Ah. I usually take it on the day and then the symptoms lasts for at least 6 hours. Thanks. Will try that! A friend once suggested taking the Omegas regularly too but it didn't make much of a difference. Wish they could treat the cause for a permanent cure instead of stuffing our bodies with drugs to alleviate the pain. Argh.

short version:

quote:
If you’re lucky, you don’t get cramps at all, or you only experience slight discomfort. But if you’re like the estimated 15% of women who suffer from severe cramps, your pain can be debilitating. If that’s the case, you ought to consult with your doctor to make sure your pain isn’t related to something more serious, like endometriosis.
If your pain is less severe, but still sets your teeth on edge and makes you cranky, here are some tried-and-true ways to avoid cramping.

1. TRY ADVIL. (same as ibuprofen)

Start taking an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drug (I prefer Ibuprofen, like Advil) regularly three or four days before your period is ready to start. Ibuprofen lowers your body’s production of prostaglandins, which scientists believe contribute to menstrual cramps. But if you wait until you actually have cramps to take the Ibuprofen, it won’t be nearly as effective, so make sure to take it in the recommended dosage BEFORE your period starts.

Yeah, Omegas are great for so many things, especially depression. And I agree, I wish I didnt have to take so much ibuprofen every month. They say if it make your fingers, toes or face swell, you might be taking to much or having an allergic reaction and damaging your liver. I get those symptoms, but can't not take it because my cramps are debilitating. I don't like to take pills at all, but have to take them, or I would be bedridden for a week, or maybe even die....that's how bad it gets. And I"m not a wimp. Kind of scary. Best bet is to start taking a low dose a few days before period arrives. That's all they've got for us at this point. And people who have never been through the most severe symptoms, I don't think believe us....how painful and debilitating it can be.

All my threads get moved here.....lol

It's a blurry line......between LLC2 and here...

I'm still trying to figure it out.

As an old school member, I still post random and fun thread in LLC2.....or here. & they get the ol' switcheroo.

They probably could fit in both places at the same time. That's how awesome they are. But thanks for putting the thread in it's place, LEXX.

(please tell me most people here know i'm being silly)

There is a fine line with LLC2 and here.
Don't take offence, Lexx. We know you're doing your mod duties..unlike me.
(That's a joke!)

Anyhow, sometimes I want to kick people ( yeah yeah violence is bad but this is a figure of speech) who sneer and say "oh it's just cramps, get over it"
It P's me off! ) You will never know unless you experience it or actually witness someone who has to endure it and it does feel as if you're dying! You're entire body is in pain and just feels a mess.

My pains started at 14, prior to that my periods were basically cramp free.

I hear you there. And no, no one else (especially men) really get it. My ex would try to rub my back and it felt like razors going down my back and I told him to please stop and just go away. He didnt get it. Your whole body is in pain and anyone trying to soothe it does not help and can make it worse.

Rubbing is the last thing you want. Any physical contact for that matter.
Shame, in a way it probably makes them feel helpless when the best thing they can do at the time is to just leave you be.

Yep. As nice as it is for them to try and sympathize and soothe, sometimes we really just want you to walk away and let us go through it on our own.........every single effing month!

lol

I'm sure if they had to go thru it, they'd appreciate the same. I've always wished they could all experience one week of it in their lifetime.
