When the road gets tough and you just can't seem to see a way out, what helps you through it? Honestly, nothing is keeping me going. I am merely existing.

Actually... Food keeps me going. Everyday matters because I'm going to eat and I look forward to what meal I'll be having. I'm upset because lately, I've had all the cuisines I crave. Now food time is just really stressful because I either have to find something totally new to eat or I have to settle for something I already had recently... I don't like that. I love food! *getting out of bed in onesie to go grab some takeout*

But seriously... I really have nothing (besides food) that fuels my desire for life.

I'm going to assume you mean how does one avoid a sense of futility and depression that makes one want to give up. With that in mind, here's from my thread on How I Avoid Depression:

Honestly? Sleep.
It's the easiest way to retreat.
You get to take a break from the world.

what if you parlayed your love for food into something more? took cooking classes or taught yourself new recipes? maybe try them out on others, etc

What keeps me going....

One thing is being able to step back and see where I've come from, where I've been and where I am in life. Life has had crazy surprises. Example, look what LL has brought me and I only joined because I was bored and wanted to talk about astrology. I wanted to learn.

It's the unpredictability I suppose. We think that we know all that something holds or what someone is going to mean to us.
You and I started on a wrong foot but you're subtley changing my online attitude. I would have NEVER thought that we'd get along well, but we do.

So yeah, just that unpredictability. Knowing that I actually don't know! lol

You just have to keep going, keep playing the game, keep dancing and it may feel like you're going nowhere but just have fun. Things will come. That attitude will draw them in. Let that Gemini moon loose. Act a fool, make others smile and laugh. Change their attitude. Help someone at work have a better day.
It's amazing how these things change your relationships and how that change changes you.

Sorry... You do what you want but this stuff works for me.
Enjoy today simply because you are, because tomorrow isn't promised to us and when it does get here, today is gone. Build memories.

I've definitelt realised that I don't know half the stuff I thought I did; and sometimes.. It is actually a good thing because things are either better than you thought they were going to be or neccessary for something far beyond your wildest dreams to happen. Though I say this, I am struggling with certain control situations... But I'll get there!

I could probably go on forever. Sometimes I just say things because I need to remind myself.

Sometimes the things we fear, or hate about ourselves, or don't understand are the things that we need to embrace and learn to love.

Gifts come in many different packages.

Thank you so much for posting this. And yes, that's what I meant... To be honest, I have a serious problem when it comes to uttering, typing, or even thinking that word. I don't know why.. I don't use it that much. Your post is really inspiring and you seem like you have a strong, unbreakable spirit. I hope nothing gets in the way of your attempt to keep *it* well at bay.

Hahahha, I'm right there with you. When I had more soul in me, I used to sleep just to dream. The moment I wake up... I would think to myself, can't wait till it's night time so I can get to bed and see what dreams I'll have tonight. They were always vivid and adventurous!!! Now I just sleep to avoid and escape. I have no tolerance for any kind of reality, be it one synthesized in my dreams or the one I'm living in right now as I write to you.

I used to always tell my mom that I would sell my soul to be a food critic I'm not a bad cook at all but I am too Saturnine to take this kind of thing seriously. I really want the easy way out, which is why I decided to go for medschool.

No need to apologize, really! Your advice was sound and solid. I struggle to *live* life, to really suck its nectar... Sometimes, I cry when I see my mom going out to parties and lounges around DC while I'm sitting at home doing nothing. Being a little loner. I'm really really odd. That's part of the reason I haven't fallen in love since I moved here 3.5 years ago and why I probably won't anytime soon.

But I still really like your view on life. Unpredictability... Yes! It is truly amazing when you're confronted with something that came to be in suddenness. I also wouldn't have thought we would get along and squash our little beef but well... Look at us now! I'm glad that you feel me making a difference on you. I only hope what is yet to come will only be better and I truly hope you find the peace and happiness to overcome your inner tensions.

Well you're welcome. I just feel that I ramble sometimes or get pushy with advice.

I like to be alone. I prefer it and I've accepted it.
I guess a lot of it can be just accepting who you are and that there is no wrong way. (just don't hurt others which I need some work on. lol)

God has a reason for me to be on earth. It is to love Him, first of all. Then, it is to serve others.

She means why is it that one must love God, "first of all" when vanity is a sin? In short, she is insinuating that God is vain. Or probably implicitly projecting her views on religion and deism. Or both.

I see. Well, that would be hard to answer if one were not a Bible believer, I suppose, so I will not attempt it LOL

My cat. Actually I have two but one of them is never around anymore and pretty independent I think he adopted someone else. But the other she is very needy and a scaredy cat, she was abused and abandoned like me and had clear fears of abandonment and has become even more protective of me since my partner is gone, so I will never abandon her or put her through that, so I stay alive for her. She is the only thing that has prevented me from killing myself many times. And she is one of the few things that makes me smile easily. She's such a cute little sweet pea. That's one of her nicknames, my little sweet pea (sometimes she's even in the rain!)

the fact that no matter how bad my life gets, there are people out there hurting more than i do. it motivates me to be grateful for everything i have and to give what i can to help make the world a better place.
