Don't know Bluemoon, but keep me posted. I'm only a couple of years behind you!
I've been accused of having perimentalpausel symptoms, but they only lasted two weeks.

I am going off of premerin, so the Hot FLashes are Horrible. I had a total hystorectomy about 3 years ago. I just dont want to take the D*mn estrogen. I already have breast cancer in my family. maybe that is why I had the title of cancer.

There is a kinder gentler way. You can get micronized soy that is considered bio-identical....and considered a natural alternative. You have to have it prescribed and it is difficult to find a doctor or nurse practitioner that is knowledgable about it--but not impossible. I have found the nurse practitioners better than doctors. It had to be obtained from a compounding pharmacy. It is covered by some insurance but not all. And the gel that is "transdermal" (applied topically) is best because it doesn't go through your digestive tract. This has been recommended by Dr. Andrew Weil and others into natural remedies or alternatives. I had to experiment with the different types of estrogen and progesterone. For my needs just the estradiol works. But the nurse practioner said I really need to use some progesterone with it.

Thanks Wildflowers! I really want to say away from the estorgen. I have been on it for too long and I am concerned about breast cancer since it runs it the family. I will look in to it. I know a good nurse parctioner.

I think perhaps I should explain more fully that Estrogen ( Estradiol ) and Progesterone fully target these organs:

UTERUS
VAGINA
BREASTS
BONES
KIDNEYS
LIVER
FALLOPIAN TUBES
OVARIES

Estrogen can also elevate blood sugar in certain individuals whilst progesterone can increase the apetite and calm the nervous system. There are times when people think the need more Estrogen when they in fact have Estrogen dominance. At least three luteal defect patterns can lead to Estrogen dominance. Please ask your doctor for a expanded female hormone panel because it not only reveals your individual hormone imbalance, but indicates the basis of it.

I like DIAGNOS TECHS INC. They do great test kits by post. go to www.diagnostechs.com for more info. I use a yam cream by the way and it's great.

Thanks so much, Gia! I really appreciate your input. I haven't got any female organs left. (well I do still have breast)lol. I have been throught some many surgerys I don't don't even want to get into it.
my concern, besides the menapause systoms, is the association of premerin and breast cancer. Thanks again!!!!!

I understand that but with artificial menopause if surgery is done before natural menopause, it can be quite different to the normal cycle. Please note not all hot flushes are due to estrogen depletion. They involve what we call the neuroendocrine system. Stress can cause them, hyperthyroidisim can cause them, diabetes can cause them, as well as alcohol. I think it's useful to know the level of your hormones before we can verify the best treatment. Which you may of course already know.

Here are a couple of alternatives to discuss with your doctor or endocrine specialist.

Non Hormonal

There is a medication which is non hormonal called Dixitrit. It reduces hot flushes as it's a blood vessel constrictor. Not good if you are depressed or taking depression medications.

I prefer and I use myself, a natural progesterone cream from wild yam. PROGEST. Natural progesterone is not the same as synthetic progesterone. The body can both understand and use it naturally because it's what we call a precursor molecule that can be naturally converted in the body to andgrogens. It really does work well to alleviate menopausal symptoms. It is better than soy and in my humble opinion much safer.

Supplements

Vitamin E natural form of course normally around 400 IU twice a day. Please make sure you take enough calcium and magnesium because lack of estrogen stops your body from absorbing enough. Essential fatty acids such as Primrose helps manufacture natural estrogens. Potassium to help heat and sweat control.

Herbs

Vitex Agnus Casti Berry available as a tincture from health stores. Black Cohosh, fennel and fenugreek. Do not use ant products containg sage if you have seizures of any kind.

MENOCOM is a good herbal menopause complex. It contains all the herbs, vitamins and minerals you need.

Please let me know how you get on as it helps others who may have similar symptoms.
