Lavendar is mosquitos best natrual repellent (along with Citronella).

I've mixed up a bunch of mosquito and insect repelling spritzes that are safe for human and dogs and they work, you just have to re-apply them often or more often than you would regular sprays.

Taking a multi-B vitamin supplement is supposed to help as well (you will give off a scent that is only detectable and repulisive to mossquitos).

Between the spray I made out of essential oils, the oil burner filled with lavender and citronella I keep on my balcony and the mosquito plant I recently bought (at Lowes), we are having a pest free summer here.

There are many variations/recipes to be found online. Pick up the basics and create your own deet free spray.

Thanks for the info & advice, T!

Stawr... guess those spideys got a little mad at you.. oooo no!

Gemmy.... Vanilla.... hmmm.

I wonder how much our 'blood types' and the uses of these various scents play a variable in the equations?

If someone matches 'blood-type' with a certain scent, it may work?

Could explain how one remedy works for one person and not the other?

That would include an 'irritation factor' too... The more worked up you get, the better you taste?

Or how about our 'Belief' that a remedy is working? There could come a factor in our "aura" atmosphere, that could help make it harder for them to bat their little smidgy-wings and bite? yeah.... They'd have to swim through your toughened turbo resistive ether-powers.... eh?

(Get 'em!!! There IS karmic forgiveness!!!)

Youre welcome mirage!

A quote I heard a long time ago just came to mind..

or a variation of it...

The sun shines on everyone
the rain pours on us all
It does not pick or choose..

same goes for mosquitos and biting.

(I don't think that's how it goes exactly...and I want to say there is more to it, but you get the idea. Will try to dig up the original quote..

do you happen to know it? )

T.... one quote is from Matthew 5:45b nasb

,,,for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
_______

The "Sunshine" does not discriminate... shining on one and not on another as a way of reward and punishment.

The Sun does not "withhold" good. It's purpose is to BE and SHINE. BE Sunshine.

It will shine its Being upon everyone, as 'equals'.

MOSQUITOS.... They get 'equal time' and rights for being under the Sun! They have the right to BE.

(Thanks T!)

*goes to wash the mosquito mashings off her hands*.... out out damn spot!

These are some of the things I've read about those pesky bloodsuckers:

Lemongrass repels mosquitoes. Plant some in areas you like to frequent.

Catnip oil, dab some on. Repels mosquitoes... attracts cats.

Wear light colors. Mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors; black, red, etc.

Oh.. and if you happen to have blood type O like me.. then good luck. You are mosquito's favorite meal.

Sorry if I'm repeating what others have already said.

I knew there was something to do with 'blood-types'.... Hey there Alma Sun, I have your blood-type too.... Yep, the extra-tasty type.

There was something about having an irritated mood does something to change the flavor on your skin, and they like that.

In fact, don't they inject an irritant into us first before sucking out your blooooood?

Bought 2 gorgeous Citronella plants. They say to rub the leaf on you to keep the mosquitoes away. I have been doing it for a day or so and it is working

Didn't do exactly like that since I don't have all those EO's. I used way more peppermint oil than she did, because they HATE peppermint oil!

I had a migraine up north. So I put the peppermint oil on my head. And that was the first time ever in my life I was not bothered or bit by a mosquito.

So if my bug spray does not work, I will know to just add more peppermint oil.

Bats
try putting up a bat house on the southern side of your house
bats are a natural mosquito predator and will substantially reduce your mosquito population

also, if you have standing water try to change it often because it takes only a few days for mosquito larvae to hatch

there are natural herbs and plants to grow which will keep mosquitoes away also. you can wear them against your skin as well. I have a list, i just have to find it and post it here. great suggestions posted above as well.

Bats are awesome because of that! And they are pretty cute with their fuzzy heads.

Geranium oil too!
The smell over powers all my other essential oils!

I made a roller ball with geranium as a xmas present for my grandma. So if she doesn't like it, she will at least have some very fancy looking bug spray.

Cut a 2 liter bottle in half. Put sugar, water, and yeast in a boiler and heat it. Pour it into the bottom of the bottle. Invert the top half and tape it to secure. Set it outside near you. They will fly into the bottle, but they are too stupid to fly back out.
