Which is also why I never took the anti-anxiety meds I was prescribed. They are extremely addictive....and I know what a hard time I have quitting smoking, so i can only imagine what a hard time I'd have trying to quit harder, more addictive drugs, even prescribed pills.

Glad I never 'went there'. I'd probably be dead now if I did.

btw I've tried every method to quit out there....still working on it...

easier said than done.

YTA,

Thank you All.
I appreciate the tips and the support!

So far, my first day without nicotine is a success.
I've resisted the temptation!

The hardest will be when I go back to Uni, most people smoke there, including my buddies.

Gotta keep strong!

The E-cigs worked like magic for me. Took about 10 days and I quit tobacco easily after smoking for 16 years. It was super easy.

PS.
You can get nicotine free versions.

I've been trying to get her to buy those.

I've tried everything in the book.
From crying to behaving disgusted for weeks..

I think I'm going to just buy her some myself..
Any brands you recommend?

Hmmmm.... I have opinions on this. I've never been a smoker although my family is. I don't know why I never did. I don't say anything MUCH to my family. I know it just gets on people's nerves. But I really wish people wouldn't smoke not that it irritates me. People talk about cutting years off your life and cancer and such. But that smoke is just toxin that your body has to deal with every day and less oxygen in your system drags EVERYTHING down.

I used and use a technique that got me started exercising 3 years ago and I'm still at it! This is all my opinion, but I've also used it with success.
As with exercising, controlling eating habits, and many other things, 80% of it is mental.
As for quitting smoking, one mistake that I see time and time again is this:
"I should quit smoking" - "Monday I'm done smoking" - things like that.

NO!!! Not "should" quit - "I AM quitting!" Not "I'm going to quit Monday." - "I'm quitting right now!" You don't have to get fired up like they do in sports, jumping around and dripping with sweat. LOL Unless you want to!
But you have to get fired up in your head. You have to keep telling yourself those things, and tell yourself with conviction, determination. It's a battle, you vs. the smokes. Do you want to lose? No one does. It's a challenge to yourself. You have to talk to yourself in your mind not of what you WANT to do, but of what you WILL do. You are strong, you just have to realize it and dig deep for it. Bring that strength out.

I have a friend at work who didn't finish his pack or pick Monday or Friday or any day to quit. He went home, tossed whatever smokes he had and quit. Believe it or not it was a success. He had it in his heart that he was quitting and nothing was going to stop him.

If you get around other smokers, don't think about how you want one, OR if you feel left out because everyone else is. (NO idea if smokers feel that! LOL ) Secretly, show your coworkers or smoking friends how strong you are. They will notice and will admire you for it. If you succeed it will most likely serve as inspiration for them.
Just keep pounding those strong, direct, determined thoughts into your mind, over and over and over. You will be victorious.

Doux! *HUGS*

I know that to quit smoking is never easy. It will require a great deal of self-control but I believe you can do it!

Good luck!

I smoked two packs a day at one point in college. I had three Turkish roommates and they were crazy about Camels.

Then one of them stole my boyfriend (he was a smoker, too.) I was enraged about this fiasco, to put it mildly, and for once I did something smart: channeled my fury into something positive. I quit cigarettes.

I was like, "Only people like the ole' ex and his flakey, back-stabbing witch girlfriend smoke." I would think about them sitting around smoking. The thought was nauseating and made me not want to be like them whatsoever, in any respect.

I quit cold turkey and never went back.

So my tip, simplified, is: date someone who smokes, try to arrange it so he gets together with your smoking friend, watch them smoking together, laughing it up and smooching. Videotape it perhaps? And keep that image in your head.

Tell me that doesn't work.

PS I no longer judge anyone who smokes, it was just a temporary crutch.

Good Doux. Talk about it when it flares up. I just out a little chart on my FB page about what foods stop which cravings.

I bet there is a food that will help stop it, too.

I think my father used orange juice but I bet there is one that will work on the same receptors as nicotine.

Good girl. You beat it this time and will continue to do the same

Thanks so much for the support.

I'll try my best not to give in!

I know it's for the best.

Oh and I think you're right about fruit juice - I've heard something similar.

I should totally try that!
