Hey everyone, sorry for not posting for a while. Well, I recently went to the doctor who said I was close to being pre-diabetic. This caused a great fear in me and motivation to change. I now go to my local gym four days a week, for an hour and a half. Do an hour of yoga and 30 minutes of belly dancing each day. And while I still over eat, it is healthier foods. I also now only drink soda once a week.
How are you doing?
I escaped the diabetes that runs in my family by being VERY careful with my diet. I lost 60 pounds. The first 40 came from giving up gluten (I actually have Celiac, but that was a nice side effect) and the remaining 20 by going vegan.
Yes, vegan. Animal protein ingestion (particularly lactose because it breaks down into glucose and galactose) is also linked to diabetes, not just lack of physical fitness or over indulgence in calories (leading to too much blood glucose).
Anyway, being a gluten free vegan (also non-GMO), I no longer have stage one hypertension or pre-diabetes.
I still drink soda, but I drink herbal tea poured over ice much more often (the fruitier combinations work well for this).
Also, I second the seltzer water recommendation. And of course, the more water you drink, the more normal that becomes and the cravings will die out.
When it comes to your meals, you can take some selected recipes and make them over... it doesn't have to be an "all or nothing" approach.
My personal favorite veganized meal is spinach "alfredo" where the sauce is made from a cashew base, not cream. I have to tell you it is rich and amazing.
Instead of chocolate candy, I found these really awesome pomegranate and vanilla cashews if I am feeling like "junk food" and they have a chocolate-like aroma to trick you. It works for me anyway.
Anyway, if you want more ideas, I am full of them!
