I lived in the South for a long time.Grits were served as a normal part of breakfast. I didn't like them very much, then.I thought they were tasteless. I had them without butter. They need something on them to make them delicious like butter or cheese. I had them ,recently, with butter, at a restaurant. They were delicious ------------------ Jesus never put his trust in man cuz he knew what was in man. He who controls his Spirit is greater than he who controls a city Proverbs IP: Logged |

As near as I've been able to find out, Grits seem to be some kind of Southern Love Food. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUX8yzMmjok IP: Logged |

I've seen people mix mayonnaise and ketchup together.. to dip their fries in. It's odd looking because they don't look like they wanna blend lol. As for me.. I like putting a pinch of salt in my sprite.
I can't think of anything else atm. ------------------ "The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four people is suffering from a mental illness. Look at your 3 best friends. If they're ok, then it's you." — Rita Mae Brown IP: Logged |

Yeah, the mayo/ketchup thing is yummy. It's sort of like 1,000 Island dressing.IP: Logged |

Fiddleheads are so delicious.I used to get fiddlehead pickles. There is something decadent about fiddle heads like asparagus or artichoke hearts lol------------------ Jesus never put his trust in man cuz he knew what was in man. When I was a kid in the ozarks, after the bull cows on our ranch were castrated, we ate mountain oysters (I don't recall having them). The only other exotic thing which is really a black culture thing is my dad's wife had to making chitterlings (pronounced chit'lins) for all the holidays. It smelled horrid. Pig intestines!! I think it would be cool to live in the orient where people eat chicken feet. I also watched a show on strange cuisine in korea, people were eating anuses. Very bizarre. I like cultures that don't waste their foods although I would never eat it. I used to have pet rats too! One called minero would run around my house and scare my cats IP: Logged |

French fries are great dipped in ranch dressing as well. Not very exotic, but still good! IP: Logged |

Puerto Ricans call the sauce they dip their plantain fritters, or "Tostones" into Mayoketchup. It's made from mayonaise, ketchup, fresh lemon juice, and minced garlic...it's too die for!! I highly recommend it for dipping fries into as well IP: Logged |

We don't have strange foods where I come from....just fine, or gourmet dining. A bit stuck up, up there. There are some foods I enjoy here....but only 'cause i've lived other places and had the opportunity to taste them all. I like the "hillbillyness" of the south. More relaxed, less snobby & uptight. These aren't exactly "strange", but they're part of North Dakota's heritage: knoephla soup, krumkake, lutefisk, and lefse. There are others, but these are the only ones I've tried.IP: Logged |
