*side note

My old website enabled the owner to see exactly who checked into their website (IP) and every move they made on it, every page they clicked on, how long they were on it etc, etc. It displayed what browser they were using. It had a map that could be zoomed in on down to exactly what street they lived on and a very close proximity to their actual house. (on the website owner's control panel)

I later had another website that did the same and more. So, i've always figured at least the owner of a site could most likely see the same. It might be different on this board since the set up hasnt changed in years and is pretty ancient. But I'm sure at least the owner can see quite a bit on his end.

If there's a way to also find out someone's phone number thru that info, I would not be surprised and I would be uncomfortable. I have not looked into it because I never cared to. And I'd like to know if that is the case.

Point is, I was getting a lot of crank calls/hang-ups for awhile at home and on cell. They'd listen to me say hello and then hang up.

No one who has my phone numbers would do that to me. It's a very creepy thing. So I want to know how much info you have access to here.

Mods and myself can check IPs, and that's it. We can then trace an IP to a general area (city/country).

I meant, for example, when a person gets a call like the current one circulating where a message is left that claims legal action is being taken against a person. People can google the number and see it is a scam by the other people so scammed who posted on the Net.

And if people are calling you and hanging up, maybe you should report it to the authorities.

I know about that part (as I mentioned) because I used to Mod here.

The calls have stopped, but were going on for awhile and it was getting annoying. I would have reported it to authorities if they continued much longer.

I recently received a message from this number: 774-221-8770. It didn't fool me, because I know any court action must be officially served. But many people would be scared into paying them money to "settle." It is more difficult for scammers nowadays due to being able to Google the phone numbers.

I have been assimilated into the iPhone family. Resistance was futile.

Even some Borg Drones resist in silence (see Voyager: Unimatrix Zero).

Me, Still on iOS 5.1.whatever ... only got the iPhone 4, and I've had... previous experiences of upgrading too far (3G didn't like whatever it's last iOS available was and got to the point it nearly had a ... kinetic wall accident. I eventually upgraded).

I will say, from what I've seen on friend's phones, Siri leaves a lot to be desired for me. It's like the Enterprise-D's ship's computer but with the intelligence of a 3 year old child. It would understand but still not do what was asked of it lol...

Ensign Kim apparently (I vaguely remember the scene where she asks him if he wished to copulate).

Chahldean:

While we play with our Apps and lose the ability to spell and read via texting, we pay for "roll over minutes" while actually paying for invisible prisons.

People talk about our decline in education in the U.S. [ we are currently 17 globally ]
math & science are worse.

Fingers are pointed at who and what share the most blame.

I blame the cell phone. Every kid over 7 has one. They need the protection of instant communication.

B.S.

Because of cell phone addiction, reading actual books has atrophied.

The reading I see is on TMZ & Twitter.

Deep Space Nine all the way. Janeway made me nuts. Sisko, Kirk, probably even Picard would have gotten those poor basstards home by the end of season one.

Yeah, DSN was pretty awesome. And Janeway did get them home eventually.
