Yesterday one of my favorite professors passed away, he was a great man, an incredible scholar, a writer, a poet and much much moreHere is his Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sami_Makarem i took a class on Sufi Literature with him only 2 years ago, it was one of the most inspirational classes i have ever taken. Even for a very abstract spiritual subject he could realy reach out to us and our skeptical minds. He would say that to truly understand the literature one cannot think with logic instead he/she should think with his/her self (spirit). i will never forget how he explained to us the metaphor of God being the sun and us being his rays of light, we are nonexistent without Him and without us He is not the sun.. I ran into him a year ago on campus, to my surprise he remembered me and asked if i would like to sit in on one of his lectures. i told him i would consider it but then i decided i was too busy.. what a waste i could've learned so much.. regrets..regrets..regrets..

You were Blessed to have had him for your professors. Don`t regret, be thankful ------------------ We dance around the ring and suppose, but the secret sits in the middle and Knows Robert Frost IP: Logged |

indeed Juni, when i was giving my condolences to his family and was asked how i knew him, saying i was his student and seeing their faces change was amazing. his daughters hugged me and i was so touched. i was told 100s of his students attended, he has been a teacher for over 40 years!i guess its kind of a relief knowing that he's never gone. great people come back and walk around us not knowimg the virtue of their existence.

May he rest in piece. On second thoughts, it could be that being into Sufi he was already living in piece and distributing dollops of it to those around. ((((Venus)))))IP: Logged |
