I agree with you Pixie. I remember all my trauma and have complex PTSD. Although I will say that dissociation can be a part of PTSD. As an example, my friend who also has PTSD had blacked out memories for a good portion of her life, until she began to remember so they can co-exist. It's like the PTSD is there, but the person is not yet consciously aware of it.But yes, there are indeed people who do dissociate and forget a lot. Sadly, there are so many children who are abused that I instantly consider the possibility that a person may well have suffered from a trauma if they have forgotten so much. Unfortunately, it has held up as a theory too many times to count. IP: Logged |

I have Moon and Pluto in the 4th and I remember everything in vivid detail. Sometimes I wake up feeling like no time has passed at all since I was 6,7 8... It stresses me out when that happens; I wake up as a child to an adult reality. Although I'm usually glad, because my childhood was very dark. I panic that I'm not myself in a way, but rejoice that I' m away from the danger and darkness.IP: Logged |

I am the exact opposite.. I remember almost everything down to the most mundane details.. I can recall how i felt about things and what I was thinking about in the moment. More than anything I can remember how much bigger and complicated things seemed when I was a kid and how time seemed to just drag on.. I can remember sitting in the gym as a kindergartner before school and looking up at the 8th graders and thinking It would be an eternity before I was sitting where they were sitting.. Now I'm 23 and I'm wondering where in the hell all that time went to... It seems like I was that kid just yesterday.IP: Logged |

I don't think any of the theories really explain loss of childhood memories very well. In my own family, my sister has little recall of childhood while i have vivid memories, going back as far as the age of two. Same parents, and if anything she had more comfort and affection than I. Too long a story to relate here but somehow i grew with a stronger sense of self and the memories are part of that Whole picture. Not that all my memories are good, no rose tinting here...IP: Logged |
