I have decided to not pursue this avenue, for now at least. We'll stay friends, maybe. I don't think he is truly ready for a relationship, the last few days confirmed it, and that's ok. I am glad I figured it out this early in the game instead of later.

I have edited out the personal story, but there is some very sound and heartfelt advice in this thread that can help someone else dealing with this situation, at some point in the near or distant future. It helped me a lot and I want to thank each and every one of you for giving your input.
