To be honest, I prefer to be ignorant, unintelligent and a good-for-nothing fat beach bum. But someone has to feed me and pay for my toys, and so I needed a job, and for that, a couple silly pieces of paper called degrees were needed.

As for self-learning, I rather just stare into mid-air in idle daydreaming. My best ideas occur that way lol

I KNEW IT!

YTA is a hippie at heart!

It is true, unless one is a self starter and ramps up your own business HR people tend to value those worthless (yet expensive) pieces of paper.

As for starting off into space..dreaming of diving into your Scrooge McDuck money bin no doubt...

Will say though, regimentation does work, however it may not lead to a passion for the material that is required to reach that 1% Mastery that takes someone from competent to seminal.

This is where self learning comes in, there are things one is "supposed" to learn then there are things people actually WANT to learn about.

Exactly this is my reasoning for going to college!
If I can't get a nice well paying job after school I have an excuse to be a good for nothing educated and sexy beach bum.

I enjoy the knowledge, the excitement of knowing something about those subjects. It's like you're my twin.

America has a short history, and I feel like I've learned a great deal already, and have moved on to learning about the whole world.

But I went to college in a historic city, and my family regularly visits battlefields, monuments, national parks, and we go to reenactments.

Other than that, I like hand-crafted things so I always find books/tutorials about embroidery/sewing/wood work/.....

I LOVE handcrafted things. I'm working on a quilt for my daughter, I've done embroidery, made a coloring book for my kids and their friends; plus I love whatever handcrafted things I've been given as gifts.

Additionally I am really into cooking, and I've made my own yogurt, yogurt cheese, butter, ice cream, kombucha, kvass, wheat grass, soy and nut milks. Most Caps I know have taught themselves a great deal about cooking. I also cook a good amount of international food.

I love using old fashioned equipment, too, like my hand-cranked grist meal, iron pans, clay or stoneware pots and molds. I love the aesthetics of old fashioned kitchen tools, especially the different colored metals against wood and other materials.

I only do a bit of gardening since we switch houses mid-summer, but I love that and hope to grow more of my own medicinal herbs someday. As it stands I wildcraft herbs I learned to identify on our rural property.

None of this is to brag, but just to illustrate the kind of self-study I do. And which I think is typical of Capricorn areas of study and interest.

I do.
My goal as a child was to read 2,000 books by age 18.
I read 2,000 books before age 18.
Most were non fiction.
That was not counting magazines and so forth.
I have lost count of the books I have read to date;
maybe 6,000?
Than in 2007 after a series of mini strokes;
my vision was wrecked and it is extremely difficult for me to read books etc.

I still do read; but I often feel like Henry in the old Twilight Zone episode where he is the last man on Earth; there are books everywhere, but then he breaks his glasses.
I thirst for knowledge.
I love learning.
Hence many of my signature lines and thoughts reflect my passion for learning.
Not just book learning but hands on and in trance and or meditation.
Love doing all types of experiments too.

We are all teachers and students.
We learn from each other.
We teach each other.
Everyone is a teacher
Everyone is a student
Even the trees and stars teach us
Learning is all around and forever
Even a god knows that truth.

The existence of infinity/eternity means that
"Learning is forever"
There will always be more to learn/experience.
Omnipotency is a myth/illusion/delusion.

Everyone is a teacher...
Everyone is a student...
Learning is eternal.
~Everyone is
gifted. Some simply open the package sooner~

Have you ever seen Community? (HILARIOUS) They make jokes about how it's a waste of time and just about the tuition $ all the time.

In this country, you have to spend to make. Sad, isn't it?

Very true.

& no, i havent. Is it a movie, or a tv show? Going to google it.....

*found it. looks funny! I'll have to tune in next week.

Keep me in the backyard, I do tricks and I’m a delight to be around You only have to feed me all of those delicious food that you make

I've also payed a bunch of money to get certified in different things, but later realized I could have taught myself the same through books and researching which i later did - and ended up learning much more that way. Makes one feel sort of ripped off afterwards. lol

Gem Sun,
Mercury in Gemini

Its more a matter having to compete.

If you work in software development or IT
Your constantly going to have to improve, learn new skills and move ahead, otherwise your out of a job.

You can teach yourself some of the basics from books, but you would have to complete courses and workshops for more information.

Also, each corporation operates differently.

Once hired you'll have to learn how each operates and the different systems they use.
Each is slightly different and you'll get a good base to get started, but from there you'll have to learn the rest.

Example Objective-C is the language commonly used by Apple to write apps and is a derived form of C. While Visual C++ is commonly used for windows,(although C# is becoming popular) and is Microsoft improvement of C.

Some similarities, but also lots of differences. You'll have to be able to learn and think.
