and I mentioned to him that I hope he had a good sprinkler system and that the place never caught on fire. LOL It would be toast in a matter of minutes.IP: Logged |

PS. I just had to get back up and post about something I have done. I love that old book/vintage books shoppe scent very much! One must be very careful, (the book can get very hot fast) but take an old worthless but really strongly scented old tome; place it in your microwave a minute or so (or oven on low) and when the scent "blooms" just place it in a bowl or vase until it cools off. If need be, dampen it a bit before baking/nuking; it can help intensify the scent. Weird yeah, but I love the scent! OK.....must go for now. LOL Cannot stop thinking of all the thousands of books I have read to date. IP: Logged |

It's almost better than coffee. Combine the two and you are in heaven! (unless you are a tea drinker, of course, then substitue with that) Add in an old comfy chair and you have it made. For the day at least. Unfortunately bookstores are kind of becoming a thing of the past. Especially the old ones like the one i described. I can't imagine growing up without having at least a few to go to. The times are a changin'. IP: Logged |

I had money to blow at the time and ended up buying a ton of books from him. We became best buds for the day. I told him what kind of books I was interested in and he helped me dig the best ones up. He gave me a handcarved, fold-out wooden bookholder that looked like it came from India or somewhere Eastern as a gift. Dummy me ended up selling it at my yard sale. I'm wishing I held onto it now. It did not serve much of a purpose for me though and that's why I decided to get rid of it. WIsh I still lived closer to that bookstore. Tbh, im not sure how he was staying in business as he said he did not do Ebay or any kind of internet sales. I suggested he look into it as it might help him out. He'd probably have to hire at least ten people to sort through all the books first though and catalog and list them......would be a HUGE job to do. k. enough about that. off topic. ....sort of... lol IP: Logged |

Two books at my bedside. East of Eden and Master and Margarita. My "bibles".Used to read Hugo, Dickens and Dumas as a child. Les Mis is oddly comforting to me now. IP: Logged |

...have to laugh that I was thinking about sprinkler systems and suggesting he set up an Ebay or some sort of online bookstore....LOLTotal triple earth sign thing to do. I never did ask the old man's Sun Sign, which is odd for me. We were too caught up in searching for books, I guess. The thought of trying to list them all online seemed extemely daunting and I imagine something that might take at least a year. I did find a vintage Linda book too and had to pick it up (Sun Signs hardcover). For $6, and a 60's looking cover I couldnt pass it up. IP: Logged |

I know. LOL Only one of them seemed to have mold on it. I kept it in an airtight bag for awhile and sprayed it lightly with vinegar and it seems to be okay now - killed the mold off. One of the ones I picked up is actually so rare it's valued at $125+ "Birds and Blossoms and what the poets sing of them" copyright 1887 Frederick A. Stokes Illustrated by Fidelia Bridges It's a beautiful book. And the lithograph illustrations are what makes it so pricey and rare (?) It's a keeper. & I like how it keeps it's scent too. As our resident librarian, i'm sure you would have loved this place too, although in another way it mightve driven you crazy. I found it while living up north on the seacoast. IP: Logged |

Flirting? No. Affectionate and silly, yes. It was originally posted 3 years ago as a thank you thread. It's going no where. Lexx, yet again I learnt something from you. I always assumed all book threads belong in PP. It's up to our discretion. ------------------ quote: Remember, love can conquer the influences of the planets....It can even eliminate karma.

For The Pilgrim's Progress was actually taken verbatim from Linda's books and is a section where she recommends various New Age works. LEXX is correct. LLC2 is actually the best place for a string like this (along with movies and tv shows), since this is mainly the undefined Forum, but it can stay here. Many have a book shelf above their fireplace, so it is a good fit from a more literal view.IP: Logged |

Thank you Randall. However I thought I said here at Hearth And Home was the right place for this thread. I agree though that LLC2 would also work.

I thought of Hearth and Home for my movie thread, because I picture a living room, or a large room with a large dining table that people sit around, in front of a fire - and talk, read, watch movies, etc. IP: Logged |
