This is a very popular trend in our society. Older, secure women who are finding love with younger men...

And, the long seen trend with men, dating younger women...

Are these things really BIG deals? Or, are they just NEW ideas that seem to ruffle feathers for no good reason?

Older men seems to be more commonly accepted than the reverse, but it really depends on the subculture. For example, in Hollywood and in wealthy social circles it's almost the norm. This is probably due to the fact that women mature faster than men (mentally and emotionally), and biologically, a woman has a relatively small window of fertility, where a man can birth children at any adult age. But there is an emerging trend in Hollywood of "cougars," and society is following that lead, though it's probably more frowned upon than an older guy. There is some merit to the older woman concept, in that a woman is at her sexual peak in her 30s, and as such, a younger man might be more prone to satisfy her (in theory). Ultimately, if both are of adult age, it's no one's business but theirs. If two people are happy with one another, then age, race, religion, or even gender (for those so inclined) shouldn't matter.

If you find someone you love with your heart. If he loves you with his heart, nothing matters, no external differences.

I'm actually relieved and feel reassured by women dating younger men. I also like the current trends of older women not being ashamed of their age, but walking around like "hot topics"... why should women hide themselves away after 30, 40, 50, 60 and beyond?

My sister's boyfriend/fiance is twenty-three years older than she is, and they seem to be well matched. I have no complaints if she has no complaints.

BUT, I have always been disgusted by men who are older, always going for girls between the supposedly preferred ages of eighteen and twenty-five. Those guys who pick up drunk college girls, when there's a beautiful lady their own age, in the same area. When it's their M.O. and think that women have a shelf life? Yeah, I think they are pigs. I didn't want them near me when I was younger, and I'm at an age (35) when I don't appreciate the idea that I might be past it - I am sensitive about that at the moment, and this comes from someone who loved turning thirty.

The positive side is that the a$$holes generally weed themselves out for me, in that way. If they can't appreciate me now, then they wouldn't have truly appreciated me at twenty-five.

Teasel,

Yes. There are pigs out there who want the younger, easy women.

But, there are ALSO men who meet younger women with whom they can RELATE to...

As long as you CAN make the distinction, in my opinion, you're well-balanced and correct in having your reservations.

In general, one might rationally infer if there's a 10-year difference, the couple might not have as much to relate to with one another, but there are always exceptions. Sleeping with a drunk girl is actually rape, no matter what the age. But that's for the two of them to decide. Hating on someone OF AGE for dating someone older (or vice versa) isn't any better than hating on someone for dating outside their race or same sex--just because you "feel" for whatever reason it isn't right. Grow up!

Grow up?

I was talking about men who *only* go for the youngest women. That's my opinion; something I'm entitled to.

Was I talking about you? Nope.

If a man thinks that women have a shelf life when it comes to their attractiveness, but they don't, I think they're the ones who need to grow up.

Teasel,

Try not to take it personally... he's having an angry mob of vindictive women attacking him right now, and probably can't tell the differences (in the middle of it) in what you're saying vs. what they are...

It wasn't directed at you, Teasel. I actually agree with your post. But if I didn't agree, it wouldn't elicit a bad response from me, because you articulated it respectfully. But no, that wasn't directed at you...at all

The part about alcohol was in reference to your post. So, I can see how you might think the rest was. My apologies.

Star Trek...I must have watched episode way back in way back land at least 3 times each lol. Loved Data

Anyway my mom and step dad are 10 yrs apart. Mom is 62 and Dad is 52.
My 2nd ex and I are 13 yrs apart. I am 40 and he is 52.
If you figured it out my step dad & ex are the same age lol.

While my mom and step dad are away right now celebrating their 30th anniversary,
my ex and I divorced 5 yrs ago. And not due to age diffference btw.

Its hard as hell out there to find someone who truely makes you happy. Age is just a number peeps.
