Oh, that's gorgeous, Ellyn~~ every bit of it! ((hug!)) Hi Violet!... (hug for you too) Randall... Your grandma knitted quilts? or maybe were they crocheted afgans? Either way.... The thought is so warm, soft, and sooo cozy! My Scorpio Grandmother did "tatting" (tightly-crocheted laces, make tablecloths from it) along with sewing quilts for each family member, and for special occasions/events. My Libra Grandmother used to knit the boot socks, and mittens for us. Those women (of early 1900s) knew the special crafts involved with homemaking arts.... I guess it was something passed on among relatives. IP: Logged |

Might have been crochet. Small and colorful, but not very soft. IP: Logged |

If you look above, you will see the two quilts that reside in my glass-front Quilt Keeper. As long as I remember, those Ripple-Style ones took up residence on the back of my Grandmothers' couches. So when she passed away, that is what I asked for, to remember her by. The Lap Quilt I made for her, out of material that had come from HER mother (the one who owned the Sewing Machine.) She kept this one on the back of her chair at all times. That; too, I asked for. IP: Logged |

Super cool, Ellynlvx! I enjoy the fiber arts, too. I even sheared alpacas for a couple-few seasons at a fiber mill. And trimmed their teeth and toes! (Alpaca glittens in the wintertime are the best!) Almost every spring I take my kids to the local Shepherd's Harvest Festival at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Lake Elmo, Minnesota. When it comes to the fiber arts, I really suck at crocheting and knitting, but I can afghan alright. Don't want to toot my own horn, but I'm pretty frickin' awesome when it comes to cross-stitch and embroidery (sewing-by-hand). I've cross-stitched some pieces that resemble an oil painting more than a cross-stich. I threw Aida cloth out the window when I was in elementary school. I love even-weave or Irish linen. I also like weaving with looms. Got my foot on a Loom, even as we speak!Yeah, you have to blend the Alpaca with something with a bit of stretch to it, or it just tends to flop. Sooooooo Soft, though! I have some Cashmere I work on from time to time, it's so high I want to get the full enjoyment from it! I once made a quilt in the Amish style, with a bit of pictoglyph applique' I love to Master styles, and make them my own. In that case, I molded the quilt to the person I made it for. IP: Logged |

No, it's more like a convenient footrest, ha.Looms use both hand and foot power. This is a basic floor loom, mine is at once more rustic and yet a bit more ornate; having an old saw blade for a ratchet, yet the Castle is deep and edged by brass cornerplates, as well as wooden etched carvings to finish it. Spinning Wheels work mostly by foot. This is my Spinning Wheel. There is not a plastic abomination to be seen on this Beauty. To be perfectly honest, I don't know how I happened upon both of these so quickly in my search. Even today, as I peruse the net for an image, I can find none to compare with the ones I have found. They are both perfectly suited to me in an Aesthetic as well as a practical sense. IP: Logged |

Oh! I hadn't realized our thread was still going! Sometimes I forget to peep in here on this forum and get stuck on the astrology forums, haha. Well, we're heading to Andromeda together, so no worries, right? So far, everything has been nice around here (*knocks on wood*), hoping it will continue that way... If you want to add any interpretations about my husband and I and our karmic synastry, I would love to hear your thoughts...we both have Yods, as you may have noticed, and my Vertex conjuncts the apex of his Yod, and his Ceres conjuncts the apex of mine... I would almost be afraid to ask for a reading for my son, his chart is so complicated and "karmic-looking". Maybe we can all just go live with the fairies... I LOVE the pictures that you posted. They are beautiful, the blankets. And that much more so because they were your grandma's. IP: Logged |

Hahaha...not quite, but our backyard is quite a sanctuary. But it's a bit cold out for that right now... Springtime...aaaahhhhhhhh... THIS is where the fairies and Earth spirits live in our "yard". I like to leave it undisturbed for them IP: Logged |

I like that it's pretty much always green here, but it's still chilly outside. I would like to visit a place where it's green AND warm in my dreams. Please and Thank You, Universe. IP: Logged |
