There is an exact conjunction between my Ceres and his Jupiter (I'm talking 0'00), and his Ceres is conjunct my Saturn/Uranus and opposite my Venus, weird, what could this mean? Ceres mystifies me in regards to synastry...

I love Ceres personally. I've looked into it over the past few years. I'd say the vibe is like a mix of Moon and Jupiter. Moon - because Ceres is connected to affection/nurture. Jupiter because it is so often positive. The more negative "clingy" or "depressive" traits of the Moon are not present.

The very close conjunction between your Ceres and his Jupiter is an awesome aspect. You feel comfortable around him - This aspect makes it easy to trust each other. I think he's likely to look out for you and always have your best interests in mind. In the Persephone/Pluto/Ceres myth - Jupiter helps Ceres get her daughter back.

How close is the second aspect?

Well, Jupiter actually first turned a blind eye (full of understanding for Pluto`s desire out of his own background), and only when Ceres wouldn`t stop moaning, he helped her. so much for Jupiter`s selfless generosity in myth.

Yeah Jupiter was definitely a bad boy, lol! Poor Juno had to deal with a lot. But that sounds pretty spot on Betty, do you know any good sites that can tell me more about Ceres?

I read somewhere that ANY aspect with Ceres in synastry is supposed to be a good thing (square, opposition or otherwise).

the nurturing asteroid!!

What Betty Boop has said sounds about right for me as well.. nurturing but no matter what it seems positive (hence the aspect it makes doesn't seem to matter).

I have very fond feelings for someone who's NN exactly opposes my Ceres. I don't know how it feels for him though, being the SN person.

Ceres might have a Plutonian vibe about
letting go is a also Ceres theme

think of the Demeter/Ceres and Persephone/Proserpina

Ceres/Demeter had to let go of Persephone/Proserpina to be the wife of Hades/Pluto

the empty nest syndrome

the parent realizing that the child has become an adult

Persephone/Proserpina is about girl transitioning into a woman.

There is also a possibility that Ceres traveled from the Kuiper Belt and that Pluto and Ceres could have been one object at one time.

my exgf Meghann had Venus square Ceres, and my Ceres formed a t-square with that.

She couldn't let go of her mom ,and her mom couldn't let go of her. She kept our relationship a secret because of her mom's issues with men. She wanted to wait until she got situated with her career/location stuff.
When she told her mother the truth about me, her mom was angry with her for lying to her. She couldn't be happy for her daughter finding love. She was only thinking of her pain. That was pretty much the beginning of the end. She ended the relationship because of her mother.

I think both interpretations are within of the range of expression of Ceres.

her nurturing, caring, protective side can make it nearly impossible to let go of the beloved.

For synastry this probably means that the Ceres person cares very much for the other person, but that sooner or later she may experience some feeling of "loss", like the other doesn`t want exactly the same dose of closeness as she does.

Sorry to hear about that Raymond.. hard lesson to go through

I've never thought of squares in synastry as BAD (well actually if most aspects are squares .. that is in fact quite difficult) in fact I find that they can be magnetic (create interest) but there can be hard lessons to go through.

I've never felt the squares with ASTEROIDS in synastry to be particularly malevolent ... but then again that is my experience, and I hold squares to have more power (as asteroids are subtle nuances to the whole synastry mix) as well as oppositions and conjunctions, than say trines. Again, only talking about asteroid contacts. And again, only my experience.. others may think differently
However I also think with Eros/Psyche for example ... a trine would be better than a square.. if within a degree or so. It's really hard to explain what I mean! But any strong contact within a degree with an asteroid (as it is only a subtle influence) will boost that connection.

Ceres is no typical asteroid though as I already pointed out.

At 950 km in diameter, it is by far the largest asteroid. Because of that, it's the only asteroid classed as a dwarf planet.

It's composition suggests that it may come from the kuiper belt and may have been physically connected to Pluto.

Ceres is in the same rank as Pluto,Eris,Makemake, and Haumea. All 5 of those objects are classed as dwarf planets.

More transneptunians will join that class. Definitely Sedna and Orcus will. Both of them are larger than Ceres.

What do you think of squares and oppositions with asteroids.
For example, it there was ,in synastry, a Valentine square Valentine?

I am not sure

I don't think that they would have much influence. They are more like finetuners.

I think the major asteroids (Ceres,Pallas,Juno, and Vesta) are a different story including especially dwarf planet Ceres.

I'd also check out Hygeia. It's the 4th largest asteroid, and it pertains to health matters.

I'd ask IQ and DD. They seem like the main asteroid experts.

I am more and more into the 21st Century transneptunian objects these days.

Since astro.com doesn't show any aspects to Ceres (at least for my placement), and I'm sure there's at least ONE, I have a question for Glaucus, since he's the expert on dwarf planets, and it regards permitted orbs for aspects to Ceres...Can you help?

DD -

quote:
her nurturing, caring, protective side can make it nearly impossible to let go of the beloved.

I don't really see this in practice.
I can see why it would make sense in theory.
But I find the Ceres vibe just supportive and caring.

I find the Moon "clingy" and never wanting to let go.

When Ceres wanted her daughter back from the underworld - it wasn't necessarily because she couldn't let go of her.
She may have just wanted the best for her daughter and for her to have a life *outside* the underworld and *outside* Pluto's control.

But - even if Ceres had a clingy side - Maybe it only plays out in parent-child relationships. I haven't experienced this side of Ceres in romantic synastry.

Glaucus, I don't really see Ceres as intense in a Plutonian way. Ceres and Pluto were very much at odds in myth and seem like very different characters to me. They also seem different in synastry.
As someone else said - Ceres just feels sweet to me!

I've been thinking about how Ceres might play out in my synastry with others, but I'm not sure how it plays out for me, natally.

I have it conjunct my Mercury/Chiron/Sun - it's closer to my Chiron/Sun than my Merc, and they're all in the 6th house. It's also widely opposed Uranus. With Ceres being seen as something like the Moon, Venus and Jupiter rolled into one, you would think that would off-set Chiron conjunct my Sun, in a more positive way, wouldn't you? I can also see how it would come out as my wanting to help children/teenagers with anxiety issues, in the hopes that it wouldn't carry through to their adulthood (as mine ended up doing, due to my not taking certain steps).

I can also see that reflecting in the total self-confidence I had when I was small - totally happy in myself and the world, talking to anyone, a good big sister - a little bossy, but never wanting to take advantage of my being the older one, etc. My Aries planets are in her first house, and we were very close when we were small, until someone stepped in and helped to cause problems between us. Even then, we've always been close when it counts.

*edit. I keep forgetting about the loss associated with Ceres... if that's the case, it could add to, not off-set, Chiron.

Betty,

no, I haven`t seen this side in practice either. I was just speaking theoretically. But according to the myth it was a mixed reaction of wanting the best for Persephone and thinking s he knew what was best for her daughter, thus kinda imposing her wishes on her, too.

But you are right I have yet so see this in synastry.
Having said that if Pluto and Proserpina and Ceres are involved in an aspect, the issue of surrendering and even loss may be more prominent than if we look at Ceres alone.
She was not only mother of Proserpina alone, but was the earth goddess, nurturing to the whole world.
Maybe that is the theme we generally experience with her. The nurturing part in general.

from the link I posted above:

quote:
Perhaps the easiest way to understand the four major asteroids is by the unique relationship patterns that they codify.
Ceres is the Great Mother asteroid, and is correlated to the parent-child relationship. She is the caretaker, nurturer, and ruler of major life cycles including life and death.
Pallas is associated with the father-daughter relationship, and in a broader sense symbolizes the favorite child who through her intelligence and wisdom supports the corporate and political state. In the simplest terms, Ceres is the mother and Pallas is the daughter.
Juno represents the wife-husband relationship. Major transits and progressions involving Juno are critical timers to forming, altering, or ending committed relationships. When this asteroid is used, Venus becomes better understood as a love planet that is more interested in sex and intimacy than commitment.
Vesta is the sister relationship, and she indicates devotion to an altruistic or sacred cause. Most commonly, a prominent Vesta shows a workaholic, but she is also an indicator for personal independence and integration, and therefore challenges personal relationships. Juno is the wife, and Vesta is the sister.
Men who are in tune with their feminine halves may express the inherent qualities of asteroids directly. This is especially true when the asteroid is closely aspecting the Ascendant or Sun. More often than not, the asteroids represent women in the men's lives. A prominent Ceres, Pallas, Juno or Vesta may be a man's actual mother, daughter, wife or sister, so that when one of these asteroids is activated, that person will show up in the native's life.
Women with an asteroid angular (conjunct or opposite the Ascendant, or conjunct or opposite the Midheaven) or in close aspect to the Sun tend to personify this asteroid very directly. (Angelina Jolie has Ceres on MC!!) The best way to see how any one of these asteroids works in the real world is to watch the individual who has the asteroid prominently placed, or to watch what happens when the asteroid is suddenly hit by a major progression or outer planet transit.

I have some Ceres synastry with a friend (his moon conjuncts my Ceres, 2 degrees) and his Ceres conjuncts my Asc and one of the main characteristics of the friendship is emotional nurturing. there's a lot of trust, openness, and all around warm-fuzziness. i like this aspect a lot.
