My father called me today and left a message...he sounded like was breaking down again.He said he thought about committing suicide. Fortunately he called his psychiatrist and she called out to see him.
I said to him I was so glad that he was able to ask for help, something he couldnt do before. He said he also called a help line called crisis...
He then went on to say that no one cared around where he lived. I tried to explain that people were sometimes frightened and at times ill equiped to deal with other peoples' mental problems. He just didnt get this. He said "well there are programmes on the tv about it". I explained that sometimes people feared it would bring up their own feelings...he still didnt get this. He really expects people to rally around and help him. I told him that I had found myself on my own a lot in the past and that is why I prayed a lot, without it, probably wouldnt have got through.
He is a vey complex and tortured soul but I think its fantastic that he can ask for help and take it. He is nearing 80 and it cant be easy for him.
I am going to stay with him for a few days next week...please pray for him...
And me....I shall need it...
