mmm... Here is something else about Nessus (This time quoted from Nick Anthony Fiorenza www.lunarplanner.com. "Nessus inspires our need to radically sever from the conformity of the past and pierce our veils of illusion, to relinquish our denials, and to enter new realms of vision and creativity.
Considering its orbital crossing with its grandfather Ixion, we might have a theme associated with tyranny and sexual abuse, with suppression and denial issues (Ixion). However, since Nessus reaches out to the orbits of Neptune and Orcus (in the confluence of these orbits)--and synthesizes with these orbital resonances, Nessus would seem to aid in dissolving such issues into a greater universal awareness (Neptune) while at the same time inspiring a perspective from the incarnational purpose of the soul (Orcus)--thus helping to place such experience into the greater context of the soul's incarnational process of growth.
Melanie Reinhart relates Nessus to issues surrounding sexuality, death, revenge and jealousy. Although Nessus may appear to have a disrespect for morality, a bit on the wild side, it also seems to teach us about embracing our sensual and sexual nature, to enjoy this abundance in life, rather than denying it or shutting ourselves down to it due to righteous or erroneous beliefs of wrongfulness or emotions of unworthiness."
Just to add to that ... in some scholars opinion, whilst Nessus definitely desired Dejanira, there is a question about whether he actually raped her or not. Some say he fell in love with her and tried to kidnap her (and MAYBE she was complicit in this too? Maybe there was a side to Dejanira that was tempted by his "animal" sexuality?). After all why was Dejanira so willing to jump in the boat alone with Nessus in the first place ? She raised no objection when Heracles left them alone together whilst he was distracted by his own heroics in swimming the fast flowing river, even though she must have known that Nessus, being a centaur, was a strongly sexual creature.
