As usual with the daily mail take their articles with a pinch of salt.

it's sad enough that the woman spent her life alone, now this?

other texts of the time showed that her caretakers as a child, were horrible people, but the details of the stories show that she was definitely female....

Ha! Interesting.

Sounds like it would have been incredible to pull this off, what with there being so many attendants to royalty, etc. I thought this comment someone made at that page was considerate of all the ways it is implausible:

"This is not a new theory. It was a documentary about it a few months ago and it was shown to be utter rubbish. The legend itself is not new and is just to sell tickets at the house. Henry would have noticed had his daughter not been a daughter as would those around her. Her every private movement was commented on and there were no secrets about the body or the bodily functions of the Tudors. She would have been unable to conceal the fact that she was a man and her servants would have whispered about it: even had they sworn secrecy. Cecil had her spied on and her bleeding reported on to see if she could have a chid: she could not even go to the loo without her movements being made public. Her doctors would also have noticed had she not been a woman. Just because she was a strong leader does not mean she was not a woman. Utter rubbish: but not a new theory. Sorry"

But, all the strange comments "she" is recorded as having made, about having the mind of a king, and her being sworn to not marry, etc. is indeed peculiar. And the stories of there being some secret kept, through the ages. And those portraits do seem mannish. ...Maybe the hermaphrodite angle has legs?

Well if they exhume the remains and study/test them;
then there should be some answers.

The attendants are the giveaway, good one Jovian

She didn't even get dressed by herself. How many people do you think would not tell a soul having witnessed her being a he?

Far more believable are the rumours that she had a child with Robert Dudley, and those have never been proved either.

And JFT is so right about the Mail...though there are rumours they get something right once a year. Still, exhumation might answer both questions once and for all

from an article about forensics

The pelvis area is another good way of differentiating between the sexes. A female will have a larger sub-pubic angle to that of a man and this is obviously indicative of child bearing requirements in the female that are not required in the male of the species. This difference is noticeable across all species in nature where birth is from the womb. The male's sub-pubic area is less than ninety degrees whilst the female's is more.

The area around the pelvic inlet (in the middle of the pelvic bone) is larger in females than in men again with relevance to child bearing. The skeleton of a female who has given birth will be identifiable by the fact that this space will have widened upon the birth of a child and although it will contract it will not contract fully back to its original size.

This is a little off topic but I don't want to start a thread.
It involves queen Victoria she is known to have passed on hemophilia to her off springs. Hemophilia is a heretitary disease. But there is no record of hemophilia in her bloodlines, so where did hemophilia come from?

that won't do it as there must be a sign of the disease. marrying your cousin doesn't create hemophilia .

quote:
Hemophilia A, also called factor VIII (FVIII) deficiency or classic hemophilia, is a genetic disorder caused by missing or defective factor VIII, a clotting protein. Although it is passed down from parents to children, about 1/3 of cases are caused by a spontaneous mutation, a change in a gene.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, hemophilia occurs in approximately 1 in 5,000 live births. There are about 20,000 people with hemophilia in the US. All races and ethnic groups are affected. Hemophilia A is four times as common as hemophilia B while more than half of patients with hemophilia A have the severe form of hemophilia.

Not for mere vanity alone;
but more because of the severe smallpox scarring.
