shallow superficial, surface, empty, slight, foolish, idle, trivial, meaningless, flimsy, frivolous, skin-deep.lacking depth of intellect or knowledge; concerned only with what is obvious; "shallow people"; "his arguments seemed shallow and tedious" superficial - concerned with or comprehending only what is apparent or obvious; not deep or penetrating emotionally or intellectually; "superficial similarities"; "a superficial mind"; "his thinking was superficial and fuzzy"; "superficial knowledge"; "the superficial report didn't give the true picture"; "only superficial differences". A prettty good example of shallow, is when someone only (or mainly) becomes friends with, or dates someone based on that persons, good looks, money, social status, fame, meaningless sex.

i am not sure that when aquaguy asked "what does it mean?" that he literally didn't know the meaning of the word. IP: Logged |

Nah I didn't mean that dating someone you find attractive is shallow. (I went back to edit my post)...But when that's basically you're only real reason (or the other examples I gave) for dating them, then it's safe to say that person is shallow. IP: Logged |

Well that IS how I see it, the meaning of "shallow" in a communicative way betwixt folks; so that is what I posted.:/ I have read dictionaries for fun for over 53 years; so of course that is my usual way of replying to such a query.IP: Logged |

I treat everyone basically the same, regardless of how they look, unless it's a VERY good looking man, then I will be more shy, averting my eyes and whatever. Or if someone's expression is hostile or objectionable to me for some reason, I will react to that. But I don't care if people are old, young, black, white, skinny or fat. I seriously don't care or pay attention to it. If someone judges me by my looks, if they can't extend to me the full amount of politeness just because they take issue with my clothing or whatever, I will conclude they suffer a bit from shallowness. Then I kind of pity them and will usually talk to them anyway. People who do NOT look down on others for petty reasons are not shallow. Even if they are into all kinds of superficial things, if they can recognize ugly, deformed castaways as their equals...they have enough character to redeem their other flaws, IMO. IP: Logged |

Things that constitute as shallow are, only caring about someone's outward appearance or material possessions based on a ideal collective consciousness. Shallowness usually pertains to things that don't last i.e beauty, the value of objects, and social status. There are different levels of shallowness. IP: Logged |

I think even with the "wink wink" included; that I have been in essence called an idiot? Well; seems you disapprove of a valid dictionary definition of the word shallow. Why insult me? My comprehension is just fine. I simply did not elaborate off into the psycho/social details of shallowness. I assumed others would do that; and as one can see; they are doing so just fine.

Thank you charmainec You are correct; I was not addressing peregrine when I replied to aquaguy91. peregrine/sand/whomever he is; is angry at me for ruining his fun by being a mean moderator in his pov. And yes, btw peregrine/sand/whomever; it was me who objected to your obscene note on your profile.IP: Logged |

If you don't have something nice to say about another person, refrain from saying anything at all. This goes for everyone. IP: Logged |

i never said she did. read back. yet she has done this to me in the past and i find it irrelevant and undermining of one's intelligence not to mention that if she does indeed have trouble posting like she has said in the past then it would save her so much hassle not to do it. IP: Logged |

I did not close your thread out of anger/emotions. You have not acted reasonable; hence even Randall has had to warn you multiple times. As to your obscene note; thank you for changing it without being told. And I cannot help it if you hate me for doing my moderator job. Just behave yourself and you will not need chastised. Also your going at me simply because you did not like my posting a dictionary definition; well THAT was indeed trying to start a fight with me for no reason whatsoever and taking this thread off topic. And you hate me for moving your threads to the appropriate forums; just as I do to anyone, other than a fellow moderator. I am not treating you any differently than I would anyone misbehaving here. You do know the rules; yet you try to sneak around them. You do know how to write properly but you vacillate betwixt sounding intelligent and drunk/stoned. Why???????????????? Funny thing is; despite your giving me grief and hating me I actually do like you when you are behaving and not trying to act stupid/stoned/drunk or crude. That behaving guy is the cool guy I'd like to see more of here. IP: Logged |

btw pregrine was right, i wasnt asking for the definition, i know what the word means. according to the definition we are all somewhat shallow because we pick partners who we find physically attractive. my question is where does wanting an attractive partner cross over into shallowness? I was just posting, not trying to upset you or anyone. I was going to post more but did not get back to doing so; and then peregrine went at me. Sorry my post offended you also. I often post a definition before or along with my own words. Again; sorry my simple post offended you and him. He still had no right to go at me like he has. And since you hated/were also oddly offended at my reply; why didn't you tell Randall; then I would have deleted it if that was what Randall advised. I have chastised you too; is that the real problem?IP: Logged |
