These two are a no - no:

Green bean with lemon and garlic
Green bean casserole

Is there a way to get rid of the "grassy" taste?

Which ones? Here we have several. Can i tell u an Indian recipe?

I will type it anyways. Nowadays i find it difficult to trace threads here.

Any beans (250 gms)- just wash them and chop them into small pieces. Take a tablespoon of oil. After its heated put mustard seeds and let them splutter then add asafoetida powder and turmeric powder and put the cut beans quickly or the asafoetida and turmeric can get burnt. Stir, add little water (1 tb spn approx). Cut a few reasonably thin pieces of peeled potato and add to it. Add salt, chilly powder and cook on steam. (i.e. put a lid with water on it) Stir intermittently so that it doesn't burn and add little water intermittently if you feel that it might burn. After its almost done add little grated coconut, if you have it. Stir. While serving squeeze little lemon if you like and eat with chapatis (wheat pancakes). No grassy taste there at all.

Thank you Love&Light.

It's specifically for green beans or string beans as some call it. Haven't had much Indian bean dishes and will try it.

Randall, billies don't taste because they just gulp!

Sure, boil them for say 10 minutes, then "shock" them in an ice bath.

Gets rid of the nastiness, and the beans are still crisp.

You can also grill them.

This means that when you chew them, the grassy taste will be gone, yes?

Yep, it chases away the stringy taste the one thing is a lot of people don't realize that they have a veggie string on them that also has to be pulled out..that tends to make them very tough

This is an old classic here in the US:

Green beans with slivered almonds
(you can substitute the garlic with some fresh Thyme and white wine)

a mix of these two should do:

http://www.food.com/recipe/garlic-almond-green-beans-186897

YUM!

Other thing you can do if you have a metal collander is boil water in a pot large enough to fit the collander on top of and steam them.
