Hi everyone

My skin is very sensitive. I can't wear makeup everyday. What really hurts is when I remove my makeup. All the rubbing breaks my skin. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove your makeup. Also I use a waterproof mascara maybelline because I curl my eyelashes and usually the ones who are not waterproof makes them straight again. So any suggestions on a good mascara even if it's not waterproof that will help.

Thanks

PS. My computer at home is not set up so I check my emails at the library periodically, it might take me awhile to answer--but waiting for a response!

I use Bad Gal by Benefit. It makes your lashes look almost fake and they stay curled all day.
As for a makeup remover that is gentile, try putting a descent amount of Vaseline on a cotton ball to gently rub away makeup.
I just bought eye makeup remover from Cover Girl, it works good but it feels greasy. It comes right off though, no rubbing needed!

Hope this helped!

All I do is wash my face with Neutrogena cream cleanser. It's non-perfumed and supposed to be ok for sensitive skin, and I never have any trouble with it getting my makeup off. I admit it doesn't take off my Revlon Colorstay eyeliner very well though. Revlon apparently does make a remover for that, but I just use rosehip oil to wipe it off - and now I actually use coconut oil, just with my hands and maybe a cotton tip if I need to. It still doesn't take off all of the eyeliner until I have another wash in the shower the next morning but that doesn't bother me.

I've heard that Maybelline Great Lash is one of the best ones out there. I'm not sure how it works on curled eyelashes though. The Revlon 'Lash Fantasy' mascara didn't remove my curl (I use an eyelash curler too), but I use Clarins now. It doesn't make them as curly but it has a nicer consistency than the Revlon one.

YSL Faux Cil mascara is a very nice one, but expensive.

I should probably get myself an eye makeup remover... gee I'm lazy... lol

Baby wipes work well for removing makeup. more so on the skin than on the eyes.

Make-up Remover:
Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser - This is the best face cleaner for any type of skin, and as a bonus it is really affordable. You can get it at any drug store and most grocers. Target makes their own generic of it, as well. If you break out often, there is an oily skin formula. About $8.

When you remove makeup, use only the two middle fingers on your hand. Use tepid water - not too hot or too cold so your skin is less stressed. Pat a little water onto your face, rub Cetaphil on gently and then wash off using your fingers. If a little Cetaphil remains, it's okay as it makes a great moisturizer.

Mascara:

Rimmel Extra Super Lash with Curved Wand - They sell the same mascara with a straight wand, so be sure to get the "curved" version! If you get a newspaper, check the coupon section for Rimmel coupons as they are pretty common. About $5.

Maybelline Lash Discovery with Curved Brush - If you like Maybelline, it's definitely worth a try! Again, look for coupons as they are frequent. About $7.

Ettusais Hyper Curl EX - This one may be your best bet if curl is your top priority. It was formulated to give curl to notoriously straight Asian lashes. Ettusais is a sub-brand of Shiseido, so you can buy it wherever Shiseido is sold. About $25.

Kevyn Aucoin's Curling Formula - I haven't tried this one yet, but it's on my list. I've had very good luck with KA products and I've heard very good things about the curl and lightweight feeling from a few friends who use it. About $25.

Good luck!

Have you ever heard of Burt's Bees products? They're amazing! Soap Bark and Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream

When I can't fit all natural creams/products like these into our budget, some regular old Pond's Cold Cream works really well to remove all make up. Just rub in and remove with cotton balls. And then I use my regular face soap, toner and moisturizer (currently testing out Clinique but am thinking seriously of going back to Burt's Bees and probably will once these are used up).

Hi
I can't send my post it doesn't work
Ok I got it now

Hi everyone

I was just testing (my Hi) Yesterday night I was so excited to come to Lindaland to finally write back! But the lady at the library closed early and rushed me. What happened is I finished my message and submitted the reply but it didn't work. I went back and my message was deleted

WOW thanks for all your responses!

First I want to say that I'm from Montreal and maybe they don't sell some products here.
I like to wear natural products on my face, I'm scared if the product I use has harsh chemicals. I've tried alot of makeup removers but they actually never remove my makeup completely and I'm scared if the residue will harm my skin. I tried also Landers oil it's like baby oil, it removes my mascara well but after many uses I found it burnt my skin a bit. What I would fall back on was cold pressed oil usually safflower, but it doesn't remove the mascara well, it takes too long and I end up rubbing my eyes alot even though I try hard not to, which breaks my skin. I try letting my
eyelashes soak so I'm there for like 15 minutes. Sometimes I would use olive oil because it's a bit healthy.

Hi babeefoxx
I am scared to use the mascaras that curl your lashes it makes me wonder what chemicals they use to curl them. Like a miniature permanent. Aren't you scared?
I've tried vaseline once or twice but it doesn't spread on my skin, I don't know how you do it.
Cover Girl that might be a good idea, I haven't tried it yet.

it's not posting in one box so I'll try in two

Hi Motherkonfessor
That's an interesting name I'd like to know more about it sometime.
LUSH I've heard of it, I think they sell it here. (All their skin stuff has helped me immensely) which company do you mean LUSH or Ultrabland?

Hi GeminiLover75
You see I would be scared to have some makeup left on my skin.
Maybelline Great Lash is that the pink one? If it is alot of people recommend it, I've tried it a couple of times but it staightens my lashes after curling them and it makes them thin also.
Clarins Oh Okay. You're talking about Yves Saint Laurent right? I don't mind
spending alot, what's expensive is when you have to try so many products, to find what you need.

Hi nattie33
Baby wipes, yes I was thinking about that, when I would go to a pharmacie or makeup counter they often used it and it worked well. Before I tried those little round pads but I never liked them. You know
what I did, after trying so many expensive products- makeup and removers- just a couple of days ago I was at the $1 dollar store and I decided to try some baby wipes made for removing makeup it also had vitamin E.
I also bought a mascara. So yesterday I had worn my makeup since Sunday (I kept it on all night) because I wore makeup also on Saturday and if I removed my makeup again it would damage and hurt my skin too
much and I had an important appointment Monday. I do that sometimes and my makeup looks really nice the next day. So Monday night came, I used the Landers oil plus the
baby wipes and I put some water on my little pads, and at the end the toilet paper (not to much because it's like sandpaper) to make sure it was all off properly. It was definitly an improvement, 80%, but right now my skin is hurting. I couldn't wear makeup today.

Hi Astralmuse
Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser: A makeup sales lady recommended it to me once but I
never tried it, since you like it so much I will try it as soon as I can. What I usually do is I rub my lashes gently to remove the mascara, but the mascara is removing all my lashes too
I don't need curls that much I just don't want them to staighten out after. Thanks for all that information.

Hi Eleonore
Burt's Bees: Yes I think I have, I seen it at the health food store I think? Tell me a bit more about the products you like from them. Don't the cotton balls leave alot of cotton on your lashes?

This was very helpful!
Thanks
Lets talk some more

Hello again, guess. I've tried a few and I like them all. We used the Baby Bee products when our son was born and they were just wonderful, especially the diaper cream. I've used/use their deoderant, lip balm, lip shimmers, Res Q ointment, hand salve, avocado butter pre-shampoo treatment, coconut foot creme, marshmallow vanishing creme, evening primrose overnight creme, and the cleanser I linked before. What can I say? I'm addicted to Burt's, lol. They're best products I've ever used and if I could use them all consistently I'd be very pleased. Honestly we haven't bought too much of them since we moved to Japan but I'm thinking Christmas looks like a good time to renew our supplies.

And no, the cotton balls with the cold cream don't leave any fibers at all. I used to use them with baby oil and they didn't leave any then, either, but I didn't like the way the oil felt on my skin after. Pond's is nice because if you wash afterwards you don't get any oily residue feeling which may be bothersome. Otherwise, some people just leave it alone after cleansing for the moisurizing effect but I prefer to use another moisurizer. You could also use cotton pads which are less likely to tear if you're concerned. And for removing other eye make, like stubborn eye liner, Q tips work well, too. Just always be very gentle around your eyes.

Maby physicians formula makes a better makeup remover. I heard there makeup was better for sensitive skin. I have tried their powder's and concealer. It does seem easier on the skin. www.physiciansformula.com . Also for sensitive skin. www.aveeno.com

Physicians Formula products contain sodium lauryl sulfate, camphor, menthol, coloring agents, and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, all of which cause irritation and sensitivity.

Burt's Bees products do not contain preservatives or synthetics. They are one of the very few "natural" companies to follow-through on their claims of no preservatives or synthetics! However, they do use a few natural ingredients that can cause irritation and/or sensitivity: orange oil, cinnamon oil, clove oil, lemon oil, orange peel, eucalyptus oil, pine tar, alcohol, lime oil, and balsam peru. Just be wary of those. I personally like a few of their products and the prices are very good!

I don't use Cetaphil for removing mascara. I use a Pond's Remover Towellete for that and I let it soak on my eyelashes for a few minutes before trying to remove anything.

I've been told that Johnson's baby shampoo ("no more tears") is good for removing eye makeup. You dilute a TINY bit of it in a basin of lukewarm water, and then use cotton balls to gently wipe off your eye makeup. I tried it once and didn't think it was grea, but as I said, I use the Revlon Colorstay eyeliner - so it takes more effort to get it off.

Does Neutrogena make an eye makeup remover? I use their gentle cream cleanser for my face and it's very good... my skin tends to be on the sensitive side, and I have to be careful not to use stuff that will dry my skin out or give me red spots, and I find that Neutrogena is very good. I've also used Cetaphil and liked it, but as I got older I've found that it seems to be *slightly* drying - that's why I like Neutrogena now instead.

Hi everyone sorry for the delay. All the computers were booked Monday. I hope to answer back more quickly in the future.

Hi Eleonora how are you?
Marshmellow vanishing cream? That's sounds interesting, what actually vanishes? I would get addicted to them too. I'm the same with healthfood products, I use to go to the healthfood store and could have bought the whole store, they have such interesting products!!
You moved to Japan WOW that must be an experience!
The Ponds Cold Cream; I know my mother use to use it alot, I don't know if she used it to remove her makeup. But she wore makeup every single day of her life. And I can't seem to wear it at all.
(Am I creating this reality with my words, I'm scared I am...
I can wear makeup everyday
I can wear makeup everyday
I can wear makeup everyday...
Ok now sit down in the phychiatrists office and tell me when it all started...
Ok well when I was young once, my friend told me--MAKEUP ISN'T GOOD FOR YOU--HUH WHAT!!!!!
Ponds cold cream yes- I did buy it once but used it as a cream only I felt it left some cream maybe a bit too oily, and I was scared my skin would sag after many uses, I will consider it as a remover though. You see I never where makeup and I put cream only once a week or twice the most. I am 45!!! If you're younger your skin might be more durable I guess, and stronger. But I look very young
I always try to be as gentle as possible with my skin.
Clinique I tried, they say they test it on about 600 people and if it even irritates one they change it. But I have tried one foundation on my chest I used it about 2-3 times a week for a couple of months and it burnt my skin. So it's pretty strong. But the finish was soooo beautiful.

nattie33
Aveeno I have to buy, I find that it works very well to clean my face in the sense of when my face already has no makeup and I put some on it, it cleans it even more.
Physiciansformula thanks I'll see, I know I tried some makeup that is for sensitive skin(tried at the store, I never bought) but it didn't seem to spread too well and for me that would hurt. I'll see if it was this brand.

All this information will definitly help, I'll print it out and keep it. I just don't understand why I'm having all this problem. I think when I was in high school, at that time I wore makeup every day, I think I used baby oil and simply washed my face with soap. But now it's probably my mascara which is impossible to remove that's damaging my skin.

Astralmuse
Hi, physiciansformula: it does have all those chemicals! Oh thanks for telling me. But I would have sensed it anyway, but at least I wouldn't have to buy it and then return it. Unfortunately I've had to return quite of few products in the past.
Pond's Remover Towellete: are those like baby wipes?

Hi GeminiLover75
I used Johnson's baby shampoo before and it hurt my eyes, I was always surprised because they especially recommended it not to hurt babies! Your instincts were right. You can always try cold pressed oil and tell me what you think.
I think I might try Neutrogena. Astralmuse do you know anything about this product? I think that most products like Neutrogena aren't too natural and might damage the skin with frequent use.

Do all you lovely ladies wear makeup every day!

Hi JustAmanda
I tried Mary Kay foundation once. My first reaction when I put it on was it's so gentle, it didn't hurt at all. The color was so beautiful, but the one I tried was for oily skin because the lady only had a sample of that. I never order for dry skin because I was hesitant since the one for oily skin was so drying. But since then I've wanted to buy, but the lady stopped working and now I don't know anybody. Like I said eyemakeup removers have never worked well on me, does it remove all the makeup very well?

please avoid waterproof for everyday use.. revlon makes an eye makeup remover specifically for waterproof.... but don't use them everyday.

use a cotton pad, or cotton wool.. not tissue paper.. it's too rough.
dampen them first. If you were to get a facial, the aesthetician would have you close your eyes, and apply a damp warm cotton pad with product on it, to both of your eyes and leave them there to dissolve the makeup for a moment. fifteen seconds or so, then gently, in a downward motion, sweep the lashes. repeat until makeup is gone..
at home, do one at a time, be gentle. use enough product to cover the middle of the pad. No more, as you don't want product in your eye.

I am a trained aesthetician.

No point anymore to wear makeup. I don't work where I use to and my true love was there. Now at my new job I'm not going to wear makeup anymore.

Well, then, for what it's worth, my favorite eye makeup remover is Almay Dual Phase eye make up remover. It's hypo-allergenic and suitable for contact lens wearers, which I am. Doesn't leave an oily residue at all.

Just in case you meet someone else you want to bat your long eyelashes at.
