Hello All! I was just thinking of some beliefs and superstitions that we have in our own places. Today i saw pigeons mating and wondered what could that mean as in our place if we happen to see snakes mating specially cobras its considered VERY lucky. What about pigeons i wondered. Any takes on this? Or any other beliefs that you all may have that are prevalent on your side of the globe?

Hmm.. well I was told by some family members that getting pooped on by birds is lucky (no, I'm not kiddin'). It's like a omen or something meaning you'll get a windfall of money. >.> I never believed in that ish and certainly don't wanna find out lol.

Another thing is eye twitches. I think it's originated from Asia where they said if your left eye twitches, it's a omen of luck, and the right, bad luck. Some say it's the opposite; left for bad, right for good.

the bird thing is prevelant throughout Italy as well - is said to bring good luck ... also, if your palm is itchy it signifies money coming to you - you must close your hand tightly to receive, if you scratch the money will disappear...
opening an umbrella in the house brings bad luck... oh, and my personal favorite - crossing your fork and knife on an empty plate is very bad luck - used to drive my grandmother batty when i would do this...

Anyone have any experience and can vouch for the luck that bird poop brings?

Me, me!! (Puts hand up). When i was in college a couple of times i got bird poop on me as we had lot of big trees in our compound and as we used to stand there chatting, waiting for the next lecture we used to be sitting ducks for such attacks. And all these days something lucky happened to me. Now i dont know whether its bird poop or my Jup conj moon responsible for this. You decide.

Hey i remembered one more striking belief. There is this Indian maina. No idea what its called in English. It is medium in size as compared to a crow and sparrow. Its brown with yellow beak and a yellow circle around its eyes. So what they say is if one sees it alone by itself then the person will experience a rift between him/her-self and his/her partner/lover. And that he/she will be the one responsible for the rift. The duration is not specific though. The bird is known for moving in pairs. Even if they are picking food they will be somewhere in eachother's vicinity. Never very far off. And keep calling to eachother.

This i have personally experienced several times. And holds true as far as my experience goes.

When my mom got married to my dad during the ceremony the priest took a spider off her head.

And later someone told her that is lucky.

I also herd if something goes wrong during the honeymoon that is also lucky.
(My mom told me that my dad stepped in glass at the hotel they stayed in)

Well they are together to this day...with no big problems really.

And then my cousin's wedding it rained during the day...and then my mom said that she herd that is lucky.

then I started to wonder...do people just say that about everything so the bride doesn't flip the f()ck out?!
lmao

"I stepped in dog poop!"
"that is lucky!"
"ooo!"

If you don't kill the spider, it's lucky. I had a ladybug hitch a ride on my shirt last week.

LOL that was very funny! The poop thing. We can start a new belief. Actually here too we consider raining during a wedding or just before it like while reaching the marraige hall etc to be lucky. And also something going wrong just before or during a function is considered to be taking away negative vibes and making the future good.

So, last week I was in my kitchen.
It's really small, it's like a kitchen, dining room, laundry room combo.

And this cricket started chirping his cricket-y butt off.
I mean, it was LOUD.

So, I ran to my trusty laptop to look up crickets and found out somethings.

If the cricket chirps and then stops.. it's a sign of a death to come.
If the cricket chirps with no discernable breaks (a consistant chirp) it means new money coming into the household.

and of course, if you kill a cricket, it's bad luck, but who would do that.

Anyway, so I observed this cricket for days.
He was chirping the money chirp!
Then, he walked out into the middle of my kitchen and just stood there.
I was at the table and I watched him for the longest...
(I thought crickets were green for some reason, but no, they are brownish-black)
and then he went away for good.

Next day my husband's uncle passed,
The day after that, my husband's best friend passed
and the third day I got a check from my dad.

Life is totally weird, isn't it?

crickets the Chinese build little houses for them and hand them up because they bring good luck... or so I`ve heard.

Finding a penny heads up is good luck.

that's crazy about the crickets!
My cat for a while would bring HUGE crickets in the house. He loved to swat at them, chase them, and watch them.

And a while later my mom put the cricket outside.

and no the crickets did not chirp.

I hate insects.

I saw a cricket in my backyard today. HUGE one. Tried to shoo it away but it wouldn't budge. It didn't make no chirping noise either. No luck for me, he probably knew I didn't like his kind.

I hate insects too.
Well, most of them. Especially freakin mosquitos, gnats, flies and the other biting/annoying kind.

About the crickets..
The Uncle was dying any way,
I didn't mean for it to sound like a surprise or anything, he had brain cancer, but
he wasn't expected to go that day, or even that week, they said two months.

And the best friend had bladder cancer.
He had just finished another round of radiation and chemo, so we kinda thought he'd be around for awhile but he just slipped into a coma and never woke up.

Last night I thought I heard the cricket again,
but I couldn't tell if it was in my kitchen or outside.
I'm hoping it was outside.

I can hear them when I tell a joke, though! See...like just now. But seriously, it's wild how they all chirp at exactly the same time at night.
