Have not been very active, have been spending lots of time on FaceCrack=Facebook.Amazing business model, chat with ppl you personally know. Do believe I've had about enough of FB though, won't deactivate my account, do realize it is a time sink with no tangible benefit..ie..a Drug Has anyone else come to this realization about Facebook? I don't have FB for this very reason. I don't want to get trapped in this "voyeurism machine" which allows just about anybody to see what's going on in your life. Most people on your friends list you have no real contact with. I mind my own business. I have enough concerns as it is without having to worry about other people's drama. Furthermore, most people on FB brag about their "perfect social life" which in reality is just an illusion. I'm not interested in competing with people I have no interest in to begin with. How one is sucked in is via connecting with old friends and family and ppl in your daily life. Fine and good THEN things begin to run waaay off of the rails IP: Logged |

Yep. At first, it's a great instrument to reconnect with former friends/acquaintances, then it becomes a Pandora's box. It's a can of worms to be quite frank. I keep my distance from social media because sometimes it forces you to deal with individuals you no longer have any interest in. If you wanna connect with friends and family, email/phone/skype. The rest is just trouble. Twitter is fun because it doesn't lure you into documenting your every move. FB is the kiss of death in my opinion. Plus, if you're not over someone, you stalk them. If you're not where are you want to be career-wise/love-wise, you get depressed at the thoughts of your online friends' supposed perfect lives ... It creates more anxiety than thrill in my opinion.

One year ago I left fb for six months. When I came back I spent considerably less time on it. I visit, in no way feel like it's a drug. I have no problems limiting myself. I did before that but not now. LL is a very similar kind of "drug". IP: Logged |

I think the internet in general is addicting, but FB certainly doesn't help matters.IP: Logged |

I like FB. It's fun. I have extended family all over the country and I can share pics and updates with all of them at once easily. I love they can share with me so easily. Even my grandmother is on FB.If I don't want to post or get sucked in then I don't. IP: Logged |

I agree. That's why I left. It is intentionally addictive. When you de-activate they show you photos of people who will "miss you". And when you permenantely delete your account they keep it in the system for another two weeks in case you change your mind and still want to re-activate. It's not easy to get rid of FB once you are on it. I'm glad I deleted my account because I can keep in touch with people in alternate ways - FB seems full of gossip and drama. You should get Instagram Padre! IP: Logged |

Actually I just realised what I said could be misinterpreted. I'm talking about my initial "official" FB account where I had all my family, friends, acquaintances added. That was the "dramatic" account lol I'm not at all talking about the FB account I created more recently when I added a few people from LL and others I know online. Everyone was really nice and I didn't have any issues there, but I ended up deleting it anyway mostly because of my ex. I just think FB and I don't mix. IP: Logged |

I don't really "do" FB much these days, although a couple of years ago I was quite active because I was travelling in the US (I'm British) and enjoyed sharing pics of my trips. I don't like the idea of people you may have known years ago tracking you down and checking out even my profile pic. So I changed it recently to a Chinese symbol representing my name rather than a photo. lol. And obviously set all stuff to private apart from my existing friends. I do very occasionally check out the pages of old flames or "persons of interest" though, I guess we're all a bit voyeuristic deep down. IP: Logged |

Hated FaceCrack (I'm going to start using that word more often lol). There were people that annoyed the heck out of me and the thought of someone stalking my page even if it was private disgusted me. People find ways to see what you're up to through mutuals. Deleted that trash for 2 years. I'm actually considering coming back to it because a club at my uni has a page on there. There's a ceramics event they posted and I had no idea about it until an officer showed me their page. Then again I don't like the idea of people I never talk to anymore befriending me just to see what I'm up to. I am divided.IP: Logged |

Hey that's a good idea! I'm going to use something unrelated to my name to keep "those people" away!

I deactivated my account yesterday. I often go through periods where I want to hide for long periods of time. Especially when I'm upset, I like to grieve in private and because I'm naturally quite expressive, Facebook facilitates this.So... I came off yesterday. Facebook is definitely addictive! IP: Logged |

What amazes me about facecrack is the business model is the users basically supply the content and make them billions.I still enjoy it from time to time but the hours and hours..just no IP: Logged |

Ha! I had to deactivate my account (again) because yes it is very addictive, and people can stress me out. I don't see much drama on my Facebook personally, but sometimes it just becomes too much, so I take a break. People's opinions grate on my nerves sometimes, and that's when it's time to step away from whatever it is. So guess where I'm spending my internet time now?

I'll add that I believe most things can be like drugs to people. Video games, television, social media, whatever. Food, sex, anything is unhealthy if it's used to distract ourselves from our reality. Also, I personally find this hilarious. The Oatmeal brings you...FaceSpace. http://theoatmeal.com/facespace

The unique thing about FB and this has not been mentioned isFB stalking and a sort of FB politics. -FB stalking, going through this atm with a massively out of balance Libra. To the point she was banned from a private group that I remained a member of..she hit all the admins up and got just plain weird with them. They asked me about it..had no idea she'd done it. -FB politics, if someone argues with someone else, or there is a split, of course you should then unfollow etc, or follow, b/c of your friend/interest did the same. PPL take that stuff waaaaay to seriously IP: Logged |

LOL, maybe we just have boring friends? I really do not spend too much time on facebook, but the people I'm friends with aren't extremely drama prone or excessively attention seeking. I'm so bad about it though- months will go by and I will seriously forget to log in. But when you do come back, we must be friends. IP: Logged |
