This might sound a bit odd, but has anyone ever tried rubbing some good moisturizer lightly onto their hair instead of using hairspray or gel to keep the hair in place? I was looking at my Aveeno moisturizer after I noticed that I was running out of hair gel. I don't use globs of gel or anything, but enough to make sure my hair doesn't fly away. So I applied some of the Aveeno on my hair and it works just as well, but I don't know if it would damage my hair's health or anything like that in the future.

Has anyone tried this?

hi.

desperate times call for desperate measures!
i've tried it! but it just made my hair really oily. i guess if you have short hair it works a LOT better.

i really don't think it will damage your hair. i normally cover my hair with the stuff when i go sun tanning. it protects your hair from the sun. i used to mix a bit with water, and use it as leave-in conditioner. that works really well too.

so i think its ok! and believe me, it isn't strange! mmmm. i dont think it is?

My best friend used to put conditioner, just regular conditioner in her hair to make it stay when she was styling her hair. Also I have read in magazines that people with really dry hair will put regular lotion in their hair sometimes, so I dont see why it would hurt.

I tried it once also and it just made my hair unbearably oily.

For sure, us curly headed lasses....
I put hand cream on, and if I have any excess, I will run my hand gently over my hair to seal those frizzies.

Awesome! Thanks you guys. Now that I think about it, I guess it doesn't sound THAT strange...I was just worried that maybe the moisturizer would turn my hair gray or something like that lol.

You're right though about the oil. I got that too. I'll just be careful. Aveeno is pretty good about it and it smells nice too!

Ok goodie......I've been meaning to ask Miss Pixie what product she uses to keep the wet-shine. I have very similar hair, after shampooing while still wet I'll put some of Paul Mitchells "The Conditioner" in and leave to dry, keeps the ringlets without flyaways..............but I've been seeing alot of curly heads with the "wet" look ................so Miss Pixie, what'cha been using hun? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I use a good deep conditioner probably more than I should.. and only comb in the shower, with conditioner soaking on my hair.. I get the tangles out that way. I briefly wrap a towel on my head, so it isn't dripping, (while I moisturise the face and bod- keeping as much water on my skin as I moisturise as possible) and then the most important step is the silicone sealer, before styling... and I usually use a curl enhancing shine mousse, and let it air dry. The silicone sealer closes the cuticle and lets the hair reflect light well.. it reduces puffiness and keeps the curls looking lustrous, and reflecting the light all throughout the strand ( that's the problem with curls, the light makes them appear dull.. all the shadows) then you have those loverly frizzes.

Does anyone know how to strengthen your hair internally? (apart from eating right of course).

My hair goes through thick and thin phases according to the time of year and at the moment due to quite a lot of stress I've been going through lately, its been feeling kinda thin. I've been taking multivitamin, Vit E, and Biotin, becuase I've heard thats good for the hair. And drinking gallons of green tea too for the antioxidants.

I;ve heard you could get Iron on prescription if its really bad - has anyone else heard this?

(<= I want my hair like this!)

Biotin and B's are a must but so is iron. Check your iron and iodine levels too.

Even though I have really dry hair, if I don't wash it everyday, it gets really oily on top. Like, I did that last night, I skipped washing my hair, and today I felt really icky even though it wasn't that oily. But on weekends, if I stay home, I usually don't wash it.

mine too they say and it does work that when you condition comb it all the way through so your oil frm the top also goes to the ends of your hair. Its why our ends are dry and in florida they use alot of chemicals in water and humidity too.

Everlong~ Can you try washing the scalp with a mild sudsing shampoo, *neutral pH, mild detergent action.... or with tea tree....* and not putting shampoo on the rest of the hair.. just massage your scalp, and rinse. Then condition the ends only, not the scalp.
There are specific fornmulas now on the retail market which are meant for oily scalp, dry ends.. so it must be common.

to moonstar77, sometimes we learn by experimentation (is that a word?) anyway,IMHO its all in the ingredients, it does not matter if the label reads conditioner, hand lotion, or butt cream if its full of lovely plant-based oils such as avacado, olive, jojoba,(the list is endless) and not mineral-based such as parrifin or petroleum, you know its gonna be nice for hair and skin. i once had some aveeno lotion, it contains colloidal oatmeal (finely ground) which can be soothing to dry and itchy skin. anyway, i believe my point may have been that we can educate ourselves on the uses and advantages of natural ingredients and find some wonderful alternatives to alot of the crap out there. im a hairdresser by trade and ive just recently started researching ingredients to make my own hair and body care products if anyone out there has a cool recipe for natural (no chemical preservatives, etc.) shampoos etc. i would be overjoyed with gratitude. ciao, folks, h.c.

Yeah, I know what you mean archangel. During the hurricanes my hair was such a mess from all of the freaking humidity. It was incredible. I didn't know they used a lot of chemicals here. Although I do remember a year ago when a kid from my school filled up a bottle of water with water from the water fountain and put it next to a bottle of fresh bottled spring water. Wow, made the tap water look not so pretty.

Pixelpixie, I've never heard of that, but it sounds like a great idea, I'll look for it next time I'm in a store .

What, butt cream?
Funny enough, there is a product called "Zim's Crack Creme" and I used to joke that it didn't take my crack away after I rubbed it on my bum.
