. With humans, I believe there is a transfer of energy if the two people have a real connection based upon deep feelings for one another.IP: Logged |

I think the traditional roles like the whole Beaver Cleaver thing are unrealistic now days. And it depends on how someone was raised. I was raised with my mom in the kitchen, doing house chores.. hell, she was a girl scout leader and part time help at my school growing up. A lot of it is instinct too.I don't think there's a right or wrong way to view this. IP: Logged |
