I saw you post somewhere that you spin wool? Do you mind if I ask how/where you learned how to do that? Do you have sheep?I'm so curious! (I suppose I could have simply looked it up online, which I will probably do shortly, but what an amazing thing to know how to do!) IP: Logged |

Oh, Violets; it is the Ultimate in Meditation!(Even better than the bathtub method, of which we are both so fond...) I used to pretend that my Spinning Wheel was cruising the galaxies in search of happier places to be! Want to go for a ride? IP: Logged |

It's Fun!No, I don't raise sheep; had a llama and an Angora Goat (Mohair) but soon realized that I just wasn't cut out to be a rancher. Not unlike the bee method... You can buy fibre, and it can be had for ten dollars a pound. Not dirty and unkempt, and in need of hundreds of dollars worth of equipment, time, effort and frustration to prepare for use. Not to mention the commitment factor and the feeding bills... Spinning Wheels can be pricy, but I have NEVER regretted the investment. A swift and a ball-winder are handy, but not necessary: http://www.woolery.com/Store/pc/Swifts-Skeinweinders-c194.htm Now, getting the right Spinning Wheel is important. I have seen some that wear out the foot! Mine is a Kromski Polonaise, and it was love at first sight. Funny, I drove by an Alpaca this morning and wondered if they had any fibre for sale. Synchronicities... IP: Logged |

WOW...that sounds like a lot to learn about! I might have to keep it in mind for future reference, haha. Maybe I'll just stick with bees for now. I wish I knew how to knit, though. IP: Logged |

I'm sure they have classes around here! I don't know anyone who knows how to knit, hahaha. That seems ridiculous for some reason. My step-daughter knows how to, but we live in different states. IP: Logged |

Well, if you have ever crocheted, that's kind of how you start. Then you put the needle through one stitch, wrap the thread around it and pull it through. Basically. When I was a teen, I took it in Home Ec, and was bored to tears. Then when I started Spinning, I looked to the Aran Sweaters, with their Celtic Knotwork designs, and decided THAT was what I would do with my wool. So I did. That is NOT a good meditation, because it is a complete need to focus on the pattern and count the stitches and read the design. Now, that was difficult. Just a basic sock recipe is mindless; like Spinning, so you can just do it and put your mind on whatever matters. They all have pros and cons, you know. Like anything in life, eh? IP: Logged |

Ahhh, that does sound so relaxing and enjoyable (unlike doing the dishes, hahaha).I get a lot of that type of feeling when I'm out in the yard taking care of the garden (it requires digging up a lot of big rocks with a pickaxe). It's also super meditative in its own odd way... Unfortunately, I think we have to leave our happy little mountain home and move to an apartment in Arizona (far from where we are now). If it's possible to feel apprehension, sadness, and excitement at the same time, that's how I feel. Transiting Uranus square Pluto and Saturn for me, and T Uranus opposite my husband's natal Uranus. So I guess that's how it goes. Less stressful job offer (as opposed to the soul sucking job he's been at in order to afford our home here), and there it is. No beekeeping or knitting for me for the next couple of years... At least I can take my aloe vera plant with me, though. She'll be so happy there! Sorry to get sidetracked, but I'm kind of blown away by Uranus's sudden way of forcing a change in direction right now, and I don't want to talk about it in the other threads. Heh. I'm glad you ladies are here. IP: Logged |

Oh Sweetheart, whoa!Uranus has His Way with me, too; don't feel alone in this... (Probably the only thing that keeps me from my Inner Sanctum Shell; if Truth be told, but I just hate it!) IP: Logged |

Thanks. Yin, sorry if this doesn't fit here. Not sure where else it would fit, though. I kind of lump making things from natural materials in with health and healing, as it tends to be the opposite of buying things with a bunch of chemicals and dyes, etc. I'll leave that up to you guys to figure out. /e BECAUSE this topic was posted under Health and Healing, I thought the general SHAPE would be edging towards there..... Thank you for your modi-dilligence... Want to add: .... Yin, I noticed you had done some sort of INDEXING of topics in Health & Healing a while ago, and I highly recommended that particular post as a template for something someone was trying to set up in the asteroid forums.... (Good work!) Happy Holidays to everyone.... IP: Logged |

Hey, Mirage, my post was not here to shock you, sorry you felt that way. If Randall doesn't want to move the thread, then it can stay. Knitting and spinning can be considered a meditation but so can cooking, only we already have a forum for that. We used to post arts and crafts topics in the Yellow Wax forum. Topics that are not covered in any other forum description generally go to LL Central. There is no need for drama. As you can already tell, I'm mostly a hands-off mod, unless absolutely necessary. Take care. IP: Logged |

Thanks Yin. Hi, Mirage. So, for Yin and Randall if he happens to look in here, I do have some clarification in mind. I absolutely associate making things with natural ingredients by hand (like candles, with aromatherapy, or salves and ointments, or homemade toothpaste without fluoride, etc) with health and healing. I would consider removing the toxic chemicals from our immediate environment (our clothes, soaps, etc) first and foremost on my priority list as far as my own health and healing. Ditto for organic gardening, but I think there might be a gardening forum here, I'm not sure? It seems more about the environment, so the forums can get kind of jumbled sometimes, I think. (No offense intended there.) So having explained it that way, I would like to have more clarification about those topics. Thanks all. IP: Logged |

Oh, and thank you for the support in other things. It turns out that we're not moving just yet after all, although I would like a change of pace for us eventually, in some fashion. But I can probably still work in my garden this coming season, at least. I was actually kind of disappointed to hear that we wouldn't be moving, but relieved at the same time. IP: Logged |

I've been thinking about it a lot. My son just quit his job in carpentry because it just killed him to strap those nail-bags on every morning... He had been doing that since before he left High School. When his Saturn Return came, I supported his Vocational Redirection whole-heartedly, even though it might not be in my own best interest as a mother. If you truly love someone, sometimes you make sacrifices. I was hoping it was at least near Sedona. IP: Logged |

Ha, it was near Sedona, which would have been nice in that sort of way. I guess we just barely missed the bus for that particular job, which kind of leaves us in the same predicament we were in. We want out of our current indentured servitude, but we just don't know how to make that happen. I have a suspicion Uranus and Pluto will help, but...how they will "help" is yet to be determined. You sound like such a loving mother, Ellynlvx. IP: Logged |
