Luckily my fam. didn't get affected by it. Which part of the PH are you from lunae?
I do hope it's going to be the same this time. I hope Filipinos will remain strong despite this because this is worse than Sendong, Pablo or Ondoy. I'm from Cebu but I live in the city proper. Luckily it wasn't as badly hit as the northern tip. Most of the towns up there are severely damaged and help is badly needed. How about you, Milly? Where are you from? IP: Logged |

The good news is that many foreign nations have already extended their help and as a Filipina, I am grateful for that. Other than that so far, there hasn't been good news. The number of casualties is still rising, people are already killing each other for survival.. it really is a desolate situation here. IP: Logged |

Good to hear that you're ok. My chest tightened a little when I heard this news. I've been reading follow-ups on this. Reminds me of Japan a few years ago. IP: Logged |

My family and friends here in the city are okay. My grandmother, aunts and cousins in the western part which was also affected are all safe but their city is in a bad state. The coastal areas were wiped out too and that city was the seafood capital of the Philippines. They will have to go for months without electricity. I am also worried about some of my friends who live in Tacloban, the city which had the worst hit and the most casualties. I still haven't heard from them till now.

Thanks for the concern, muddy. There's another typhoon coming here but it's significantly weaker. I hope it doesn't cause flooding because it will make the situation worse than it already is IP: Logged |

My parents are from the Philippines (Bicol region, not hit luckily) but I was born & raised in Canada. So I wouldn't be considered pure filipino since I grew up mostly 'westernized'. But still I look like one & yes I do like watching some TFC, gma pinoy tv & some vice ganda shows :P I've only been there twice, last time I've been there was when I was 14 years old, so it's been 5 years already. I don't really have the money to go to the Philippines....We're not exactly rich here in canada, immigrant life, struggles & blah blah. But we are blessed compared to the people who live in the Philippines. What struck me the most when I visited the Philippines was the poverty. I mean yeah the big malls are nice, but instead of spending all of that money on creating mega malls, tourist spots & etc. they should really help those kids begging on the streets. It's one thing to see poverty on tv, but when you do see it with your own eyes, it changes you. IP: Logged |

Lunae, I want to send my best wishes to everyone in your country. This typhoon has swept over Vietnam but it was significantly weaker. We now have 4 people missing and about six deaths. IP: Logged |

It's still too many people who have been killed and displaced. But it isn't 2004 when 300,000 were killed.IP: Logged |

Thank you Lexx. It was scary, and it still is terrible for most of the affected areas. But they are slowly receiving aid now from the local govt and the international community. I am positive that my counrtymen will rise from the calamity.IP: Logged |

Buddy of mine's family is in the Philippines, but down in the Manilla area. He (Glen Dale Kyle Calvin as a joke) said the infrastructure is so damaged aid has a hard time getting through. IP: Logged |

Yes that's true. The storm surge was more or less 20ft high, it damaged almost everything in its path. Relief ops was difficult in the first few days not only because of impassable roads but also because the main seaports and airport of Tacloban was severely destroyed so relief could only be delivered in limited amounts at a time. Plus all communication systems were down which made it more difficult. Also, there are still a lot of places where help hasn't been able to reach yet, particularly in the western side. Manila is north of the Visayas islands, so it wasn't affected by the storm. IP: Logged |
